Alloy USA X-Joint Dana 44: amzn.to/39PnH8X
In spite of what so many people on the internet will try and tell you, Dana 44 front axle shafts on a Jeep JK Wrangler Rubicon are NOT inherently weak and you do NOT need to go out and buy a set of expensive RCV shafts to prevent breaks. The problem with factory axle shafts is that they utilize c-clips to hold the bearing caps in place and over time, movement in the caps can cause the c-clips to work themselves free. Once the c-clips are gone, there's nothing left to hold the bearing caps in place and if they fall out, it's just a matter of time before the trunnions tear apart the ears of the yokes. That being said, a great solution to help prevent this from happening is to run a good set of chromoly shafts and u-joints with full circle clips, much like the kind that AlloyUSA makes. The full circle clips will not come free of the bearing caps and this alone will help prevent the number one cause of front axle shaft breaks. This short video will show you just how easy it is to install a set of AlloyUSA X-Joints with full circle clips onto one of their chomoly front axle shafts.
This is one of the best “how to” videos I have seen! I have been checking out this gentlemen’s videos and they are well done and thought out! Great group of people out Jeeping and have a fun time and they help each other big time! If he was one of my friends I would have to leave kegs at his house for all the help I would be asking for! 😃
sometimes I forget that there are still people out there that have never done u-joints. great video
I usually put a little grease in the caps to hold the roller bearings in place.
Hey Eddie, good video . I would like to see you do this same kind of install BUT, out on the trail. Atleast show a few tools we should carry to be able to complete something like this. That would be Very helpful. Thanks again.
On the trail, I carry fully assembled replacement shafts.
Wayalife Could you link that product or at least the name of what you bring on the trail with you.
Excellent vid I applaud you on it please keep them coming.
Thanks for the informative video Eddie, many thanks!!
Your how to videos rock!
nice straight forward video as always!
Great video, as always, but come on! When do we get to see the 2015 JK Experience? You're killing me here!
+Steve Botkin Glad you liked the video but we are no longer attending the JK Experience. There will be no video for the 2015 event from us.
+Wayalife Thanks for the reply Eddie. I'm bummed as I enjoyed those videos a lot. You guys did an amazing job on telling the stories, the editing, music selection, and showing the Jeep camaraderie that exists in an event like that. Still looking forward to what you have in store for us in the future!
It is interesting to see that there is a company that does not drill out the centre for grease ways. Now there should be no question of which is better. BUT now for the big question, how much more do they cost comparatively speaking.???
I have a link to buy them in the description.
Video is very detail great video
Nice informative video. I've seen u-joints fail on the trail and cause the stub and axle shaft holes to break. In that case is that typically caused by the u-joint failing first? If so I assume installing these will help prevent that from happening?
+yzfr1owner No. Over time, the c-clip can and will work itself off the u-joint. Once this happens, there's nothing that will hold the bearing cap in place and it can fall out. That's what will cause the kind of breaks you've seen. Installing a shaft with u-joints that have full circle clips like is shown in this video will help prevent this from happening.
Great video. Keep them coming
Im looking to do this myself with some air tools. Wondering how many lb ft of torque a impact gun should have for this project.
Wayalife,
What grease did you use for the Yoke Bores?
What type of grease is best for the U-Joint Bearings?
Thank You in advance!
Cheers,
Conrad
Wish you would do non Rubicon version. I'm having a huge problem finding correct ujoint. On paper it calls for 5-760x but they're way to small. I think mine used the Rubicon size.
That's for an older TJ. For a JK Sport, you need Mopar 4137757
looking this for a 2003 jeep tj rubicon dana 44 and chrome mole axle where buy those tks
Is needing to file the edge standard for all brands?
May not have even been needed for this one. I just do it as standard practice as it certainly doesn't hurt anything to do.
Sounds good thanks! Great vid as always!
Did you already change the rear axle shaft if so which one do you buy
Actually, we're running a Dynatrac ProRock 60 in the rear.
Can't tell you how much I enjoy videos without those lame hollywood wannabe intros.
Where do I download the music,?
Would this prevent breakage on my stock Dana 30 shafts as well if I just upgraded the stock u joints?
Yes, it can help to prevent a break at the yokes due to the c-clips coming off.
I'm having a hard time finding the correct size u joint for Dana 30 axle shaft. I hear ppl buying certain ones and they're too short.
For a JK?
@@wayalife yes. eBay says Spicer 529 but my friend went with Moog 489 because parts store gave him what it called for but they was to short. Reason I'm needing to know because I'm buying a ball joint and u-joint kit and the u-joints it has with them is sp-529. Not sure what that cross reference with???
@@wayalife u have any ideas?
529 sounds right to me.
@@wayalife it ended up being 549 which is s-760x
Can this upgraded U-Jount by used with stock JK Rubicon shafts?
+yourmarketingman Yes
Where can these be bought?
+Albert Ortiz You can get them on Amazon, Summit Racing and other vendors like it.
Very cool thanks
Example of how to do a video correctly.. I don't care about whey jimbo needs to do something.. or some tangent topic. thx.
