    Love smooth-on! I have used the company's products since the late 1980s. Not only do they taste great, but they are less filling........
    Thank you.

    Great job Smooth-On, I find your tutorials very useful for my line of work and you have been of great help always. Since I work as museum curator/conservator, I would love to see more of your guide videos for fossil/paleontology/petrology advanced mold making...maybe something like high detail but fragile crystal specimen, or something like field geology molding (high speed molding)

    Of course, the go-to resource. Am curious about the Precision Incubator you're using to heat the mold. Could you share more information about the oven you're using in the video? A quick look online suggests that these oven/incubators can only go up to 65C/149F - but markings in the video clearly indicate higher temps. Thanks!

    I will cast a large leaf. I have two questions in this demo: how did you clean/remove the natural pinecone bits from the silicone mold that I saw when demolding the original? And, should a mold release spray be applied to the silicone mold prior to the final resin cast so the resin cast demolds more easily?

  • @BeefaloBart

    Hey Smooth-On, when are you going to release some MSLA resin for us who do resin based 3d printing.

      @@smoothon There is some room for innovation here. There is a problem with prints sticking to the bottom of the tank. If you could make a product that used a liquid or gel separation layer in the bottom of the reservoir it could prevent that.

    • @JackRupert133
      @JackRupert133 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Elizabeth Greene If you release your FEP film it will dramatically reduce the sticking of your prints. I actually used a Teflon airbrush lubricant called Regdab Needle Juice by Badger and haven’t had a single print stick. Not one. Try it out!

    This was very interesting! My aim is to make 3D molds of very small pine cones (1/2" to an inch) for silver clay jewelry making purposes. I also want to pine cones to remain closed. Do you have a product that I could use for that?

    So,the label for the 202 says cast no more than 1/2".Parts of the center of the cone may be thicker than that.Obviously,it's not going to explode if poured thicker than that,lol,but what issues COULD arise?I am really surprised that pieces of the mold don't come off when demolding,amazing!!Thanks for sharing,learning a LOT from you,fascinating stuff!!

      I know this is an old comment but figured i'd answer. Resin curing generates heat, and the denser the resin the hotter it gets. Those high temperatures can cascade and distort the resin in the final product causing warping, cracking, etc.

    Hi! Thank you for this video. We are about to use 00-30 in a small research project. We need to make a thin silicone sheet. Either way, no need to use a degassing equipment or oven to complete the curing process? Appreciate your answer.

    • @smoothon
      @smoothon  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jeanne, the Ecoflex 00-30 will cure at room temperature in a thin layer and does not require degassing.

    Since this complex shape demanded a highly flexible mold, why did you not choose 00-20 or even 00-10?

    • @smoothon
      @smoothon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. Though these softer silicones may also have worked, Ecoflex 00-30 was suitable, and will give a good number of castings.

    I think making it a 2 part mould would have been easier for you , if you where going to rap it in Aluminium anyway, ( and made the silicone into ~ best way I can describe it ( woodworking Tongue and grove joint) shape so one side of the silicone fit inside the other then rap it in aluminium.

    some where i saw make it but when you look carefully will see its made of several part that weld together but how does join silicone rubber together after molding ? is it possible before the final drying stick the parts together?
