  • The Azure Nebula is at a meeting point along the Klingon Federation border and near to Romulan Space. However, while unimportant in canon lore, it's alternate universe versions have a very different role, that might pertain to reality hoping and time travel among other subspace effects. From Borg to Tholians, many others are interested in this blue dust cloud, so why? Let's take a look.

    My guess is the sensors in Star Trek are automatically colourising nebulas the same as NASA does so the crew have the convenience of being able to see the nebula.

      My headcanon indeed was also that the viewscreens automatically mapped from radio to gamma with various colour schemes.
      Though early TNG asking Geordi to look out of a window to get a better view than the sensors raises questions about that... (especially given the size of the sensors, not to mention whatever frequencies the transparent aluminium would filter).
      And in Discovery the few times they tell the computer to add-in IR information colourised to the visible range, that further questions whether it goes on all the time.
      But of course, every single "graviton burst" that has colours simply must be colourised from the spatial sensors. So. I don't know. Sigh.

    FYI that also applies to Asteroid belts. You can stand on any asteroid and not be able to see another as they are normally thousands to hundreds of thousands of km apart. What we see on TV and movies would be debris fields, either from moons or planets that have recently broken up. If there is enough mass in the local area the field could be collapsing into a new planet as well.

      If I remember correctly, 2001 Space Odyssey actually had a space cruise ship go Out Of Its Way to approach an asteroid in the belt. That was how spaced apart they were.

    The reason we can see nebulae in Star Trek is because the sensors automatically alter the image seen on the viewscreen. I don't think there's an example of someone seeing a nebula with the naked eye in Star Trek. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

    I'm gonna go out on a 30 second limb here and say it's visible because the presence of the noble gases within it are being ionised by nearby stars and ships passing through it, thereby causing the same effect as electrified neon in a vacuum tube.

  • @NightridingDoom

    it may be phosphorus based nebula that emits blue light thanks to the radiation from the star, particularly UV radiation from nearby stars. Phosphorus is theorized to be produced by cool stars. If thats the case, Azure nebula is explained by being primarily phosphate nebula. however, it only emits blue light under UV, so there goes my theory

    • @PongoXBongo
      @PongoXBongo 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Perhaps a ship's shields or sensors emit UV radiation, thereby causing any phosphorus around the vessel to light up?

    Rick i got a theory like in Chrono Cross both dead sea and sea of eden same place 2 universes one held a conglomeration of destroyed realities all merged together while the other was a future zone of chronopolis ground zero for the Timecrash when the frozen flame overloaded their systems and sent the entire city back 10,000 years but at same time dragged bck dinopolis yet another timelines chronopolis but ruled by reptites, this Nebula has similar properties hence why it could be so young but yet old like a continuous timeloop each time it circles about makes new timelines

    If it happens, supernova explosion should be bright as the full moon on the nights sky, so if its possible to see its nebula, we will see it xD
