There is no ethical dilemma here. These people didn't go out an buy a wild animal. They saved him from an unnecessary death. He looks healthy and happy, no signs of stress. They are heroes for their dedication.
The fact that a puma is domesticated, follows commands, goes to training with other dogs and doesn't claw at them says quite a bit about the positive care.
there still is a high risk of them turning on th owners one day... I know recorded cases of people hand raising tigers from cub and then one day the tiger turned on them and ripped their arms off or even critically wounded their owner .These are wilf.animals and.you are playing with fire by making them pets its also unnatural and cruel
@Monk Downs you could say that about most large dogs though, infact many of the dogs in those clips were way bigger. Just because an animal is a preditor in the wild doesn't suddenly mean one thats grown up domesticated will suddenly feel the urge to kill its family...
I wouldn't want to trim the nails of a small housecat, let alone a panther. Any cat who will let their human trim their claws definitely trusts their human. Of course, the pet parent also has to trust the cat.
I’ve followed Messi for years and agree this is the most well-rounded and respectful video of his story that I’ve seen. His owners are incredible people, and as for Messi, he’s very intelligent, but also a total goof ball. He’s a 3 year old child in a puma costume, and I think he knows he’s living the good life. Well done guys on giving this family the credit they deserve! This is no Tiger King scenario for the haters.

I’ve always noticed how much Messi seems to love his dad to the point of screaming and crying if he can’t find him, but knowing that they had basically nurses him back to health from a point of possible death, it all makes sense and brings a tear to my eye
@@KingDomsKingdom85 true my guy it makes me feel kinda jealous since I want to take care of an animal (or more specifically a friend) that I adore unconditionally.
This is hilarious. They aren't rich idiots who just wanted an exotic pet. They are normal people who wanted to help a poor animal who would have died otherwise. This is awesome.
Yeah, normally I take a pretty dim view of people getting big cats, but this was a special circumstance and its the best out of a bunch of bad choices. As long as he's happy. He's a rescue cat who apparently cant live at a sanctuary (I guess he's infectious with SIV or something?) , not much for it really.
@twubbles29 I'm making a guess that maybe he's saying no animal based on their status should be labeled a killer. For example, allowing all dogs and excluding pit bulls is real. The now-closed flea market in my hometown and the apartment that one of my cousins stayed at only prohibited pit bulls. All this to me (even though they're not humans) is profoundly racist.
@@riyasingh2729 everyone knows it’s “mans best friend” woman can bond with dogs too, but you don’t have to turn every single thing into feminism it’s super annoying
They took in a sick and undersized puma that would have been unable to survive in a zoo let alone in the wild. To do this requires a great deal of dedication, money. time. and love. Messi looks really happy to me.
This is a special circumstance that the Puma required more care and attention than a wild life preserve would be able to offer. I have a great deal of respect for these people.
@@njones420 Not really. Just watch how the puma acts. Not a hint of aggression or fear. So why should the puma attack? And dogs can feel such emotions more than we humans.
The fact that they were willing to actually put him in a dog training program to help teach him obedience really shows their dedication to making sure they care for him properly. Not to mention they moved into a bigger home! I dont think Messi could have been with anyone better than this lovely couple, everything they do for him is with love 💙

Screw the animal rights activists. If you follow Messi’s story, you know he’s right where he belongs. I doubt there’s a happier cougar on the planet and he’s as docile as a golden retriever
generally i would agree with the activists. I am a strong advertiser against zoos personally. I think the only decent ways of saving animals are release or wildlife parks with huge enclosures or having animal emabassadors. But this is an exception. Messi would have not survived in any onther way. Sasha and his wife are true heroes. They also took in 2 cheetas, one of which sadly passed away. I think they are great people and i wish them all the best.
Suuure. Guys, it’s not a coincidence that a bunch of random civilians have wild big cats living in their homes, in Russia. Same with bears and other wild animals/exotic “pets.” And they all have the same story…. A zoo or circus gave up a cub for some health/space reason. Smh, they don’t give up cubs, for a ton of reasons. They can make a ton of money off those cubs and they don’t lack the resources to take care of them. You’d have to be totally gullible and/or completely uninformed to believe their reoccurring stories about why a wild animal is always given up as a cub, living with random people who are somehow capable/certified, in their apartment/home that’s a totally inadequate environment 🤦🏻♀️ Y’all, they buy these animals from breeders, which are torn from their mothers after birth, so they can imprint on humans, and (even though you think it’s cute) it’s not a healthy/good life for the animal. Plus they make money off people that watch their videos on social media and want to “donate” to their Patreon account, or in another format, to pay for food/meds. Please don’t continue to support it and please don’t think, “I want one! It’s so cute.” You fell for it.
The issue isn't with this puma specifically (although I do question the story). It's what this puma promotes... Pumas as pets. Which is a dangerous idea for a multitude of reasons.
They are NOT promoting cougars as pets. They merely started a channel documenting the life of living with one They rescued....that would have died. They would be the first to tell it's a bad idea. But they provided this fur baby with a warm, loving environment. Definitely not for everyone. And They did everything right by the kitty.
That cat behaves just like any house cat that loves its owner. You can really see it when they're laying on the couch together. The way he flexes and retracts his paw/claw is a sign of content. It's basically a kneading response.
My ten pound, 4.4kg, cat draws blood on a daily basis when we play. This beast could draw out your soul... What a beautiful animal... Notice how all the dogs were on their best behavior there? They were like, everybody stay cool, we got a wild one here!
What a gorgeous big cat, and massive kudos to Aleksandr and Mariya for adopting him and looking after him with such love! He's clearly a happy and well-looked after cat!!! Congratulations!!!
I don't think this puma would be better living in a sanctuary. He looks like he's extremely close to this couple and I bet he will do just fine! Bless this couple for having compassion and love for all creatures.

So u are ready to take responsibility if anything goes wrong? If he attacks any neighbour or any animal nearby you are ready to go to jail on its behalf?
Well, animal activists are not globally hated for no reason. They do good things for some animals but they also tend to be extremists who see everything in black and white and they tend to forget that humans are animals too. We changed the world because we evolved a capacity to do so, just like every other animal evolved on this planet; that doesn't mean we're meant to be isolated from them and that we can't interfere with nature at all, even in loving ways. Just because some animals are exotic doesn't mean that they shouldn't receive affection or that they absolutely have to live in the wild and obey to their every instincts, with no interaction with us. We used to be hunters as well but most people aren't, now. Does it mean that we're not following our own instincts and that we should drop people on remote islands to live in tribes? How is it better for animals to die in the wild rather than being taken care of by humans? They have feelings like us, they like to receive affection, and to play and they can get attached to someone just like we, and other pets, can. We improved our living conditions using our brains; I don't see why we shouldn't apply it to some animals the same way, when necessary. This couple's motivation was noble and I'm glad they did what they did. I personally would be too scared to do it but when some people are able to, when the animal's been taken care of by humans since it was a baby and if it doesn't try to attack people, I'm not against it. Not all animals are treated equal, even by animal protection groups. I brought a sick baby squirrel at the SPCA once (the animal protection agency where I live). They didn't even try to help it, they didn't examine the animal or give it food, or medication or care, they just put it in a cardboard box as soon as we got there, that they threw in the basement, and they let it suffer and die there. Their reasonning was that they didn't have the time and ressources (a vet) and they had more important things to deal with than a sick squirrel that they probably couldn't help. I understand being busy and having too many animals to take care of, but they didn't even try for 2 minutes and they literally thew the box on the floor, after we spent a few days feeding it and trying to take care of it. Humans are what they are. There are good and bad people everywhere. The couple in this video are good people.
Normally I would never support keeping big cats as pets, but this is an extremely unique situation and messi seems well disciplined and well loved. What a sweetie!
I will tell you more: Dmitirievs, this puma owners, themselves are against keeping big predators as pets and they say it all the time on their channel. They emphasize all the time that Messi is unique case. Because of him being sick and having exceptionally mellow personality the coexisting on the same territory is possible. They say that the only people who deal with big animals on daily basis should be professionals who run zoos, sanctuaries, etc.
They've made him a family member, not just a pet. There's something more intimate and life affirming than him being a novelty, he's a living being given dignity and love. What a story of kindness this is.
One tiny room for a feline this size is crazy. Even my cat would go crazy there. No matter what this is torture. They should have found another way if they cared about that poor animal
@@mariakihl2583 Ofcourse it's not enought. It needs to be send in a preservation or a different zoo with better conditions. Also why would they let kids treat him like a toy? Do you think this is what the animal wants? The owners care to be famous and that's it
@@peanutbutter368 Oh my goodness, I bet he wouldn't last one whole day in the wild. My house cat completely wouldn't survive one day without me. They have a much better life with us rather than taking their chances in the wild. They're way too domesticated.
To be honest, given the circumstances of Messi, I think the couple adopting him was in his best interest; especially when they went the whole nine yards to make sure his every need was met, from Messi having his own space to enrichment, and it definitely shows.
This puma shows lots of love and contentment. If the couple want the puma, everyone needs to quit criticizing them. It is their choice and the puna is VERY,VERY GRATEFUL!!!! God bless you both!
This is an incredibly rare circumstance in which this was justified and to remove Messi now after he has completely adjusted would be immoral in the extreme. Acknowledge the exception and applaud two wonderful people for saving the life of an amazing creature and giving him a loving home.

Messi has his own channel. It’s obvious that he adores his dad (Alexander) and their entire house is tricked out for Messi. It’s the best possible outcome for this animal, no question.
The most impressive bit is Messi letting them peel back and clip the claws. I guess they've done it so much that the cat does not mind anymore. He's super affectionate. Beautiful.
My uncle worked at a big cat rescue place and the one thing that I really learnt was that big cats are just house cats in huge bodies. They'll bond with you if you give them the space they need to begin trusting you. There was an adult male tiger that would treat him just like Messi. Dogs give trust freely, but cats don't
That's funny about Messi! Because most of the "regular" house cats that I've ever had, would give me a hard time about cutting their nails, let alone getting showered or bathed! lol
Wow he really is just a big cat! And not only that, he seems really relaxed and well-behaved even by housecat standards. Never seen a cat so chill during a bath and while having his/her nails cut.
@@tunaaa5997 exactly. I watched a house cat once for 6 months who acted more like a goofy dog and was super sweet but then one day he decided to attack, scratched my legs up pretty good. Glad he couldn't reach my neck.
That's a happy cat. It's best where it's at. They've proved they are more than qualified to have that cat. As we know animals have different personalities like humans do. That's cat is a good one.
All cats are wild . Even house cats have to be tamed. I've raised many cats and when they are first born they are wild. It's great someone cared enough to save this beautiful cat 🐈 😻
Can't truly tame one though. They literally came to humans because we had excess stores of food after becoming agrarian societies attracting rodents which they in turn eat. We just liked having them around to eat the pests.
John Harrison you can see quite clearly that it’s not going to “end badly”. This cat is obviously very docile and friendly, as many hand-raised cats are. And many house cats are not aggressive in the slightest. That doesn’t make them “like dogs”, it makes them like cats. Cats can be extremely affectionate and docile. Cat behavior covers the full spectrum, ranging from extremely dangerous and ferocious to being very gentle, friendly and docile with not a hint of aggression. There is no one-size-fits-all. Clearly this puma has a lovely, predictable temperament and presents no danger. Additionally, he’s not that big and still much smaller than a lion or tiger.

Messi has a wonderful life, you gave him a chance of having the best life ever. From another cat lover to another, thank you!😻
Messi seems like an extraordinarily kind, gentle soul. Like a house cat, he's only ever known life in captivity and being reliant upon humans since he was a tiny baby. Look at the way he interacts with people, he's very similar to a housecat while indoors and a common dog outdoors. He isn't a threat to anybody. Releasing him into the wild would be a death sentence.
I've been following Messi for several years now and I absolutely love him! Mariya & Alexander have been simply amazing taking care of him. They are true earthly angels!
I’ve been watching Messi videos for years. People need to understand that Alexander doesn’t forget for a minute that Messi is a cougar and that he could be dangerous. The difference is messis temperament and ability to interact with other animals and people. Alexander only lets his guard down when he’s at home with Messi, in a controlled environment. Messi is just different. It’s like that once in a lifetime dog that you’ll never forget. Never really had to train him he just sort of understood you. That’s the way I see Messi, minus the training part. Haha. I’m sorry but anyone saying that he should be in a preserve or some other “cage”, I think that that cat would be dead inside of a month if he were to leave Alexander and his wife’s care. Sorry I don’t remember her name. It’s not to take anything away from her, she’s 100% committed to Messi as Alexander is. Without their dedicated care Messi wouldn’t even have survived.
Those people that say he shoulnt be a house cat should be thanking this man for giving this cat a happy meaningful life and they should watch how happy this big cat is
I think the critics have thier heart in the right place, considering that most big cat owners are just selfish smooth brains. But this is clearly an exception, and these people seem very well equipped to care for Messi.
Agreed. This situation is an exception. The puma should stay with these people. It has never lived in the wild or with other animals. It would be depressed in a sanctuary.

That cat, like many throughout history, did the math and realized "humans = free, consistent, good quality food, not to mention affection, shelter, warmth, and entertainment" and decided it was absolutely going to take that offer.
Messi's story is an amazing one and an amazing display of the love that humans and animals can form. Even if you aren't out there taking care of mountain lions, you should still respect that these animals are capable of love, compassion, and caring for their loved ones. For those of us who live around wild animals, it's best to admire them from a distance--but hopefully Messi's story can help you respect that they are not just automatons that reproduce and eat. That they care, they have feelings, they think. And they deserve to be here as much as we do. We should protect wild habitats and wild animals as much as possible--and we should incorporate that into the design of our cities and neighborhoods.
That is truly a unique story! I could not believe my eyes when he was getting his claws trimmed, how relaxed he was was unbelievable! As far as the animal rights activists go I think Messi is happier where he is than in the wild. I've seen some fairly tame Wildcat stories but this just takes the cake! Years ago when I was in high school I took on a summer job as a Keepers helper at the local Zoo and got acquainted with a white tiger they had on exhibit named Kalif. I was allowed to scratch him on the head and make him purr, that was a rush hearing a big tiger purr like a house cat! Something I'll never forget!
What an incredible story. A rare exception to the notion that such wild and exotic creatures should not be placed in a domestic situation. His life was saved by people with the character to nurture him and sacrifice to salvage an otherwise bleak prospect for Messi's continued existence. If it's born in captivity with originally no intentions of releasing then yes but some people do rehabilitation to release back. Messi is not one of those.

Actually, I don't believe he's an exception at all. When looking into the incidents we've seen where one has attacked it's owner, they always find something lacking. Spending adequate time with the animal to bond, animal being starved, unaddressed health issue's, etc. usual results in disaster. Often time's people like drug dealers will have them just to brag but not to really love & care for it. I've seen bears that are at a rescue in NY (I believe that's where it's located) have great relationship with them. Jimbo was a massive Kodiak that was well over 20, sadly passed away a few years ago and had an outstanding relationship with his Humans too, as well as the other bears there. Their TH-cam channel, Orphaned Wildlife Center, has a lot of video's of him.

Problem with many activists is they think as a human and not as the animal they seem to represent. A person who tends to an animal on the basis of the animals reactions, character etc has a better understanding of the respective animal. Point to this couple. All I see is an animal that is content and enjoying the surroundings. Good job you 2.
@Kellyn Antonacci I beg to differ. That may be true in conditions that are ideal for the animal but more often than not, they aren't and an animal has to live through stress and danger just to survive even when it can get enough food. Animals not born in the wild are particularly ill suited to surviving it, especially carnivores. If this couple lived in a pump's normal environment it may be in the wild in the spring and summer but in the colder months when food is harder to get, it would only be away from it's comfortable shelter and warmth for some exercise. Most of the time, it would be sitting contently in front of the fire. Cats are like people, sure they are capable of living a wild life but at the end of the day, they prefer a life of comfort and ease. Don't equate what is normal for them to what they'd want to do. Most humans now couldn't survive living the way that was normal for us a couple of hundred years ago.
@UCIpSw5ASPTb4AERTkL-H7NA I can't imagine a wild animal spending its entire life without hunting, fighting ,breeding or raising their own kids.. Mammals are literally made for it,even humans can't spend their entire life without doing even one of these things
@Kellyn Antonacci People who live in hunter-gatherer societies are way happier... Can you even link to a study that merely hints to that without major disclaimers? The reason we built society is because we were not content with living in a primitive state. Unbelievable... I see you very comfortably posting this from your account, using your modern device, and your internet connection. You have the freedom to go to alaska like ted kaczynski and live with the grizzlys but you dont.
@Kellyn Antonacci Also they quite literally explained how this animal would have been either killed by euthanasia or in the wild because of its illnesses. So you taking the moral high ground is not exactly a wise choice. You appeal to nature by saying "its the only natural state for that animal to exist" yet you ignore the fact that it would perish in nature because of its disabilities. So what is it you want? For the animal to die pathetically in its natural environment almost immediately or to live in a home and get care? I'd love to see you try argue arbitrary ethics around this one.
Like so many others, I've been watching videos of Messi and his family for years. As a pet owner, I know it takes a great deal of time and devotion to care animals, and I admire his owners for taking on such a responsibility. Messi is blessed for them to have found him. Best regards to all of Russia from the United States.
In one Russian interview, Sasha revealed how much work it was to get Messi house-trained (using the bath). So yes, it has taken a lot of devotion. Incidentally, in videos of his vet visits, Messi is calmer and more obedient than any dog or cat I have seen.
@@awuma I agree regarding Messi's vet visits. Just the parts showing Sasha trimming his nails is remarkable. I have two house cats, and one of them would tear me to shreds if I tried that. Messi's nails look like horns. The same is true of the scenes in obedience class and the fact that he doesn't attack any of the dogs.
I've watched their story from almost the beginning. They didn't do this for attention or for views or likes. They genuinely love Messi and have given him a tremendous life.
What makes animals/pets such as dogs (and big cats) happy, as shown in research, isn't as much about having a bunch of toys to play with or large swaths of land to run/play/explore in... What makes animals/pets the happiest is being around their human/owner. This has been scientifically proven to be the number 1 factor in making animals/pets happy.
It was absolutely the right choice to adopt Messi. He leads a beautiful life with Sasha. What benefit would this animal have had in a wildlife reserve knowing he was very poorly initially. I have followed this journey and he has become a beautiful fit healthy puma. Sasha has done an amazing job.

These things aren't evolved for human interaction like dogs. Trying to force it is rife will moral and ethical issues.
Ye looks healthy and happy, wasn’t really meant to be in Russia in the first place though. It’s an “exotic”animal, meaning it should have really been in an exotic atmosphere to begin with, hence why it got health problems and had recessive issues. It’s great these people are giving it a loving home but technically it’s own genetics have been stunted in a sense. If it was fully developed you would need a few acres to maintain keeping an exotic animal like that with a close connection. African tribes have achieved the same thing beyond just centuries due to the vast amount of land. They can communicate with a lost of different animals within the cat family and beyond tbh.
Bruh he's really well behaved even for house cat standards, that's amazing. And people who object against them keeping Messi really have no concept of context.

Imagine calling yourself an animal lover but complaining about a puma not being euthanized because them being a pet makes you angry

@@tacoking1333 no you can’t, a dog can always be dominated rather easily, a large cat will kill you. Just like that. Not comparable

Yes, they saved his life. And now, it seems he is living a happy and safe life filled with love and contentment

Please don’t continue to support it and please don’t think, “I want one! It’s so cute.”

Ha, trimming my 12 lb cat’s nails doesn’t go this smoothly. Kinda jealous. Lol
What an incredible story. A rare exception to the notion that such wild and exotic creatures should not be placed in a domestic situation. His life was saved by people with the character to nurture him and sacrifice to salvage an otherwise bleak prospect for Messi's continued existence. Thank goodness we still have such kind humans among us.

Fun Fact: Pumas are actually more closely related to house cats than they are to big cats like lions and tigers!
It's because puma's ARE cats. Lions and tigers aren't cats, they are felines which is the broader family.

Messi is the exception to the rule...This couple rescued him and love him dearly...And watching Messi you can see the love he has for them...Messi is very tolerant of people and other animals...He acts and plays like a regular cat ..he's just bigger...I live in Washington State in the USA and we have wild pumas here..I love watching Messi on TH-cam and thank his parents for adopting him and letting him live a happy healthy life...
@@janeforbes8911 there are exceptions in every walk of life...Messi is a great example...Just because humans are kind to animals doesn't mean they won't attack...Messi is vastly different then most big cats...In my opinion that makes him an exception...

Messi is a big baby and deserves to be spoiled… I love that this couple took him in and gives him the love he deserves ❤
Messi was raised from a baby. A really small sized BABY. Messi knows affection and need, and is given that affection and need. He would not get THAT anywhere. Some people just are too ignorant to realize this. Messi would stop eating and die of heartbreak of abandonment if daddy Sasha and mama Maria relinquished him to a sanctuary. THIS, THEY WILL NEVER DO. Messi belongs w/ them, they are a FAMILY. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
I adore Messi the Puma, he's such a good boy with such a loving heart. Sascha and Mascha have done the most fantastic job in raising him. He is a big house cat who just wants to love his adoptive parents, their channel brings me so many smiles and makes me feel love. ❤🇬🇧🙌
@Kellyn Antonacci Very well said!!!

What makes animals/pets the happiest is being around their human/owner. This has been scientifically proven to be the number 1 factor in making animals/pets happy.
