    As with most electronic problems, finding something that thinks it is broken but actually is not, is the most difficult. That "neat" blue catamaran is currently listed for sale on YW, and yes, the pics look like a beautiful and very capable boat

    You've learned that too many security blankets (alarms) can be detrimental to effective piloting. The best practice is to have thorough and up-to-the-minute knowledge of the status of your vessel - don't take on water, don't set the boat afire, don't drag anchor, don't run aground - none of these require alarms, just regular attention.
    Afterthought - Switches on a boat should be of a type and location that precludes accidental throwing.

    • @SearchingforCShels
      @SearchingforCShels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, but both up to the minute knowledge and working alarms are good to have as redundancy. Agreed about the switches. Should at least have a cover over the switch as well.

    • @bobbeckstead8340
      @bobbeckstead8340 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SearchingforCShels The reason for my practice regarding most alarms (even engine alarms - gauge monitoring is superior) is that (1) boaters tend to rely on them rather than frequently proving systems, and (2) alarms often fail causing their own problems and needless anxieties (as you've experienced). In my 60 years plus going in all manner of boat and most conditions, I've learned not to have alarms (or automatic stuff other than bilge pumps) aboard. Even on large vessels where inspections are difficult due to geometric considerations, alarms are unnecessary with the availability of reliable crew.

    Great video I’m in New England so very envious of the weather you’re having although I was boating on my Tollycraft yesterday . I do have a question I noticed on your anchor pulpit you were able to move your anchor roller to the rear in the pulpit how did you get the axle out of the pulpit it looks like the axle was molded in . Thanks for the videos.

    • @SearchingforCShels
      @SearchingforCShels  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi James. Thanks. On our boat, with the bottom of the bow pulpit taken off, it was easy to get at the nuts holding the axle on. Then we used a right angle drill to make new holes 3 inches back, we put in stainless steel bushings in the new holes and secured the axle. Your's may be different.

  • @CheersWarren
    @CheersWarren 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank for not hiding the reality of cruising life. So I’m assuming you have diesels with electric cutoffs , is that what the fire suppression cuts off? I’m surprised they do that as normal thinking is if you have a fire you run the engine to such the fire into the engine . Unless they are assuming cutting off the engine cuts the fuel supply . Which makes more sense with gas engines .....but not diesels
    Cheers Warren

    • @SearchingforCShels
      @SearchingforCShels  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that is the fire suppression shutdown. If there is a fire in the engine room it is really no use having the engines running. It may make things worse. You could even save your engines if you get to put the fire out before damaging hoses, wires, and belts. once wires, hoses or belts get damaged the engines are going down anyway.

    • @SearchingforCShels
      @SearchingforCShels  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Plus if the fire retardant goes off, you don't want the engines to suck that in internally. Would be catastrophic to the engines..
