- Geoffroy cats are one of the smallest species of wild cat in the world! Listen to our Education Director Willow Hecht talk about these tiny cats and the problems they are facing in captivity and in the wild.

THANK YOU!
I feel like this commentator needs to do the voice for Tina on Bob's burgers.
u read my mind !!!
I was thinking the teacher from Ferris Buller's day off lol
Nate M yeah but no one can replace dan
Nate M 300th like!
yes
RIP Nico: lived to 22 years, 21 of them in BCR's care. Longest-lived captive Geoffroy's Cat known! A testament to the care which BCR provides to its cats.
you dont know how many times ive watched your videos thinking you were housing a domestic cat in a giant enclosure 😂
th-cam.com/video/laJv1dpDudg/w-d-xo.html
free way wow what a bitch
@@bigcatrescue Thank you! Perfect video to answer my questions!
It's difficult to think of them as "fierce", because they look so cute! Very beautiful cats.
I couldn't understand why the Geoffrey cat had white on her until you said her age. 17 years is a long time even for a domestic cat kept indoors. So, my hat's off to your Geoffrey cat's ability to stay alive and active at such an ancient age.
Wow I have never heard of this cat. Thanks so much for posting this.
Thank you for watching.
I would never have know this was not a house cat. What an interesting cat.
This person doesn't seem like they wanna narrate at all
To be fair, she's the Education Director, not necessarily the outgoing talkative type. More introverted and smart than the Public Relations or Human Resources person, IMO.
RehN256 This probably shows I have been in academics too long. To me, the bonnie lass was like being in the class of a professor or that I have worked with or under in some of my graduate school work.
Arborolatria It is Scottish lad.
Arborolatria That is quite alright.
She might be trying to sound serious as proffesional.
Very interesting video, but Ms. Hecht desperately needs some caffeine. xD
More like a triple espresso! But I do respect her compassion and care for the cats.
So cute! Such a beautiful animal. Can't imagine someone wanting to turn such an awesome cat into a coat.
The only place for cat fur is on a cat. Although I've had cat fur on my clothes, bed, me, my computer, my food...
thhseeking Don’t you wish the cat understood the only place for their fur is on their own body? lol
Yeah there's a very wealthy industry that seems to think it belongs on humans. And apparently a lot of sick twisted people buying them. So horrible. Beauty certainly can be a curse.
The Geoffrey cat, cutting off heads and looking adorable doing it xD
Arrived at Big Cat Rescue 7/19/94 She arrived taped up in a cardboard box. The fury from within the box made opening it a death defying act. As with many exotic cats, the smaller they are, the more fierce they can be. Everyone says that she “looks just like a domestic cat” but careful study of her size and shape shows that she is indeed a wild cat.
She did look domesticated cat at first. But her face is different. I never heard of any small wild cat outside of the serval cat. I think I may have found my other favorite small wild cat besides the sand cat.
The black footed cat is tiny & absolutely adorable - one of the cutest things ever!! - & is one of the most successful hunters around, if not the most successful. 😻 I also love Pallas cats - they're super fluffy & live high up in Asian mountains. The Himalayans, maybe, although I could be wrong about that part.
But sand cats & Geoffroy's cats are cute, too.
@@CyclingM1867 Oh boy, I looked up the Black Footed cat, and they are so cute! Females average a little less than 3 lbs. Very awesome little cat. But of course honestly, all cats are awesome.
@@CyclingM1867 the most successful hunters are dragonflies.
Anyone noticing the speaker sounds bored or like she is tired?
yep
Haha me
The narrator reminds me of an ink-less KatVonD for whatever reason.
I talk like that too but that’s because I have a brain disorder.
She just smoked a doobie!🚬
Me: _hears how much these cats weigh_
Also me: _looks at 18 pound house cat who is waiting for food_
only 55 cats left :(
shame on us
It really does look so much like just a black domesticated cat! The wildcats where I live in Scotland look very similar to fluffier domestic tabbies, but there's a few differences - one of the threats to them here, apart from loss of habitat, is that they keep interbreeding with feral cats and un-neutered/spayed pet cats. I guess the half-domesticated cats fill the same ecological niche as their pure parents, but it's a shame for the species to be diluted.
I think you just unknowingly made an argument for stopping immigration into the UK :/
Rest in peace, bebe grrl
20222 Ann Dean here and thank you for the interesting video. I'm all for preservation of the species! Ann Dean, later
I find this girl explaining about this cat very informative and interesting. I felt more informed than I was at the start of this video. Thank you..
the lady sounds like tina from bobs burgers
Lmfao
Lmfao that's exactly what I thought too.
SPOT ON! Hahaha
ROFL
She really does XD
Looks purrfectly like my cats. :D
Fun fact: In German there's also a "Fishcat", but not Geoffroy cat is meant but Prionailurus viverrinus. The German name for it is "Fischkatze", meaning "Fishcat". The Geoffroy cat is named 'Kleinfleckkatze', something like "small dots cat".
The person just sounds so freaking bored. xD
she is hot
i thought of grumpy cat XD
lol, she's the "education director"
Anybody notice how BCR only seems to attract young females who don't mind working for free?
Gj23jk2 you mean volunteers?
Symptom of our times - people are so bombarded with hype and persuasive commercialism that they see a normal human being as boring. She's a respectful and gracious person.
98% of these comments are about the speaker sounding "bored"
Not everyone is fond of talking in front of cameras.
Exactly. Also, some people just aren't very expressive when they talk.
I'm sure that they all have examples to share of them doing much better...NOT! Get a life people!
I always knew about Geoffrey's cats, but I've never seen them this close. That's kinda cute. They're actually so cute when they're little like that.
wow, so much passion in her voice
Wow, that voice is very persuading
looks more like a regular black cat
+dayton bernal Geoffroy cats are a lot smaller than a house cat. About 85-90% of exotic cats species are actually small in size.
+dayton bernal 3:18
did you not watch the video
+ripb1b I'm sure he did, regardless of the differences in size, shape, and most notably behavior, the resemblance is uncanny. I wouldn't be surprised if some melanistic Geoffroy Cats, melanistic Ocelots, and other similar looking wild cats are misidentified by foolish and stupid people who think they have regular domestic house cats.
+dayton bernal It would be ironic if it happened to be a regular black house cat lol.
Aspie Otaku Hahaha. It would be funny too if Big Cat Rescue simply took different house cats and started introducing each as some exotic species. Would anybody really know?
What a beautiful creature 😱😍
what an enthusiastic voice
narrator sounds like grumpy cat XD
Maybe she's a Bake-Neku. Japanese fear cats that get older than 13 and have long tails, since legend has it that they become shapeshifters that can pose as humans...
no and no
So beautiful! Niko looks so great and in a very condition for such age, judging from how active and healthy he appears. Hope he lives for a great long life!
Nico looks SO very much like my black-coated female dsh, Miki. I loved learning about the Geoffroy as I have never heard of them like so many other people. I hope to come to Tampa to see you guys someday.
Nikos fur is just like one of my (very domestic) cats. He was born black but his mother and brother were striped. As he got older he got more brown tones and those white tickles all over.
I actually didn't knew anything about this little cat, now I have a project. :)
Parece um gatinho doméstico !!! Fofo !!!
What a stunning little creature!
beautiful animal
i didn't know about this cat. it does look like a house cat. but never judge a kitty by it's size and never assume anything about them. it's horrible they are losing their habitat, that makes me sick! we never consider anyone or anything but ourselves in this world, it's always about us. i hope we don't end up losing this gorgeous cat.
patricia mcdermott Their ears are more rounded, though.
much enthusiasm. Man, this video makes me totally want to support this narrator. She is so excited!
I've recently thought about helping my local big cat sanctuary right now so that it helps the big cats there can thrive.
So interesting! I haven't heard of this cat before. I am against killing of all our wildlife for sport or money!!
Niko is so adorable and looks almost exactly like my rescue domestic, Katie, who is also very tiny, with rounded ears, prominent shoulderblades, and the dusting of silver in her otherwise dark coat. Katie is definitely domestic, but one thing she does do, even though she's spayed, is spray-mark copiously!!!
that feeling when you're allergic to cats but make a living from loving rare wild cats
The British writer Gerald Durrell remarks upon a Geoffreys kitten traded to him in one of his books. Much more aggressive than a domestic cat. Rather dated now,but he was a naturalist of some considerable repute. Worth reading his stuff.
My gosh... So many feline species. I wish man"kind" would leave them and their habitats alone (meaning hunting, cross-breeding etc., not including rescues)
Nico is very beautiful, hope she'll have some good years ahead of her =)
These guys are worth donating for! Merry Xmas Big Cat Rescue!
I have to say i never heard of this kind of cat but its pretty cute.
Wow. Thanks for raising awareness about this!
Thank you for saving the feral. Thank you for the patience you have shown to him.
There's a cat called the "Pompous Cat" ?
HAHA! That's hilarious.
Oh...It's Pampas...LOL. Oops :X
Looks and crouches like a mini black panther. very cool
Beautifully-presented tutorial. You guys rock!
I VOW TO NEVER BUY A REAL FUR COAT I HATE IT
Alis Dillon THANK YOU
Welcome^_~
Apple Bee I don't really buy any fur so I guess I'm safe
+Apple Bee If they use cat or dog fur it would not be fake fur.
+Alois Trancy Agree. There are plenty of a much warmer alternatives to fur coats, not to mention they are way cheaper.
Wonderful documentary thank you!!
Beautiful.
What a beauty!
Beautiful cats - thank you so much for uploading this.
Oh wow I didn't know that this kind of wild cat existed 😮 I would have probably mistaken the wild cat as a house cat 😅 if I hadn't watch this video on big cat rescue. You learn something new everyday....will that is if you go look for it.
Thank you for the information. Wonderful cat!
nice kitty. and thank you narrator, you have a lovely voice.
So pretty! Love all cat species!
What a gorgeous face. No, I'd never heard of them before!
She is beautiful. Thanks for posting this clip so that others may learn about this animal and it's importance ecologically
Orbs only weighed 6 to 8 lbs depending if it was summer or winter. She loved water. She was an incredibly fierce hunter. Rattlesnakes, weasels, gophers, rabbits were her prey.
She also disciplined Auggie Doggie, a 60 lb dog for something. Grabbing her by the throat. Auggie got the message, she never did that again. She ruled with an iron claw.
Very beautiful cat
Adorable cat!
@MegF142857 Hi, yes the white/gray speckles is from Nico aging, but she's still going strong! :) I've never heard her make any sounds, she's very secretive! Thanks for watching!
I never even heard of this species until your site! Wow.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for simply existing.
Wow, thank you
What a sweet old lady! (I'm talking about Niko lol) Thanks for all the Info Willow!
Check out that walk @ 2:50 - 2:53 that walk says, "i'm not one of those cheezburger cats, and I don't nom so just watch your step!"
thank you for this educational video
Wow! I have never heard of this cat before. Very cool!
best way to appreciate wild animals is to respect their behavior, maintain natural distance & STOP thinking they can be domesticated. a wild animal roams the wilds, don't confine it to your backyard like a prison term. Thanks BGR, really love what u guys are doing.
PS: Stop picking on this video's narrator. I learnt a ton from the lady.
Thank you for watching!
Very very shy and can be quite fierce at times.
thanks for your videos they are great
This video is well done and very informative. Thank you very much !
So cute!
She looks tame and very happy :)
The Geoffrey Cat seems like he would fit well in a group of hipsters. His dreary eyes, and 'meh' demeanor make it seems like they would enjoy having Nico around. All he needs is a scarf and a pair of glasses. Oh, and we can't forget the cup of Starbucks and book combo. XD
I don't mean to be rude, but your speaker sounded very flat. Like she wasn't very enthusiastic.
What an amazing cat
Love the vid. Lady is being professional about giving us background
He is sooo beautiful
This channel became my favourite haha. I'll surely visit BCR if I ever go to Tampa.
Nico is my favorite cat there!
Yup. The narrator was correct in saying 'people never hearing of a Geoffrey cat.' I hope for the species sake there is a breeding program somewhere in place, and a habitat being saved for them to survive.
this little guy looks exactly like my two black domesticated house cats. its shocking and fascinating to find out there is a species of cat like this. I had no idea.
He is adorable
That is great, I just watched the video and was wondering the same thing. She is so beautiful and I had not heard of this one so it's always great to learn about new cat species. I just wish I was closer to America so I could come and visit.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!
I have never seen the black phase before. Thanks!
Gotta say I was expecting something more along the lines of this: The "JOFFREY" cat (Felineicus Douchebageous) Known for violent tempers, beheading, incest, wedding betrayals, and the Dire Wolf genocide. Known weaknesses include dry pigeon meat/wine. Conservation status, marked for eradication across all 7 continents. Glad to see that's not the case with these little fuzz balls!!! :D
😂😂😂
JEFFry cat DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNNNNNN
LOL
This was so interesting!
Wow, I'm from one of those countries where this cat lives and I didn't knew it was a wild animal. It's easy to confuse it with a domestic kitty. I'll pay more attention.
She looks awesome... 😍😍😍
Nico when she arrived: MA SPECIE GEOFFROY!
They're awesome.
Wow i just saw this animal at the Zoo. Amazing dat species
Sooo Pretty ....! The cat is cute too ! ;-)
vontade de abraçar esses 'gatinhos"... lembrei dos meus!
At first I thought this was about a foster cat named Geoffrey :3
