I know you get a lot of crap for the Telluride, but I love what you're doing. You're showing people that you don't have to have a beefed up 4x4 to get out and camp. Good stuff!
I agree. No reason to whine that there are better vehicles. I just hope Jason keeps it honest. If he comes to a situation where his truck would perform better and overcome an obstacle that the Telluride won't, I want him to share it.
Fair enough, stock the old Ford would be able to get many more places than the stock KIA, but I am excited to get the lift on it and do a little work to the front and then I am very interested myself to see how AWD will compare to standard four wheel drive. Jason
Thanks for the video Jason. My wife are looking at the Telluride as a new vehicle and since I love to get out camping and fishing, you have made a great argument for the vehicle(I'm already sold, but have to convince the wife). I have the benifit of knowing the Kia line pretty well as ,when they first came up here to Canada in the early 2000's I worked as a salesman at a newly established Kia dealer and learned to love the little Korean cars. This new Telluride and it's cousin the Hyundai Pallisade look like good, heavy duty ,AWD units that do the job and are not gonna cost an arm and a leg to purchase OR maintain. Looking forward to enjoying your channel and seeing the mods you have done to make the truck even better for an outdoor lifestyle....thanks again from Mike,up here in the Great White North.
dunno if you guys cares but if you guys are bored like me atm you can stream all of the latest movies on Instaflixxer. Have been streaming with my brother these days :)
Sweet setup! Looks like just about ANYONE could enjoy camping as you have shown it. What he shows is very realistic here, folks. Camping like this is absolutely great. It keeps everything luxurious and simple. This video shows how easy it can be to enjoy the camping experience. Get out there, people! It's not all that hard to do and the rewards last a lifetime!!!
I’m happy you have this opportunity to drive that Kia and try it out. Sadly though, I don’t see that rig as a good overlanding vehicle. You would definitely be downsizing your gear with that rig right now. Maybe a roof rack for some things. Maybe some trips out in the areas you, Casey and Todd use to go.
Over the next couple of weeks we will be outfitting the Telluride to have more overlanding equipment along with my trailer. As this all gets done you will see the rig become more and more functional for me and the dogs.
I know this is an old video at this point but I just wanted to say thanks for posting it. As a Telluride owner who bought the car with zero thought of camping it's very helpful and giving me all sorts of ideas. Just wanted you to know that to counter all the people pissing and moaning in the comments, there's at least one person who only found your channel because of this content and really appreciated it.
Nice setup! I have a new 18 Chevy Colorado with an ARE TW cap that I'm fixing up for my travels. Building a half platform bed and office/charging station on the opposite side of the bed. I had considered a minivan but couldn't find a 4WD for where I need to go. The Telluride is awesome looking! Nice vehicle!
Hello my outdoors friend, you have a really nice set up with the Kia. I like it that you take care of your mature dogs. You be safe out there. I look forward to your next video. 🤗
hi jason!what i highly recommend to install,is a net or something between your stuff and your dogs and you.when having an accident(which i don't hope),all your stuff is flowing around and hits you.this can be very dangerous.lovely greetings from austria
Don't worry...that is a priority on my list. This was the first weekend out with the Telluride and she was bone stock but I 100% understand what you are saying and already am looking at options to keep me and the dogs separated from the gear.
That was definitely a nice convenience I am looking into changing my setup in the future so the dogs don't have to be lifted into the tent anymore. Jason
Looking forward to what you come up with, wife and I were looking at Jumping Jack trailers. Now she is telling me that she wants an overland trailer for storage and an Oz RV2 to sleep in. On a side note and please don't be sad it was time, My 13 year old yellow lab lost his battle with cancer and age this past week. Today we brought home Cooper his adventures will start in June once he gets all of his vaccinations. I will send you a photo of the new pup via email. Cheers and keep doing what you do for all of us out there your content is the best! @@PrimalOutdoors
Glad you’re doing this series with a regular family SUV. It might inspire people to load the family Truckster and hit the trails. Question: can you disable all the beeps, alarms and warning tones in the Kia for a more stealthy camp site?
I need a larger SUV and this KIA Telluride is a contender. At 5'7" there would be plenty enough room for me and that the feature of using the remote to close and open the rear door while lying in the cargo area is a huge plus.
I've got a Telluride, and am planning to go car camping. My only dilemma is what to put between the second row captain chairs to fill up that gap so you can utilize that particular area for extra sleeping space. Any recommendations?
Really been enjoying your truck camping videos with your tent on trailer!!! This????? Not so much!!!! So, while you’re doing the Kia deal, I’ll be back for the truck vids!!! Everyone to their own thing...... this just isn’t my thing!!!! Later!!!!
Ok, cool totally understand but FYI the trailer and tent will be back as soon as the receiver is put on the KIA and I will be posting a truck video next week, since I have both vehicles and since both will be dialed in for me. It will be fun to have both a truck and SUV to my disposal. Jason
This is the exact set up I’m planning on running with my fridge, but I got the goal zero 1000, though that may be overkill. Can you tell us how long that Jackery can run the fridge (how many nights can you get out of it before you need to get in the car and recharge). Thanks! Love the videos!
I am sorry I don't actually have answer for you on that because I was driving a little each day. One issue I did come against is the Jackery will shut power to ports off if it doesn't sense a load on it after period of time to help conserve battery since the fridge would cycle on and off sometimes the Jackery would shut itself off. Not sure Goal Zero does that or not. Jason
Primal Outdoors - Camping and Photography Thanks for the reply and info. The Jackery looks great and definitely more compact than the goal zero. If it can last a night or 2 that would be the better option. Thanks again from a fellow Oregonian just getting into overlanding.
Very interesting video!! I love the Kia telluride and I always learn allot from you on the important things you use to keep the fridge and cameras powered up.
Love this thing and you've got a lot of folks curious about this Kia. Cant wait to see it all tricked out, however I'm not sure you left enough room for more Pendleton or an AR-15. ;) this is great and much appreciated!!
I'm actually impressed at how much can be done with it while stock. Although if I had all that expensive looking gear I would probably be more comfortable with it somewhat secured when it was outside. Just in case! Now for a question. What's the power like? I'm not asking if its a Race car,or even super fast. But does it keep up with traffic and how does it pull hill's? Espessilly when loaded?
Sounds to me like the power is probably fine then.Somehow I'm not surprised, despite some automotive "Journalist" claiming it was gutless at altitude.I'm glad that it seems to be working for you.I find it interesting.Oh and I'm not sure about the laws up your way.But I hope your careful not to get blamed for something your NOT doing.@@PrimalOutdoors
Hi!! I just wanted to say thank you for making this video. We were looking for suv for car camping and Telluride was the #1 option! Hubby and I are pleased with our Telluride camp set up and pretty good to sleep for two adults too (well we are shorter than you lol)
Goal zero has a problem keeping the fridge working, not very familiar with Jackery, but now you have my attention. If you can power it like you are doing, then that is a win! Just looked and Jackery prices are pretty good.

Hi,I have a question for you: I saw in a newer video, that you have a long jack. What I do not know is how will you use it, since you have OEM bumpers. Where do you lift the rig?
I can't believe the amount of goodies you are gonna get for free. This looks like the big break I was hoping you would receive, I wouldn't be surprised if you hit 100k subscribers in a month or two.
Jason, how long does the Jackery keep your fridge powered before it needs to be topped up? I've been thinking of swapping my Yeti for a fridge to avoid dealing with ice, but I sleep in the back like you're doing here and haven't figured out how to power it overnight. Great video, cheers. Loving the walkthrough/tutorial/etc kind of content in between your more cinematic trip videos.
excellent video, Jason ... kind of wish you'd leave the vehicle more stock, to truly show that you don't need all of the special equipment and vehicle mods to enjoy overlanding ..

Jim, it will be interesting to see but remember the vehicle is getting some mods like better wheels and tires and lift which in my opinion it really does need the stock 8" of clearance is limiting if you try to do anything tougher than standard forest roads. Jason
What about when you crash into something with all that loose cargo in the back ? It would be a lot better if you put the heavy items more to the front, just behind the seats. Or find another way to secure the cargo with a bar in front of it and or straps. ( i,ve been there...)
That is why Jason is building it out, with tires and more overlanding necessities. To see what it is capable of, not only stock, but customized as well. Let's hope Jason gets a chance to take it out on one of Casey's excursions once it is ready for overlanding.
Thanks! I am glad you enjoy the videos. Right now we are still in the build process so I don't have the complete list yet...but I will be dropping build videos as we go along.
How's the ventilation? I've seen magnetic window bug screens online that just attach to the outside of the vehicle and cover the windows, might be good for this kind of use. Cheers .
Great setup Jason! Love it! Wasn’t sure at first how you would like the Kia but it does grow on a person. Everything fits and plenty of room. One word of advice - might want to hide the Pendleton in case you get pulled over 😉 lol!!
I was kind of wondering how that worked up that way. I'm thinking my state has an open container law. Although the fact that I don't drink probably contributes to me paying little attention to that topic.
Jason awesome video ! If I may , add those covers over the windows so you can crack the windows at night to let the mosture out at night !!! Thanks Brother !
This is a nice set up. It seems to work well for you. How do you manage moisture buildup while sleeping? Just leave the widows cracked? Which works well in nice weather with no bugs. I’ve slept in cars on many occasions and usually in bad weather and I find moisture buildup to be a huge issue. Just curious to know what you’re doing to combat that. Also, is your mattress custom made or did you pick that up form somewhere? I’m looking at making some modifications to the Jeep for “over-landing” so I’m keen to see how the build on this goes. Keep the videos coming!
Kevin, it was fairly warm so I slept with the back open most of the time and bugs were not issue yet. The mattress is one I had from my Kodiak Canvas Swag. Jason
Nice! Do you leave the food outside at night? Do you do anything special to avoid wildlife from making a meal out of it? I’d love to try this setup but am not sure how to store the food. I always thought it had to be in a locked car so bears don’t get at it.
It really depends on the area but bears are not an issue where I was at in fact most places in Oregon I have never had a problem with wildlife. I think wildlife is more of a problem in areas where they are use to people camping and leaving food like campgrounds, state parks and National Parks. The only time I did have problems with animals was raccoons in a State Park. Jason
One time I have to buy firewood, once the rack is on there the chainsaw will be back in the game. To be honest I actually buy firewood quite often even with the Ford sometimes its just more convenient. Jason
Can't call you primal outdoors anymore with all of the updated stuff maybe hitech outdoors or good life outdoors. yea I'm jealous looks good seams comfy enuf how long before you get back to camping and those beautiful camera shots of the great outdoors.
jason your channel is very good you do very interesting things in camping, I told you that we saw you in the 5 course to Glastone Kia. I am from tigard or. luck and keep making more interesting videos 👍
If you can measure ground clearance at a few spots under the car before and after the wheels/tires/lift, that would be neat! Looking forward to the update videos
Ahh man I was hoping to see some of your photography , well hopefully you'll get that lil' rig set up soon so you can get up to the good stuff. Can't wait to see the kia decked out. Are you going to try and put the tent on top of the car or keep it on the trailer ?
Hi Ted. I am hoping to start getting out and doing some more photography again soon. I will be keeping the tent on the trailer and will be adding a receiver to the KIA.
Thats a very nice setup but God forbid you get in an accident or have to slam on your brakes all that stuff in back will kill your dogs or seriously injure them. You should use tie downs so things do not slide forward. Even just going off road and having to hit your brakes hard while going downhill can cause serious harm. I have a Kia Sorento i setup very similar i have my dogs travel bed set up exactly the same way but i have everything in my trunk area tied down so nothing shifts. It came in handy coming down Mount Washington and certain trails i went on in NH while traveling down hill.
I know you get a lot of crap for the Telluride, but I love what you're doing. You're showing people that you don't have to have a beefed up 4x4 to get out and camp. Good stuff!

Yes! It will be fun to see how far that little car can go.
Jim, it will be interesting to see but remember the vehicle is getting some mods like better wheels and tires and lift which in my opinion it really does need the stock 8" of clearance is limiting if you try to do anything tougher than standard forest roads.

yea I'm jealous looks good seams comfy enuf how long before you get back to camping and those beautiful
camera shots of the great outdoors.
mrfixit011 haha thought the same
Will the portable power unit allow you to jump start your truck if the battery dies?
jason your channel is very good you do very interesting things in camping, I told you that we saw you in the 5 course to Glastone Kia. I am from tigard or. luck and keep making more interesting videos 👍
Is it a 4x4
If you can measure ground clearance at a few spots under the car before and after the wheels/tires/lift, that would be neat! Looking forward to the update videos
Ok will do, feel free to remind me later if I forget.
Jason
I believe ground clearance is 8in but I'll have to double check!
Hey I hope you have a fun or something you never what can happen be safe and love the videos brother
Totally other question wich boots are you wearing? Looks like vivobarefoot.
Are you happy with those boots?
They are the Belleville Mini Mils T103 and yes I love these boots.
Jason
Got some haters on here I see.
Good luck with the project. I hope all turns out well.
Thanks, Tony
