Family sedan comeback! 2023 Mercedes-Benz C-Class review: C200 - Better than GLC and BMW X3 SUVs?

  • The 2023 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is a stalwart in the premium sedan segment, but four-doors are hardly in fashion anymore. Yep, we live in a country where non-traditional SUVs dominate. But such is Mercedes' commitment to the C-Class that it's now in its fifth generation.
And as always, the new C-Class draws plenty of design inspiration (and technology) from one of its siblings, the S-Class flagship. And that's good news for those buyers that still enjoy a good four-door sedan.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Emily Agar assess whether or not family buyers in the premium segment should be considering the C-Class over Mercedes' equivalent GLC mid-size SUV or its BMW X3 rival.
As she finds out, even the entry-level C-Class, the C200, is thoroughly impressive, so much so that you might reconsider buying an SUV instead of a sedan.

Did I miss your comments about ride quality? Is it soft, or a bit firm, or what? For me, that's very important.

Great review. MB taking a big risk with the HUGE price. BMW will probably take more than a few customers away from

Lol dunno if it’s actually a good car or the reviewer is more intrigued by what the brand name represents

Having owned both previous generations of C class, I do not like the direction of Mercedes interior design. It seems a bit too "Tokyo by night" for me. The removal of physical controls, the dominating screens and the sheer ugliness and disjointed nature of the surfaces does not appeal to me. Perhaps its an age thing, I am in my 60's, much older than the young lady reviewer, but then we are the people with the money to buy these!

These have reputation for turning into endless money pits once warranty expires

I think it's funny that you call it a family car, not many families could afford that, and how could you ever keep the white seat clean with kids or adults for that matter

Well her mum owns the 2017 version so I think we all know what kind of family she is in.

A lot of haters in the comment section. One should drive/own this car before dumping on it. In my area, they are flying of the shelf. It is a great car. Low consumption, safety features, great powertrain and transmission. It can get scratchy inside, that is my only grievance. Other than that, I am very happy with my 2022 Merc C220d.

    Great review,but come on 78k for a sedan, that's a joke.
It scratches just looking at it, this is one of those family sedans where you actually don't drive with other people or kids, because you know,78k,and the crappy luxury you will feel in those 10 minutes drive to your favorite Cafe 🤪.
With those money You buy almost three new hybrid Corolla or two hybrid rav 4

Mate bought the C300 and we were waiting to see what his thoughts are given how many k’s he drives.
Well let me put it this way - we are buying a Beemer.
His C has been under warranty repair many, many times. Mainly electrickity issues…..

Imagine what is going to go wrong outside of the warranty period. Personally badge snobbery aside I would go Korean or Japanese.
