  • SOMEHOW the automatic electronic choke on some Cummins Onan p4500i and Westinghouse iGen4500i units gets unplugged during shipping leaving your brand new unit unable to start. Fortunately there is a simple fix to plug this choke back in! Follow this video if you have one of these unlucky units to get it started.

Will never understand why Ducar put an solenoid operated automatic choke on these. First one I bought on line 3 years ago would not stay running because the choke did not turn off and just flooded the engine. I took it to Cummins. They were very nice about it , kept it 2 weeks because the problem for them apparently was intermittent. They finally determined it had a bad solenoind but no parts available. Mine was an early production and most of them had this problem or choke was unplugged like this tutorial. They had another one and gave me that even transferred my high altitude jet to it and this one has been fine. We camp every month so in 3 years this gen. has over 400 hrs on it. I use 10W30 Onan- Cummins oil in the winter and the 15W40 in the summer , it is expensive and looks like mineral oil. I have a Briggs&Stratton oil extractor I use to pump out the dirty oil because the drain plug deal is a real P.I.T.A. Also got a magnetic drain plug , think it is the same as the Wen. I do like the commentor here's idea of installing a manual choke on it which is what the Chinese should've done.

This is crazy, the same issue on many similar inverter generators, a snap lock plug falls off!

Hi. I’m having the same issue but the electronic choke is plugged in. I’ve had it for over a year and I don’t understand what’s going on… please help me. This is my only way to get power as I’m off grid. Thank you 🙏🏽

mine worked for a year now it does not want to stay running. I found the choke is automatically positioning but I have to stop it from going off as soon as it strarts killing the motor. any ideas?

Ugh wtf! So my choke worked when manually crankek and manually choking it… but it won’t start with electric choke. Cracked it open and it was plugged in… soo frustrating

I regret not having found this video sooner! Let me elaborate that I regret paying $446.11 to have a Cummins service center diagnose this exact same problem, for my generator.
