- Welcome to Season 4 Episode 2. This is day 2 of our visit to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. We got to explore all kinds of liveaboard and cruising boats, from semi-displacement motor yachts, to full displacement trawlers, to multi-hull powercats. This is our boat life, our alternative liveaboard lifestyle on the ocean.

We are a travel couple, looking for a non-mainstream life of living aboard a boat and cruising in the Caribbean/Bahamas in Winter, and the Great Lakes in Summer. Working when we can to fill the cruising kitty. We have sold everything we own, and we now own a cruising yacht. We have chosen to do this voyaging in a powerboat/motor vessel, instead of the popular sailing route.
Our mission is to help inspire people to live their dreams earlier in life, instead of waiting until retirement. So often retirement dreams are dashed by health issues, or other unforeseen later life circumstances. If you have a dream, then dream, plan, and do it now. We hope to make you smile, and spark the urning in your heart for fulfilling your dreams.

Dream big baby, dream big. Look what you have accomplished so far.....I'll bet 10 years ago your current lifestyle was just big dream. You guys continue to be such an inspiration. 5 years ago owning a boat was just a dream. Then came the 28' cruiser......3 years later came the 38' cruiser which we absolutely love and are dumping boatloads of cash into to make it our own. Life on the water is indescribable.....and I hope some day to make it a permanent home. It's the only place, and I mean the only place I can go without thinking about my cell phone.

Nice video, appreciate the longer length to get a better feel for the show and your really good walk-arounds. I dream of engine rooms like those.
Karen and I saw the Aquilla 44 last year at the Norwalk boat show. She totally loved it and even asked the salesperson if we can get a better deal if we bought one and our friends bought one (we could!). Was a whole lot of boat for the money. Unfortunately friends weren't ready. Our current plan is crossing to Bimini in early January and we'll have you guys to thank. Fingers crossed that nothing interrupts the plan this year.

Fleming. I have been lusting over the Fleming for years. As far as sea worthiness Tony Fleming has taken one one everywhere one could go in all conditions. Watch some of his videos.

The first boats with that style of panel ( as in pull out on a hinge with the plexi cover inside ) that I saw were the Flemings. They have been doing that since the very first Fleming.
Jaqui Greenlees , it is a slick looking installation.
The question remains, what does NASA Grade Wiring actually mean? I wish we asked that at the show. Marine wire is tinned with thinner strands in the bundle than standard wire. It helps with corrosion. Not sure what NASA uses, and I don't think there is salt water in space.

Enjoyed your Vid ! I I like the Marlow also, size 50-55 is a good length - volume and how it is used is what a boat is !
For me any boat at 50+ has to have a dishwasher - and it is really simple at $1.5m + why would you not have one !

I really enjoyed the video folks. We’re hoping to start the great loop in the spring and sidetrack over to the Bahamas The following winter. We’re going to need a larger boat. These were probably a little expensive for my wallet but nice to see.
Yes, may be a little expensive for most. Though a Fleming seems like it would be a good fit for you. 😉

I like you guys and totally want to watch your videos, but offer a suggestion: edit out the extraneous fluff and shorten the videos. It tends to take way too long for you to get to the central point of your videos, which are quite interesting. Cheers!
Thanks for the tip Mike. We play a balancing act. When we post short videos, people say they want longer. When we post longer ones, people say they want it shorter. People like b-roll and extra fluff sometimes, it gives some context. To be honest, we just do these based on how we want to remember it. We hope you will continue to watch, no matter if they are shorter or longer. Cheers!

Every year I look at a new boat and decide I going to buy it. Next, I take a look at the price tag and then I go home and use my '84 Symbol 51 for another year. My boat may not be as fancy and shiny as the new ones, but it's paid for and I can afford to operate it. Still, the Fleming 55 is always going to be at the top of my dream boat list.
Yes we feel the same about our Tolly. We come home and say for the money we spent, this boat is mighty fine. And those boats won't make us happier, just maybe slightly more comfortable, and a lot poorer. lol

Great video. We are planning on heading to Flibs next year. Can’t say I’ve ever been a fan of the galley up layout like the Marlow with having it in the pilot house area, however they do have beautiful lines. Our dream is a 52 KK. We saw a 52 and a 48 at Trawlerfest in Stuart a couple years ago and fell in love. We haven’t seen the 50 open yet. You seemed turned off by the lack of seeing the bow from the bridge? Do you really feel it’s a big deal?
Thanks, we appreciate you watching. We would love to get to a TrawlerFest sometime. Seeing the bow is not that big of a deal, however if I'm already at the helm on the flybridge on a nice day, and we are coming into dock or even to an anchorage I won't be able to see Cyndi on the bow giving hand signals or just seeing what is going on in general. Again, not a biggie, but I would have to come below when ever there is line handling or anchoring happening on the bow.
Great video. Really enjoyed it as usual. Shel, you mentioned about aching knees walking the boat show. You should absolutely try a supplement called Bio Cell Collagen ll from The Vitamin Shoppe. I would say start doing a lot of reading over on cruisersforum.com Avoid the social media groups because any useful info is nearly impossible to search for and what little of any value does pop up gets diluted by meme shitposts. Also, start spending weekends on the boat. What you need will make itself known under safe and controlled circumstances.

The Euro styling of the Absolute Navetta doesn't work for me.
The Kadey Krogen's lack of a side deck on both sides of the salon doesn't work for me.
I do love the Marlows, it's just to bad they don't have a west coast CANADIAN dealership.
( import of boats is easier with a Canadian based brokerage. )
I do like the space you get on a cat, the styling of the Aquila is to Euro for my taste.
I'm surprised you didn't take the opportunity to look at the Fleming 78 since you were right there.
Maybe you can open a dealership on the West Coast of Canada. There is a lot of red tape and the added duties of importing an asian built boat into Canada for distribution. A Marlow with an enclosed flybridge would make a pretty nice PNW cruiser.
We had already done the Fleming 65 the day before (in the previous video) so the 78 Fleming was not on our radar.
Were you just looking for enjoyment or are you actively looking for a new boat?
Always looking and wondering what the next boat might be if we ever decide to upgrade, but this was mostly for enjoyment.

The Absolute 52 isn't a high quality boat. They look cool and modern but are not very reliable
