Loved this video! I would love to see in one video your lowest “maintenance” routine and your highest “maintenance” routine for your wavy/curly hair to get the best results for your hair either way
Het, Courntey! You may not see this but I’ll say it anyway. I’ve been going through some tough times lately and seeing you be so cheerful and sweet has made me feel so much better so thank you!♥️
Hi Courtney 😄 I just wanted to reach out and say thank you! I've just re-started wearing my hair curly (after shaving it last year for charity) and I'm learning so much from your videos!! My hair has never been better!! So just wanted to say thank you and God bless! ❤️ Nikki ☺️
Your videos have helped me TOTALLY change my hair for the better! I’m still in the (blah!) transitioning phase, but you have given me lots of tips and tricks to help me. Thank you so much!!!
Hi Courtney I think it has a lot to do with hair type/density/porosity/health of the hair, how much product is needed. I have a LOT of very thick/course textured/long/highlighted/curly hair and need waaay more product than that. My hair drinks leave in and curl cream. It needs tamed so I want some weighing down as it helps with frizz. My hair is very thirsty and also wants oil/emollience so i love shea butter etc. Having a gel cast does help with longevity for me and helps combat frizz. I don't need volume - lots of volume here naturally and instead want smoothing. Even when dry it's half way down my back, so it's a fair bit longer as well. i've tried using less product as it increases the drying time, but my hair just looks dry/frizzy. I go through conditioner far more than shampoo and also use a leave in after either conditioner or mask. I often use a mask every washday - my hair needs a LOT of moisture. My hair is just different from yours and to look shiny/healthy needs more product than yours does. A teaspoon is a drop in the ocean to my hair - try a handful instead. The video was interesting though and best wishes.
Well done Courtney! 🙌🏼 This video was timely for me because I've been struggling in the "how much is enough/too much" department lol. And yea, the edit on this rocked, too. 😘
Helpful video! Always a struggle to find the right products and right amount to use! My youngest daughter introduced me to the fact that my hair has not just been wavy all these years it is actually curly! So in my late fifties now and just learning how to properly care for my hair! Always interested in new products. Thank you so very much. Blessings to you and your family!
Ok this might be common knowledge BUT I just figured out that you have to scrunch the gel in for a WHILE before you add water 😅 I was just adding water right away because the gel was still “sticky” but last wash day I “praying hands” and “roped” the gel in, then scrunched for a GOOD 4 mins before I added water and the next day (I do my wash “days” at night) was one of the best hair days I’ve ever had!!!! I also scrunched upside down at first, and then flipped my head right side up and smoothed some more gel over my hair, and then scrunched it upside right AND THEN flipped my hair upside down again to scrunch upside down to give me more volume.
I have the same sort of curl/wave pattern and length as you, even low porosity, just coarser strands, but I can't use the same amount of products I see a lot of wavy TH-camrs doing. I put barely a pea-size amount of leave in, and three pea-size total of gel and it creates an actual hard cast in my hair. It's crazy how even just slightly different hair types have vastly different needs.
In my last wash day I didnt use enough leave in and since my hair really likes a moisture product . it felt soo frizzy and dry and my waves were not defined as much. Next wash day is tomorrow and clarifying day❤
You make washing and styling your hair look easy .. And I still don’t get how to do on my own hair!! Love all of your videos, I watch them several times
Thank you so much!! This will be tremendously helpful for me. As someone growing out a pixie, I find it very easy to use way too much product, and I have started using measuring spoons like you do. In fact I have the exact same ones you have! I have watched so many of your videos (and viewed many of them multiple times), and I continue to learn more and more helpful techniques. Your spirit really shows through, as well as how genuinely you want to help us beginners master these skills. We all love you and value everything you put into this labor of love, You ROCK!!!
Looks great! The slip on that treluxe gel is incredible! I need a lot of product and I would say a tsp is more than enough for me especially with the reflex serum. also, those stylers are glycerine free. Reflex is my favorite refresher product. Pea size on wet hands, roping around areas that need reviving.
Love watching this process. The squishy sound is so funny on 1.5x speed. 😂 This was super helpful to see someone else do. I want to try some of these techniques now - especially the teaspoon! I’ve been plopping for about 30 minutes before I diffuse and noticed that has helped as well.
Hey Courtney! I have a question. Your hair is similar to mine and I was wondering if you could make a video about the Kinky Curly Curling Custard? Curious to see how you apply it and how much you apply! Love from the Netherlands! ❤️
This was GREAT, Courtney! Very helpful. I'm new to my curly hair and product amount has been such a struggle, so this comes at a perfect time. Thank you so much. BTW, your clumps are #hairgoals 🙂. Workin' on it.
Such good info! I've gone wavy/curly for 1.5 years so far, but just recently I am trying different styling techniques. I have very dense, wavy hair and i am trying to see if sectioning and brush styling will help with product distribution (tangle teaser to start). I am thinking i also am heavier handed than i need to be. I just did a wash and am trying the measuring spoon tip (1/8 tsp since i tend to have to section in 6 sections). Feeling positive that i have better application without overdoing it. Plopping now, 🤞🤞🤞
I love your videos. You are one of the few with this type of curls who is teaching us how to style them. I thank you for that. Do you know if a particular hair cut or length would help get your hair to look it's best. I have layers and the longest layer (mid back) doesn't curl as much as the rest. Is it the length or me doing something wrong. I hope you can answer my question or make a video about it. Thanks!
Hi Courtney, I am about 1 month 1 1/2 months into the Wavy Girl Method. Can I just say your channel has been so helpful. My hair when brushed and pulled back real tight dries straight but when doing the WGM it is 2a,2b even some 2c fine but thick. My question is I basically need to diffuse and refresh daily for my waves not to. fall flat and to give my hair the look I prefer. Now I know heat is a no,no with the WGM but even here in CA it’s cold in the mornings ... and I don’t want to leave the house with wet hair. I do use the not super hot setting but ... Is That ok ? Also I do get flyaways here and there and some days even though my products do contain glycerin it gets frizzy. I use the Suave Cleansing Sulfate Free Shampoo Shea Butter And Coconut Oil or TJ‘s Tea tree Oil or As I Am Co wash. As far as Conditioners most days I Either condition with JESSIE CURL DEEP CONDITIONER ( leave on 30 - 60 ) with a shower cap and towel wrap or do the Olaplex number 3 Protein Treatment. So far the only day my hair has super pretty definition is on the first day and then it needs refresh every day.... I do want to continue but my brain is 🤯 just trying to figure my mop of hair out 😆😆. Please keep all your awesome posts up !! I love them !!best to you and your family💜
I love your videos Courtney! So helpful 🙂 you verified what I discovered too...that if I use enough product, it seems slimy but turns out ahhhmazing! Thanks so much. Love hearing your little one making noise. Precious! #blessings
Some of my family don't like my wavy hair. When I wear my hair in its natural state, my mom always makes me brush it. She tells me its friizzy when I wear it wavy, but for me its even more frizzy when brush it out! She says if my hair clumps together it's "unhealthy" but I always thought it was cool when they clump bc my hair is findng its natural pattern or getting more defined. How do you think I can tell my parents I like wearing my wavy hair?
you should tell them it's your natural hair and that brushing it will eventually cause damage. if they don't believe you brush your hair out once it dries and becomes wavy. it will be super frizzy and then show your parents and make them feel it in order for them to believe. hope this helps 😊
You could try french braiding your damp hair with a bit of curl cream and gel, you will have more "traditional" waves when dry that should satisfy your parents but shouldn't damage your natural hair texture or hair health until your old enough and financially ready to move out as an adult.
Tell them they're destroying your self confidence. They should love you for you. Or maybe sit down with your Mom and have her watch some of these videos. She's probably clueless on the curly girl method.
Yeah, like said above, your mom might not know about naturally wavy hair, or how to care for it, so showing her these videos may help. Your parents also might not know they're being insensitive either. When I was younger, I once left my hair unbrushed after a shower, and thought the natural wave was pretty cute. Then my dad saw it and told me it looked like it needed washing, which crushed me as a 14 year old. I hope your parents see your perspective.
@@sunflowerbaby1853 Thank you, that's what I've thought of. I've been thinking showing her some curly hair routines from this channel and Manes by Mell. I hope she'll understand why I'm doing what I do to my hair.
I wanted so badly to love Reflex Serum and Hi Definition Gel but they're too heavy for my hair and make it take a million years to dry 😩 I noticed you only used leave-in and not a rinse out conditioner too. I might try that to see if that helps not weigh my hair down
For wavy hair, what line of products would you recommend? Not your mothers, curl smith, mop top, or treluxe? I wanna take advantage of all the sales, but not sure which would be good to try!
When I first started the CGM, i bought so many new products and the only products my hair loved was the treluxe line. They have both moisture and protein ingredients so it helped my hair stay balanced
I have no idea what I'm doing, I've always had "frizzy" hair but my mom and brother have probably anywhere between 2c-3a hair and my brother does nothing to it and my mom always heat styles her hair. I have really thick hair, a lot of it, and it's long (past mid-back, I'm 5'8) I usually just wash and condition let it dry, and throw it up 85% of the time. I'm so lost but I'm committed, hopefully, I can figure it out :)
I just started watching your videos. So new subscriber here! I noticed in your videos you always wash your hair upside down. Is this better to get the best waves\curls? Or is this just something you do for videos? I have waist length hair that I plan on cutting to about my shoulder blades. So I'm just starting cgm and am waiting to start until after I cut.
I'm new to your channel. I love your hair! Mine is very curly/coils. Would I do anything different having my hair type? If I were to fluff and scrunch out the crunch, my hair would frizz out! Any advice for curly, curl type 3B, Porosity-high, Density-high, and fine? Please & thank you!
Hey Courtney - Do u ever find aloe making ur hair frizzy? I recently had a terrible time with frizz (more than normal). I did some research and found that aloe could be the reason. I had been using Uncle FD where aloe is the 2nd ingredient, very similar to these products. Do you have any insight on this? I would love to try Tresemme products but afraid of the frizzy thing. Thx!
Your hair is amazing. I have been doing CGM for 6 weeks and growing out my natural gray for 10 months. I'm already seeing progress in my curls getting bouncier but the frizz on top is terrible! Not sure if this a bunch of new growth that is not yet long enough to be weighed down? if it's because of the products I'm using? or if it's just because I'm early into transitioning? I also wonder if I may be aloe sensitive/protein sensitive? This is all so hard! I've been watching a ton of your videos! How long after you started the CGM did it take for your curls to clump nicely and the transitioning hair to look good?
What about the Curl Supreme™ 4-in-1 Hydrating Creme? I have it but don't know quite how to use it in the line-up, what products to use with it, etc. Have you used it?
My hair takes forever to dry naturally but when I squish to condish it looses moisture so fast. Should I just add more water? I also have horrendous wet frizz. Help! (I'm super new to CG. I have loose waves that need strong hold)
Ok Courtney, I've been on the wavy/curly hair journey for 3 months now. I've made since significant progress in it but I still have so much to figure out. My main concern lately is that I have wet frizz even without putting products in it. Whether I just washed it or I'm just wetting it. I've even noticed it right after clarifying and deep conditioning. I've watched your video about it and yet I still don't understand why I'm struggling with this. It's really frustrating and discouraging to see it week after week. I don't know what to do. I'm so lost! Do you think you can help me with this?
I was having that issue. Turns out my hair HATES deep conditioning. It was overly moisturized. I had to focus on protein to restore the moisture-protein balance.
@@KpopInYourArea95 do you run a detangling brush or wide toothed comb through your hair before styling? I’ve found that helps to form the clumps and then if there’s still wet frizz I add product to help keep the curls together
Hey there. I'm new to this curly girl journey. My hair was straight until I had children. Now, it has a good wave, but I'm not skilled in how to style it. I'm a bit overwhelmed as I try to begin. I just washed my hair and could already see strands that are not sticking with the curl family. Any thoughts? Edit: nevermind, I ran across a couple more videos that answered my question.
My hair definitely looks better on washday when I used more product. But then I end up with crunchy, crispy hair on day two. Any recommendations on how to deal with that?
Hello, I'm new to curly girl method. I have always had really long and frizzy hair and discovered I actually have wavy hair. I've spent a long time bleaching it and straightening it the get rid of the frizz. I have always had very curly or wavy frizz especially halo frizz. If I tug on them they spring back and no amount of water or gel seems to keep them down. Is this normal for frizz to be curly and refuse to stay down with product? I was wondering if I could potentially have curlier waves than I thought?
My hair did that a lot during the transition phase when it was really moisture deficient. Maybe try using a tad bit of curl cream instead of leave in. And a tiny bit more gel to help the clumps stick together.
I started in August too. My problem is, I'm pretty sure that there's enough moisture in my hair. When I put a curl cream in its all fine, but with leave in they separate...
@@niquesse3609 That’s straight. What leave in do you use? Are you protein sensitive? For me, my hair loves protein. It will clump together very well after I use Aphogee 2 steps protein treatment.
I find my hair looks “wet/oily” even after its dry. Does that mean I’m using too much product or could the product have too much hold for me and I should try lighter products?
These products never do that to me which is why I keep getting Treluxe. I don't think its possible to use too much reflex serum and it is so lightweight. Definitely my favorite product I have tried in their line. It feels like it helps hard gel work better
Bought the set you’re using. I saw a 4 in 1 cream. Why don’t you use that? Is that for very very curly hair? Mine is very damaged from bleaching my hair 3 times to go from red to gray. I lost a lot from bleach dissolving my hair etc. I’m using your method and I love it. Would I need that 4 in 1 cream? Ps I have about chin length hair at the moment. So I assume 1/2 teaspoon for now? I’m growing it out to your length. Gonna take a year. Ugh. Love you and your videos. I learn a ton!
I actually love that cream! I will substitute that for the leave in conditioner sometimes. 👌🏻 My hair loves t! As for product amount that depends very much on your hair and what it wants. 🤷🏼♀️ it’s kind of a trail and error thing. You have to play around with it and see what works.
Hi Courtney! I was inspired by your videos to started the CGM 1 month ago. My hair is virgin, non-heat damaged, fine, high density and pretty long. When I first style my hair (1t curls blueberry bliss leave in, 2-4t Giovanni gel in soaking wet hair, plop, diffuse) there are sections with 3A ringlets and others with 2A waves. But then throughout the day I end up with nearly straight hair. My hair has never held curls with a curling wand so I’m not sure if my hair is transitioning (although I’m not sure that is relevant since I have very healthy hair) or if I should stop trying to get it to hold curls. Do you have any tips on how to get better hold?
If you are scrunching out the scrunch and still have that you could try using a tiny amount of hair oil. Also, clarifying and a deep conditioner may help!
Doesn't look like you can combine the coupon codes for Cyber Monday with your discount, Courtney. Kind of annoying since it means I should have just ordered yesterday for the best deal.
I watched a video a few days ago where you showed an oil you used to SOTC and I can’t find the video or the product. It was in a brown bottle and you used 3 drops. What is it??
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney Thank you! I’ve just switched to CGM a week ago and it’s definitely overwhelming. But enjoying it!! I’m due for a haircut and sent you cut video to my stylist. I have similar hair to you except thicker I think and low porosity. My hair feels stringy and like straw. Trying to figure this all out!!
I find my hair looks great when I'm scrunching but by time I've scrunched the other side, the first side has dropped already. Is that normal or is it possibly too heavy? 🤷🏻♀️ I'm debating getting more of my hair cut off this time around to see if that helps as it's currently half way down my back and I'm still transitioning, so I guess that may help!
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney yes, I tend to do this as well! Its such a minefield trying to work out what is best! Ive recently copied someone on Instagram who plopped her hair in fish net tights and diffused through the tights and that worked really well for me, especially as someone who can't diffuse normally due to chronic pain! That could be video worthy I think 😃
I know your showing these products bc I’ve never found a good curl enhancing product that works for my fine oily hair. Most just leave it nasty looking.
My hair requires a lot of product. I need to section my hair into many sections and put product on each one. Every strand needs to be coated or diaster will ensue. In comparison to you , you put nothing on yours. 🤣 And measuring is hysterical. I've tried less. Disastrous results and a waste of styling time. I need Santa to leave me stockings full of hair care products. ☺🎅

I would've scooped up the bit that landed in the tub and put it back in the bottle, lol. I don't like to waste product, esp. when it's expensive.

this really helps, I always use way too much product, and now i'm thinking of getting a tea spoon
I just found this channel and Courtney oh girl, I love ya!
Love your channel and I looooove your hair! Absolutely beautiful! ❤️
Amazing!!! Love the info I got from this video!
Can you please try the CurlMix line?
I'm new to your channel. I love your hair! Mine is very curly/coils. Would I do anything different having my hair type? If I were to fluff and scrunch out the crunch, my hair would frizz out! Any advice for curly, curl type 3B, Porosity-high, Density-high, and fine? Please & thank you!
Thank you! This video is exactly what i want to know
Hey Courtney - Do u ever find aloe making ur hair frizzy?
Gorgeous wash day! 😍
AMSR LOL it’s supposed to be asmr idk why that made me laugh 😂
I tried foxybae anti-frizz shampoo and conditioner it helped
I'm having the same issue, and I just started my transition phase!! Did you manage to figure it out?
@@KpopInYourArea95 do you run a detangling brush or wide toothed comb through your hair before styling? I’ve found that helps to form the clumps and then if there’s still wet frizz I add product to help keep the curls together
Wonder how much I should measure? 🤔 not sure if 1 tsp is enough since my hair is longer than yours.
Do u have hair dye in your hair? Why does your scalp look red?
How long do you plop for? And which diffuser do you use?
Hello, I'm new to curly girl method. I have always had really long and frizzy hair and discovered I actually have wavy hair. I've spent a long time bleaching it and straightening it the get rid of the frizz. I have always had very curly or wavy frizz especially halo frizz. If I tug on them they spring back and no amount of water or gel seems to keep them down. Is this normal for frizz to be curly and refuse to stay down with product? I was wondering if I could potentially have curlier waves than I thought?
My clumps fall apart completely, when I shake my head side to side, (so I can squish the back too), even when it's soaking wet. Help?
My hair did that a lot during the transition phase when it was really moisture deficient. Maybe try using a tad bit of curl cream instead of leave in. And a tiny bit more gel to help the clumps stick together.
Wow, I totally understand that. I am having the same problem. I started CGM in August this year.
Would you use a teaspoon of ag recoil or less? I’ve heard it’s intense and can weigh stuff down if you use too much
I use recoil as well! I pair it with fast food. I can’t seem to find a good balance with them so I’m interested to see the answer to this!
I find my hair looks “wet/oily” even after its dry. Does that mean I’m using too much product or could the product have too much hold for me and I should try lighter products?
You're most likely using too much product.
These products never do that to me which is why I keep getting Treluxe. I don't think its possible to use too much reflex serum and it is so lightweight. Definitely my favorite product I have tried in their line. It feels like it helps hard gel work better
Hey Courtney, where can I get your tee-shirt and the one you wear with the lines in the back to see if your hair is longer? Thanks 😊

I've scrunched so much my hands are wrinkled from water. Lol
Oh I also can’t seem to get a cast... even when I tried the biosilk gel
When I use muse it feels hard and stiff. What I'm I doing wrong
If you are scrunching out the scrunch and still have that you could try using a tiny amount of hair oil.
Also, clarifying and a deep conditioner may help!
I'm new to CGM and am struggling with getting my 2b waves/curls at the crown of my head to sit well. Any tips/tricks?
Try finger coiling, when I first started the CGM, my hair needed curl training.
@@squid958 Thank you!!! I'll definitely try that
Doesn't look like you can combine the coupon codes for Cyber Monday with your discount, Courtney. Kind of annoying since it means I should have just ordered yesterday for the best deal.
I watched a video a few days ago where you showed an oil you used to SOTC and I can’t find the video or the product. It was in a brown bottle and you used 3 drops. What is it??
It’s the Innate Life Rose Hair elixir. It’s soooo good!
No that is totally normal. I actually scrunch my hair one more time all the way around right before I plop and that helps.
I am clearly not using enough product in my hair. Lol
There is coconutoil in these products😭
What does a cat feel like??
Also I'm just starting and I cant seem to get it to curl. It feels dry.. and goes flat by the next day. Can you help?
you look like zac efron abit :)
My hair requires a lot of product. I need to section my hair into many sections and put product on each one. Every strand needs to be coated or diaster will ensue. In comparison to you , you put nothing on yours. 🤣
And measuring is hysterical. I've tried less. Disastrous results and a waste of styling time.
I need Santa to leave me stockings full of hair care products. ☺🎅
