Brought a 2016 last Oct… Any chance of a video how to set up the air forks please… I fail to understand how you can only set the air pressure one side and adjust the clickers on the other.. how does the right side know what the clickers setting is and how does the left know what psi is set at..
Congrats, I’ll give you a quick rundown: -You basically want to find your spring rate first -Start by setting your inner chamber and balance chamber -don’t worry about the outer chamber for now -You’re going to want a little more pressure in your balance chamber down below, then you do in your inner chamber up above -these two chambers work against each other. The reason you want a little bit more in your balance chamber is because it will pull the forks downward a little bit, making the bike handle a little bit better - rather than having your outer chamber pushing the forks out to full extension all the time. That makes the bike, rigid, and handle poorly. -you want the front forks to be compliant and be able to dive into turns. For example, with the stock rear spring installed in the bike, my fork settings were 178 psi in the inner chamber, and 190 psi in the balance chamber. -Those pressures may not work for you, but you can see the conjunction the two numbers now, where the balance chamber has a higher pressure, thus allowing the fork to compress a little bit. -The inner chamber extends the fork, when filled with air, the balance chamber drags the fork back in when filled with air. They work directly against each other. You can try my pressures to start, and see if you can get the fork to use all of its travel in your regular riding conditions. you want to use your forks travel, super important. If you notice that your forks do not fully compress all the way, after you’ve warmed up and hit some obstacles, pretty hard, then back down on those pressures. Do it evenly if you are using my pressures as a baseline. Example: if the forks are not compressing all the way, and you need to reduce the pressures, make sure they are 12 psi apart, just like the baseline pressures are (178/190). So if you drop 178 down to 176, then drop the 190 down to 188. Hope that makes sense. If you’re bottoming out really badly, increase the pressure is equally. Just the opposite. Here’s where we can add a little more fine-tuning: I have not mentioned the outer chamber, yet, start with it at zero psi If you find that you like the way, your inner chamber and balance chamber are working, and they feel really good everywhere except they tend to bottom out sort of hard, you can add pressure into the outer chamber, like five psi to start, and this will help the fork not bottom out at the very very end of its travel. Use it to fine tune. It is like adding oil and forks that have a coil springs. I wasn’t able to do this online because the forks were blown, so they would naturally be at zero all day. The outer chamber does let air out if you have blown fork seals. After all of this, you can start playing with your clickers. You will eventually find something that works between everything, including the clickers. Start with the air pressure, take your time, the set ups require patience. Once you find a spring rate, a.k.a. air pressure that you like, move onto your clickers, and start adjusting those one or two clicks at a time. Keep in mind that before you do anything at all with your front forks, you first need to set your shocks sag in the rear. Easy to do. If you don’t know how, there are many amazing videos. If you are too light or too heavy for your rear spring, fix that first, then set the SAG, then move onto your forks. Once you get all of that dialed in, you will have a very well handling machine. But never at its full potential if you do not address both ends. Most importantly, have fun!
Ones compression the other is for rebound... And the forks are the least of the worries on that bike, it's the BRFC shock that is the major issue... send it off to Race Tech or somewhere that knows what they're doing.
Ran several of these bikes from 2008 to 2016, personally I believe the 2011-2012 version was the best. Great frame with easy to tune 47mm forks. Add a oversized front brake, revalve the suspension, your choice of exhaust system and you are good to go.
You are spot on! I searched and searched for a few months when I realized I wanted to do this, for a 2012 model specifically. Really hard to find them not clapped out at their age now. Also realized it was the best idea to go with the newest and last generation of that frame in that body style. Still able to get complete exhaust systems in other parts quite readily 😍
@@mxrevival I have to say, I didn’t think he would hold on like he did. After all he has been through, he seems to run out of gas while Tomac seems to come to life towards the end usually. Sexton is good, but has too many mistakes. I was so excited, I was jumping up and down during the last two turns! Holding the kickstart lever at the end was epic for sure!
The '11-'18 RMZ450s were the best. Chassis wasn't as stiff, and the suspension was better, especially for most people before the BFRC. I had a few of these, amazing bikes.
My dad had a 2016 with the same soaring eagle graphics. It was such a cool bike, I’m sad we got rid of it a few years ago. I found extra factory connection forks in the garage the other day too, perfect timing on this video
I did the 18+ spring fork swap on my 2016. Feels really good, my air forks always felt like they got “stuck” in between the stroke. Kinda hard to explain but the spring forks feel nice. Where can one snag that front number plate as well? It’s cherry!
I took some great photos of it yesterday, and have been wanting to put a “screen saver” area in on the website for people to download. Previous builds, etc. I don’t have that up yet, but you can email me using the contact link on the website and I will send you some photos. 💪
Charles, she’s gorgeous! Factory Suzuki yellow rims would make her look even better like Roczen’s RMZ450. I got them on my son’s 03 RM125 from FasterUSA. They look so good on RM’s / RMZ’s 🔥
Been waiting for this video since I started following you man! Lol my favorite bike is my 08 rmz450 so this was a great watch. Love your latest stuff about the yz500 but this one hit closer to home haha
Nice video. Low and behold, what did I witness sitting over there in the corner 5:54? I got one of those and love it. The incredibly rare but beautiful RMX 450. Nice. Do you still ride it? Mods? Thx.
Decal works does make great stuff...they did my plates, #19 on a set of blue and yellow T-5 series graphics for a '23 RMZ250! Tried the silver shimmer and it looks awesome, highly recommend that and they always throw in a few extra name and number stickers. Great business. Will be back
Hay Charles FYI Harbor Freight sells a nice nematic stapler for cheep. I have used it to do many seats. I highly recommend getting one. Keep up the awesome work most informational videos on TH-cam.
Great timing with KROC win Charles. Nothing worse than 1 or 2 year model runs from other Manufacturers...thats where Suzuki's long model/parts interchange does it for me. Been a Suzuki owner since 1982, be it PE175's,RGV250,RM100/125s and currently a K2GSXR100, 2x PE175s and a 78 RM125. Part of the fun in building bikes is "interchangeability of parts"......thats what Suzuki's have always been. Great episode Charles.
Hi Mike, I did start opening up all the boxes and bubble wrapped items that have been untouched since we moved here… have some great coated parts back from fast blast… just need to figure out how that bike is going to fit into company progress and building a good life.
Deff a sweet bike. Graphics help make it unique and I would've done the same thing by tweaking it just a little. I haven't been on 2 wheels since I was on my 89 kx80 back in the day. Here in Maine we get alot of snow, I'd love to be ripping that yz500 out here in the snow lol. Marked the live on my calendar!!!!
30 bucks for a rotor 😮 I just paid 210 for a rear galfer and 225 for OEM front rotor for my YZ 250! Been wanting to get another bike but I use my bike so much it’s hard enough keeping parts to it! Love Suzukis want to get a rmz250
Yeah, that was definitely one of the best deals I’ve gotten on eBay so far! The parts and mods never end haha. You can pick up inexpensive and oversized Tusk wave rotors too. They are actually pretty good and the front loader comes with that oversized bracket. Hope you get your RMZ!
So happy to hear those newer forks will bolt right up. Are the 18+ 250 and 450 forks the same spec? Length etc. I'll be searching for newer model forks for my 15 450 but want top open thr horizon to 250 forks if I come across some. Thank you
You’re welcome! I’m not sure about the 250, but I would not be surprised if it was the same situation. Most likely they will also slide into the stock clamps. But you’ll find out with a simple measurement. They don’t typically spend any money they don’t have to on alternative part numbers. You can also do a spring conversion on your original stuff, and they will be quite good as well if you don’t like the air forks that is.
There are some really good deals on the new forks out there. You could even go to the 47 mm set up and grab the corresponding triple clamps from 2012 or so. That will really help if you find your frame is rigid too. I believe they did some frame modifications in 15 to reduce some rigidity. Just a blow it all again in 2018. Ha ha.
Those wrinkles from the packaging always piss me off. Bike looks amazing I had one with the Bubba rep graphics, great bike no matter what the internet says
Loving that RCH graphics kit! Going down through mx history it’s pretty to tough to find a more iconic badass team than Ricky Carmichael, Carey Hart and K-ROC. Like McGrath in ‘96 they had it going on. 🤘🏻😎🍻
No problem. The only plastic that will fit your bike is 2008 through 2017. You can check out a website called Pryme MX as they may carry a bracket that will let you put a 2023 front number plate and front fender on your bike
You can prob find a good deal on complete set Suzuki spring forks on eBay right now for pretty cheap and like Charles was saying they’ll probably just drop right in. I recently bought ‘06 RMZ450 forks with the stock triple clamps all for $300 bucks and a shock from ‘06 for $250. I saw a lot of Showa spring forks and shocks in decent shape for pretty cheap.
FLM, that’s bizarre! Sounds like you had a failure in your inner chamber cartridge. I ended up buying the parts to rebuild the fork seals and bushings in the 2016 forks before I made the video, but I could not believe how expensive just the fork seals and bushings were. Compared to most other bikes, there were very few options for some strange reason, and they were much more expensive than normal. Just something I noticed.
@@frontlinemedia4270 just keep an eye out. I just kept checking eBay for probably two months before I found some decent deals. When I first starting looking there was nothing, then a few over priced deals popped up before I saw anything I wanted to pull the trigger on.
