      This is a lightweight theatrical prop, not a functional wrench.

    Can you use pressure casting techniques with the slower version of 325? Or will the metal filler not show up correctly? I would rather pressure cast the material if possible with this technique...

    • @smoothon
      @smoothon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The metal powder may settle our when using a slower resin.

    • @secondarycontainment4727

      I've seen people coat the mold with the powder. It will embed on the surface of your cast. This is typically done using mica powder.

    hello , i did the mistake to remove the props on the first mold and now it doesnt fit right...i get it about DO NOT REMOVE PODEL FROM MODEL, because now i got some space between my mold and props. What advice can you tell me to fix this before i pour the second mold ? thanks

    • @smoothon
      @smoothon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should apply release to the entire first mold half, even under where the model goes. That way, excess rubber that gets underneath can be removed and trimmed away.

      It would depend on the height, but urethane resin can be very impact resistant.

    • @smoothon

    Something I’ve been thinking about - is if Silicone can only stick to Silicone, why not use two or more different version of Smooth on silicon for Mold making, ~ example- Rebound for details then say Mold star to make the rest of the Mold, or mix and match ~ the best of both products.

    • @Multiabuse
      @Multiabuse 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do that a lot w rebound and moldstar/dragon skin. You just have to make certain that the silicones are compatible (e.g. platinum cure and tin cure do not play well together).

    @smooth-on Can a cold cast be polished to a high shine ?

    • @smoothon
      @smoothon  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can be polished to a high luster, depending on the amount of powder you add. Because of the nature of metal powder, “chrome” type finishes aren’t really possible.

  • @bluebeast440

    All of these cold casting videos with the metal powder.... you never mention powdering the molds first, yet when you open the molds after casting, it's clear that has been done by the halo of color.
    Also, you can't get that quality of metallic shine from just powder in the resin (which is why the molds should be powdered first).
    Why do most of these videos omit the powdering of the molds, even when it has been done?

    • @smoothon
      @smoothon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In this case, the residue is from an earlier test with powdering the mold. It didn't provide any benefit for this piece versus mixing the powder in, so that is the method we recommended for this tutorial.
