Got mine today. Instructions were spot on and the materials were perfect for someone that isn’t very tech minded. Would 100% recommend this for anyone who has this issue. First turn of the key it still showed the error but appeared to then sort itself and all lights now working. Thank you.
Good stuff mate appreciate it 👍
The kit is amazing! Thank you!
@@ganges6661 glad your please with it 👍🏻
My dash is showing the warning sign linked to the left rear light but both are fine and not dimmed or anything. My TT is a 2008 model that's been well cared for. I tried to get the rear light assembly out but it's very stiff. I can wiggle it a bit but it's not as simple to get it out as you showed in this video. Have you got any advice as I'm worried about breaking anything. Thank you.
Bought the kit and got to work on my TT with my dad a couple weekends back. The passenger side didn't need it but got it fitted anyway. Works like an absolute charm!! Highly recommend this fix to anyone having those stubborn taillight issues.
A couple of months ago I noticed my offside tail lights flickering, and, after seeing the badly burned earth pin on the connector block, I promptly ordered this kit.. I couldn't be bothered over Xmas to sort it out, and then, lo and behold, the dash reported faulty bulbs.. 3 days later, I braved the -4°C and fitted the new earth to both sides.. RESULT! All lights now on and brighter! Thanks Chris for a clear video and the cabling to resolve! 💫👍🏼
Glad it all helped mate 👍🏻with the rear lights its not if its when are they going to fail 😉
Perfect fix for my 2010 TT base model. Crazy that it just shorts out like that! I spent 20 bucks at Walmart and it took me a bout an hour being careful and trying not to rush. Very easy fix!!!!!!!
Mate much love from South Africa; watched this video this morning and sorted both my rear lights already. I have seen other videos and yours is by far the best. Thanks again 👍🏼
Thanks mate appreciate the positive feedback and glad it helped you sort your lights out 👍🏻
Thanks for this very clear tutorial about a common issue of TT.
I had this problem since a while on my left rear lights , and my Audi garage never solved it.
I followed exactly your process and honestly I found it easier than I thought 😅
The most difficult was to catch the earth wire behind side wall of hatch ,
because I didn't remove it .
For the rest, everything was OK .
When I started the engine , the yellow alarm was still here , but it disappeared when switching the left indicator , and till now , never came back 🎉
Thx for your precious help ! Greetings from France 🇫🇷
Thank you for the positive feedback im glad the video has helped you fix your rear light problem 👍🏻
Did mine the other day..brilliant little kit...thanks chris
Great stuff mate happy to help 👍🏻
I have no problems now, but will do it when I have time. The best body connection with the original place that Chris showed.
Thanks.
Thanks for the great video. I have a stuffed earth cable, followed these instructions and everything was good! Took me about 1hr to complete. Gold!🎉🎉
Glad the vid helped 👍
Hello from Canada Chris. My 2010 TTS has been very reliable with the exception of a few minor annoyances like the one in this YT video. I didn't even know this was a common issue when it happened to me. One of the male pins in the corner of the connector was completed burnt to a crisp and the plastic around it was also melted. Oddly, it only happened on the right side tail-light. I ordered the whole interior bulb holder part. After installing the defective part, I was still getting the trouble light intermittently, so I pulled the tail-light again to investigate. It turns out that the female connector that the tail-light plugs into wasn't "pinching" that one (grounding?) male pin properly. (I think it was for the ground and it was too loose.) I wedged the "pinching" metal mechanism on that female connector so that what the male pin inserted into it was a tight fit and I haven't had a problem since. I will pull it next summer to see if there are signs of overheating. If it continues to be problematic, I will order your kit. Thanks for diagnosing and figuring out a repair that the stealership simply wanted me to continue throwing money at the problem--as usual. Good job! Worthy of a like and subscription.
Thanks for this Chris, I've got the same problem with my Mk2. Wondering where to earth it to, great idea. This has been helpful, thank you Chris.
no worries mate glad the vid helps 👍

Cheers mate. Just done both side on my mrs TT
I took it to a garage couple of years ago and then the other side burnt out aswell, so got round to doing this rewire today and worked a trick. I just used one wire maybe 1meter or so and just tucked the excess behind the card in the boot.
Had a look at the other light the garage “fixed”. Proper bodge job compared to this.
Re done that side aswell
Saved me £100
Thank you for posting 💪🏽
Glad the vid helped mate 👍
Thanks mate .
Great straight forward video .
Both rears now fixed .👌
Thanks for the video, My left side was 100% OK but the right side was badly burned - I did both sides. Couldn't get m5 hardware so used m6
just diod it. both sets of lights all work 100% thanks my dude!
Nice one mate appreciate the positive comment 👍🏻
Hi Chris just did this by pass earth repair on my tt after having the same issues with the rear left lights, it worked a treat, it was the brown wire at the rear of the boot you earthed to just checking as that's what I earthed mine to, just want to be sure I got it right. Your vlog saved me £££ Cheers😂👍
Yeah mate the where the brown wires are bolted to with the plastic ring
@@CarChris82 Thanks I thought it was. Cheers again.👍
@@stevenedwards2162 no worries mate 👍
This is the best fix I’ve seen for this issue. Will be doing this tomorrow. Thank you for your fantastic guide
No worries glad the vid helped 👍
If you get stuck i have ready made kits available link in description 👍🏻
@@CarChris82 saw the kit on eBay. Very well put together and well priced. Went to the local hardware store and got the parts myself and ending up spending more than the cost of the kit so I highly recommend that for others who want to do this.
Hardest part of the instal was running the wire down on the side with the battery, took me a while to contort my hand into a position where I could grab the wire. Besides that, a very very easy install. Thanks again.
@@Paxie36 you can just pull that trim off but be careful of the clips 👍🏻
@@CarChris82 those interior clips are the bane of my existence. I’ll pick contorting my hand every day of the week
@@Paxie36 🤣🤣🤣same
Your videos are the best and I would really appreciate a video on replacing the brake booster 🙂
Great stuff. Thanks for putting a kit together. Ordered it. Simple fix made even easier!
Cheers mate appreciate it glad it helps 👍
Great tutorial, Just done it myself, but for the ground nut, you need 8 mm.
Thanks for the positive feedback 👍🏻all the cars I have done had a 10mm nut
Nice work!
Camera work is coming up really nicely!
Sometimes you need a jumper cable between the two banks of lights inside the unit.
You can also splice the new ground into the ground on the loom if you bypass the connector.
I’ve been told by an auto electrician that the existing wiring is sufficient but the connectors are the weak link.
Thanks mate that good to know but this method has been around for a long time I did mine 4 years ago and still perfect not even a bulb out 👍🏻
@@CarChris82 fair enough! Mines only been done for about 4 months now but no issues so far. Was just too lazy to go the extra mile and ground in the boot although I could do it in the future if needed 😂
Brilliant thanks for this. Fitted yesterday, although still some gremlins when I fitted back in, presumably from a couple of dodgy bulbs, but wil see how it goes going forward. One question - is there a need to disconnect the original earth at all? Will a burned out connector still cause some issues? Thanks!
Hi I would advise to clean the burnt out connector best you can but yes the plug needs to be connected 👍🏻
Make sure kit is fitted correctly and is touching the metal parts it needs to also if your still experiencing problems you may need to fit the ground plane jumper kit which connects the upper and lower earth planes (which is avaliable on my ebay store)
Cheers Chris
@@CarChris82 Thanks for that - seems to be going OK so far but I'll keep an eye on it.
Great vid. I cleaned the original connectors up which is ok, but would definitely buy a kit from you and do this mod to avoid that bulb out warjihg again.
Cheers mate I will get a kit together in the next few weeks

Nice one mate, videos like this are a god send to a DIYer. just ordered a kit so will tackle this when it arrives.
Great stuff mate glad the vid helps, will post your kit first thing in the morning 👍🏻

Cheers mate I see what I can do 👍🏻yeah Phil was happy and no more rear light failure to worry about

Anyone having this issue. A quick workaround. I bought some contact cleaner spray and cleaned the connector to the light and the lamp holder. Also the contacts I got some tweezers and pushed them back together on the connector. It works but not a permanent fix to fix the corrosion issue. So fingers crossed it lasts a little while longer until I can do this repair
Nice one I'll copy as you did but Christ that electrical tape would drive me crazy
Earth kit available on ebay link in the description 👍
What’s that black spoiler lip on the TT, I’ve been wanting 1 for ages but can’t find any for the TT
hey, thank's for the video, I bought your fix kit and done the same thing, the rear break light and light indicator are working well, but not the reverse light bulb. I switched the revserse and indicator bulb and the reverse still doesn't work. Any ideas ?
Reverse switch maybe
@@CarChris82 never mind it’s working after 5min of driving lol
Bought the kit! thank you Chris!
Received your order kit will be with you soon 👍🏻
I put a link into the light from the original earth but now the brake lights aren’t working but the indicator is, do you think the original earth is shot ? And not up to the job
Hi. I did the wiring exactly like you. Indicators and reverse working but the tail lights still not working. I put a bridge from the new earth point on cluster to the earth track at the tail lights and still nothing. Do you have any idea what could be the problem? Thanks
I do have a kit that does that aswell 👍🏻
Where'd you get that lip spoiler mate?

Chris, do you have any experience with the mk3 style tail lights from spyder for the mk2 having the same issue? When i pull the assembly the light works but fails when put back in. Cheers
I need that kit! Please make it!
It will be a available in a couple of weeks 👍🏻
@@CarChris82 Great! Any idea where I can get a replacement for that flat-ish piece of black plastic trim that goes on the inside of the rear light? The one on my driver's side light has broken clips and keeps coming off. Audi don't sell it as a separate part for the Mk2, only for the Mk3🤬and no breaker's yards near me ever have any TTs.
Only ebay i think or ask in some groups on Facebook
kit are now available follow the link in description or pinned comment 👍
@@CarChris82 Just bought one! Thanks a million!
Can you do this if the lights have already stopped working??
Yes it creates a new earth which has burnt out on the original but give it a good clean anyway when fitting the kit 👍🏻
I done the exact same thing on my MK2 👍🏼. Where did they get that spoiler lip from Chris?
yeah I had to do this on mine a few years ago as both were burnt out and been perfect since and that was 4 years ago, this is a mates car who was having issues with his warning coming on randomly, sorry I don't know where the spoiler from hopefully he will see this comment and let you know
I have this problem with my same car. My connector looks a lot worse than yours. You seemed to connect the body of the car to the plastic of cover of the light unit, cannot see how that will earth the connector?
I connect it to a earth point on the car and the the bolt is on the earth strip inside the light
Do you need to disconnect the battery before attaching the cable to the bolt inside the trunk?
No need to disconnect the battery
@@CarChris82 thank you for the reply! Was worried about getting shocked!
No worries mate
Love it so simple
Having recently got a new-to-me TTS I subbed a few days ago to your channel as you've got some great TT content! The electronics guy part of me though is shouting "USE BLACK WIRE FOR NEGATIVE" ha. Great job, but pretty please get in the habit of using some what correct colour coding (I realise BMW, and apparently Audi too uses BROWN for negative but generally speaking RED = POSITIVE and BLACK = NEGATIVE is pretty universally common) Still a great video, just my useless 2 cents worth input :)
😂😂😂cheers mate I didn't have enough black cable to do both and wanted them to match so had to use the red
@@CarChris82 Ah, ha, I'll let you off then! Been there, done that. Keep up the great vids though, they've been really helpful to me so far doing a few mods on mine. Thanks again for talking the time to create all these
@@IAmOriongot to be done 😂😂 glad the vids are helping 👍
Thats great mate tidy job👏
Cheers mate 👍
+1 for the kit! Will be buying 2 to do each side
Have you got an estimate for the date?
I will put together the kits so you can fix both sides with one kit im hopefully going to be making some this weekend
@@CarChris82 Spot on! Let us know when theyre ready. I looked at putting the bits together myself but so annoying having to buy packs of 100's for eyelets and connectors etc!
Exactly that mate I just spent loads on getting enough parts to make 50 kits and my kits will cover both sides with all connection crimped already so the customer will only need to drill the 5mm hole foe the bolt I have one kit ready to go which i just made up and will make some more on the weekend and get them advertised

@@CarChris82 spot on, ordered! Perfectly priced too, legend!
Do you still have your red mk2 or have you changed to the silver one.
Yes I have the red mk2 the silver is a friends
I vote for the kit!
I think its going to happen 👍
Will you be doing a kit?
Yes mate just got to sort the bits out
kit are now available follow the link in description or pinned comment 👍
Good video.
When I did this one of the rear lights stayed on permanently even after I took the key out of the ignition and there was a warning tone on the dash and the idea what this could be?
I would check your plug and bulb holder as it maybe melted to much so would need replacing but you could try cleaning the pins up first and double check the earth kit is fitted correctly to the right point on the bulb holder
Cheers Chris
Thanks. Great kit with good instructions but there are gremlins in the works somewhere. Both cable and bulb holder already replaced with no issues!
@@christame994 thanks for your kind words please double check all your connections and the kit is fitted correctly as over 100 kits have been fitted with no problems and with the kit we are only adding an extra earth to the part needed so you may have it earthing on something it shouldn't be👍👍feel free to send me a message on Instagram or Facebook with pictures so I can see if I can help find the problem. cheers Chris
Thanks, yes will check again. Don't know how I goosed it up but will try again!
All bulbs ok but not illuminating and fault showing
Sounds like the burnt out connection which causes this problem that's what this vids about. Earth mod kit link is available in the description 👍
what’s the symptoms pal? only my brake lights don’t work but all other lights do
Check to see if the plug is starting to burn out, also the kit will prevent that from happening
sorry it’s my tail lights what are not working, all other rear lights work apart from tail lights@@CarChris82
Both sides ?
yep@@CarChris82
Have you checked the connection to see if it burnt out or starting too
Hi mate can I buy a kit off you?
Yeah no problem link is in the description and pinned comment 👍🏻
just buy a new OEM part, which is obviously also updated.
They still burn out no change was made
Nice video mate, im having this issue at the moment i wanted to replace all my bulbs to Led but now i have the lights coming saying bulbs not working but they do... i wish there was an easier way to solve this ive never done the cabling on the car, also my switches are burnt inside also
Is this warning after you fitted led bulbs ?
@@CarChris82 yes but before also, i also have burnt inside where the earth id and inside the actual socket
Brilliant. Thank you 👍
