It's so nice to see a Star Wars classic like this getting a full remaster! I'm super stoked - what about you? What other Star Wars games do you think deserve a remaster? Come follow me on Twitter to keep up with everything KOTOR! - twitter.com/100PerStarWars
The PS2/Wii/PSP version of The Force Unleashed, the Rogue Squadron trilogy (particularly the N64 version of I and good old Rogue Leader), the Revenge of the Sith video game adaptation, Bounty Hunter, you name it.
Would love to see a remastered Jedi Academy. Watched my brother play Dark Forces but I think I would have fun playing the Remastered version and the remaster of Phantom Menace.
There is no better studio to remaster a classic FPS than NightDive. I was excited when I saw the title of this video, now I'm REALLY hyped. The Quake 2 remaster released a few weeks ago was fantastic, and I'm really looking forward to Dark Forces remastered.
Nightdive is an incredible studio as a passionate gamer since the 90s and working in the industry since 10 years ago, I can tell you that they do so much good stuff with all these old games remaster, far above Aspyr ports. For Dark Forces they for sure redone some assets, specially for the cutscene because they redid them for Quake 2 port that they just released, they also redid some 3D models in Quake 2, added lightning and other QoL features all is even optional. Basically, they have an engine called Kex where they can import an old game and rework the entire game to add modern features, settings and stuff. Can’t be more happy that Nighdive is now taking care of Star Wars. If they do next Jedi knight 2, mysteries of the sith + the Rogue Squadron games or Shadow of the empire, battle for naboo I mean the list is long and that would be incredible! ❤
I will 100000% buy this! I LOVED Dark Forces, and to be able to play it without modding it will be awesome! Yeah, a Remake would have also been cool. But I think there is too much competition for that Genre to be really worth trying to do a full remake for.
Don't waste your dolans on this cash grab. Find a modded upscaled version done by real fans and run it on a high end system. As long as Disney owns the series, nothing good with come about.
Nightdive is a killer studio!! they've also done a remaster of DOOM 64 as well as a reverse engineered remaster of the game BLOOD from 1997 and have stayed extremely faithful to the source material while adding many QoL improvements to the games!
@@ohnothimagen224 it’d be nice if they could reintegrate the Rosh companion missions though. Those had to be removed from the final game but it would’ve meant so much more to his storyline if we actually gave a shit about him.
I loved Kyle Katarn's character in Dark Forces so hopefully if they are successful they will remake the Jedi knight games as well it would only be right to keep the whole series intact. By the way a pod racing game with VR would be a dream come true or even a remaster of Star wars Galaxies MMO complete with reactivated servers as well as brand new servers.
Outcast and Academy were like my childhood! Academy (which I played first until I found out about Outcast) is to this day my fav videogame thus far. When I found out they have it on switch, I immediately downloaded it and all of the nostalgia hit me hard!
Kyle Katarn was always my favorite Jedi. Knowing Disney said he was not cannon really upset me back in the day. Now I have more hope for this character.
Every Star Wars game is welcome to be remastered. I just want to say that my priority one is Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith videogame based on the movie. I hope we can get that one soon!
If they do remaster Jedi Academy, I'd love if instead of just picking from a handful of saber colors, you have a full RGB slider to fully customize exactly what color your blade is.
@@Kolonol1 Yeah. We've seen canonically that there can be slight variations in a blade's color - Ahsoka's second green saber was a more lime green, for example - so the ability to optimize your saber color to any degree you desire would be awesome.
... I'm glad I saved my walk through and strategies guide of Dark Forces (original from 94 combo from Costco). I'm not kidding! When rescuing Madeen, you have to set 2 elevators at certain floors in order to sneak into a sewer and bypass the main door. Oh, and then there's the door puzzle in the Imperial City. Yeah, so glad I saved it
Love all games with exception of Podracer games. Maybe adding Jedi Outcast two concepts would be great with its story, also a bit more challenging enemies.
Dark forces is one of my favorite games ever.I am so stoked to play a remaster of it.I remember my dad beating it on PC years ago.I love it mainly for the soundtrack.
Oh hell yeah! I loved Dark Forces back in the day and on Steam nowadays so I am really happy to see this and hopefully the entire series getting some well deserved love. And I would love for it to be a success with the community so that, perhaps like you said, games like Shadows of the Empire or Rogue Squadron might get a remaster as well.
There is a new game trend called Boomer Shooters in the gaming scene which are doing gangbusters in terms of sales. The idea is to go back to old school FPS aesthetics and go back to old school shooter mechanics from the early to mid 90's. Disney/Star Wars probably see a chance to really profit off of that older catalogue and actually do quite well because Gen Z-ers love older mechanics like this. A really good example of a new game but with a mid 90's aesthetic would be Warhammer 40k: Boltgun. Brand new game, looks like it was made in 1996.
a better example IMO would be DUSK which plays extremely similar to (also better than, IMO) and looks like the original quake games but came out IN 2018
I used to love playing Lucas Arts Star Wars games back in the 90s. Lucas Arts would release a title every year and all of them were great. Just my opinion linear games were much better than the multiplayer online Battlefront type games.. Jedi : Fallen Order & Survivor brought back that linear and progression play experience
@100StarWars omg mans behind on the terminology😂 boomer shooters are basically fps's designed to look and play like doom and quake! A recent really good example is the new warhammer boltgun game! Came out a few months ago, but it looks like it's straight out of the 90's!😉😉😉
I really wish Nightdive add xBRZ texture upscaling on-the-fly to their Kex engine. It really helps with pixelated footage without making textures blurred out like filtering.
Rogue Squadron. Never played dark forces as a kid. Just finished doom & doom 2 so definitely looking great and will be purchasing this when it comes out.8
I'm happy for this, I wanted to check out these games because I want to know the story! I don1t mind old games, I still play some pixely point-click-adventures and would replay Republic Commando any day too.
awesome news, remaster or a remake of jedi academy would be lovely, especially if they kept the cheats. I love playing with 200 force power that regenerates 4 times faster than regular by switching the player model to one of tavion's mooks and then back to player model
I have never played Dark Forces before. However I played all X-Wing and Tie Fighter series(PC), The Force Unleashed 1 and 2 on Xbox 360, Battlefront 1and 2(Xbox 360 and Xbox One), Red Squadron and now Jedi Outcast on the Xbox One. I'm looking forward to play this when and if it comes to Xbox One.
Never played Dark Forces, but it looks like Wolfenstein and Doom in the SW galaxy. And if I'm not mistaken, the Legends rendition of Rogue One since the Death Star plans are in the game, too?
It's more than Wolfenstein 3D/The Ultimate Doom-Doom 64 though, since you can have mouselook and can jump, for one. One part of Operation Skyhook, to be blunt. Other ops can be shown in the likes of the X-Wing, Battlefront II 2005, and Empire at War video games, the Han Solo trilogy of novels by A.C. Crispin, the Star Wars Episode IV radio drama, and so on.
I've been playing through Dr. Beef's port of Jedi Knight II on the Quest 2 (and I believe it's coming to PCVR as well), it's an amazing experience in VR. I'm happy they're keeping the original Dark Forces in its original style, but after playing through JK II in VR, I would love to see each of the Jedi Knight games come to the Quest or PCVR library in some fashion. The same team that ported Jedi Knight II is apparently working on porting Jedi Academy as well. I hope the same kind of port can happen for Dark Forces II JK at some point as well. Will definitely pick up this remaster as well.
I also would like the Rogue Squadron Trilogy to be remastered and released with both offline and online player matches. Also the entire Jedi Knight series! Currently playing through original KOTOR on Xbox (Really hoping to get a proper remake/remaster of both k1 and K2)
I'm popping off so hard right now! There are only 3 Star Wars games I wanted to get Switch ports, technically 4, but I don't see the last one happening, the three are: 1) Star Wars the Force Unleashed 2) Star Wars Dark Forces 3) Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2005) The last one that I don't see happening is: Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga Skywaker Saga Imo sucks, worst lego game of the series. But beyond that Dark Forces was my first shooter game. Can't wait to play Dark Forces on my Switch with my Dad. Finally a game we can sit down and have fun together. I still have the OG Guide Book.
Only people who wouldn't like this game, is the younger generation who were not there during the 90's. Thus, they've all become spoiled rotten brats with top notch visuals, and a game like this will not meet their top of the line demands.
Dark Forces is still the best SW game for me. So amazing! Studios should take notes in terms of level design from this game. I still have the original CD of this game.
I can't believe this is real. It's about damn time. This trailer is ultimate cheese and perfect! 😅 Please Please Please have the original cut- scenes as an option. Great job on the new ones but the originals are classic and beautiful.
Man I would love a shadows the empire Remaster. I played so much of that when I was younger. That title theme on the N64 was fire so sad to see that track cut on the PC version.
Jedi Outcast is my favourite in the series. It has one of the best campaigns of any game. Not even sure if it needs a remaster, it's already close to perfect.
YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS LETS GOOOOOO i'm buying for the hope of a DF2 remake
I was so excited when fans were remaking Dark Forces for Jedi Academy but they only did the first 6 levels then stopped. I gave up hope on getting the rest of the levels 15 years ago. It looks like I'm going to get them at last.
When I first got my steam deck this was one of the first games I tried to play on it and it didn't play so well, I knew it was a good game just needed to find a good way to play it and I tried to see if it had something similar too doom like GZ but surprisingly I never game across the force engine , when they announced this though I got really happy I'll definitely be buying it on all platforms at some point because it'll probably be cheap like the doom and quake games
Recently replayed this game. It could definitely benefit from a remastered version. Not remake, remastered I will support. Very difficult for a modern player to play such an old gem
I'll definitely buy it. And yeah, I'm glad it's a remaster & not a RTX Remake or UE4/UE5 modern glamour show. Though the latter would be nice to see, RTX is overrated. Not looking forward to HL2 RTX one bit. They went for ultra realism & lost the game's soul in the process. But yeah, I love Dark Forces. It's one of my top favorite Star Wars games, alongside Shadows of the Empire for N64. Hope Nightdive gets around to remastering that one too.
I would like to see a remaster of Star Wars episode 1 the phantom menace n hopefully we don’t have to wait long for dark forces remastered to come out along with all the dlc for it
How likely do you think it is that this remaster will also have updated controls? Because I played jedi outcast that was released on PSN and it's unplayable with a controller. It seems to still have the old wooden aiming.. Games like CoD use a very polished aim assist that makes it feel really natural and intuitive.. Jedi Outcast is so old that it doesn't have up to date analog support. If this Dark Forces remaster has updated controls it would be perfect to have it in such a classic style. I played the original on PC which I'm sure will play fine for the remaster as well.
AI is going to make remastering and remaking old games, as well as porting and localizing way faster and likely better. It's one of the only aspects of AI tech that I'm excited for, and not terrified by. I replayed the entire DF series recently, so this isn't too exciting for me. I'd have preferred a remake of the entire series. An Unreal 5 DF series remake would be amazing AF.

It will never happen, but SEGA's Star Wars Trilogy Arcade is my dream port. One of my favorite games as a kid.
jedi knight series
Yeah a remaster of dark force 2 or even Jedi outcast maybe even changing the engine will be great
I love Dark Forces II. That's what I'm hoping gets remastered next.
Agreed. Will say goodbye to the OG release's fan patches when such a remaster comes out well.

Jedi outcast would be great too
Buuuuut given the status of the kotor remake I'm not confident any sill ever be made
