The di Maria transfer is so interesting with hindsight. He really wasn’t that bad on the pitch, we were just fresh off the Fergie era and assumed the Moyes season was an anomaly. He got 11 assists in 27 games in the prem that season. Extrapolated amongst 38 games that’s 15-16 assists for a player that was never really settled in Manchester. I’m still convinced he would have bossed it in his second season, but he decided to quit. Most of the drama was off the pitch really. He’d never wanted to leave Madrid, he couldn’t hack the weather, his wife hated everything about Manchester, and of course his house got robbed. He never endeared himself to the united fans, but you can understand why. The only really bad thing that happened on the pitch was he avoidable red card against Arsenal in the FA cup. It came at a really low point for him and I think was the moment he checked out mentally. Definitely a flop transfer, but compared to many of the signings that followed, he wasn’t actually that bad. If he had that season in the current united squad, he’d be player of the season.
Defending Torres because they won the Champions League is so dumb, "oh he scored" wow a tap in that a million players would score. The bloke literally couldn't hit the side of a barn for most of his Chelsea career. His form was already going down at Liverpool but the drop off at Chelsea was insane! Lots of squad players get dragged to trophies they didn't really contribute much too.
As someone with no strong feelings in any direction towards Havertz, saying "You can't say he won you the game!" in reference to a game in which he scored the winner has to be the most silly, biased statement ever. Saying he won them the game should be such an obvious statement that even Michael Owen wouldn't feel the need to say it.
I love how he scored their only goal in a UCL final, being a key reason for winning it yet Chelsea fans hate him, they even admit that his goal in the final was amazing
@@Deathmare235one goal doesn’t overtake 2 years of absolute dog shit performances. If a chief cooks you meals for 3 years and he consistently cooks shit food, and once or twice doesn’t suddenly make him good, legendary, iconic, likeable, or any since of I should defend this guy😂

By far as well, I don't even believe a player as bad as Antony has even cost £30million in the EPL. If Antony cost £50million he'd still be the worst but £80million is beyond a joke. He is Championship level and would not start a game for a single team in the EPL. He is also likely to blame for the Sancho saga, Sancho must have been fuming watching Antony get games knowing that the guy couldn't lace his boots.
Carroll was not very good for Liverpool but we signed suarez and Carroll as a pair to replace torres. Suarez more then made up for the joint amount spent
Balotelli played great in his debut but he didn’t score. He missed an empty net. Otherwise he played great though and we were very excited. He might have assisted Sturridge right before he got injured for nearly the rest of the season. Balotelli did score the winner against Tottenham in the reverse fixture though which was in February. It might not have been his first match… but it was his first goal ☠️

Veron also, Veron cost I think £30million in 2001, I think Zidane only cost like £37million then and was the most expensive player ever. Would be like spending about £125million on him in 2023, pound for pound in the era cost more than Pogba and was probably worse.
Why are we in 2024 still acting like Torres wasn't awful from the 2010 World Cup? It wasn't an overnight thing from Liverpool to Chelsea, the only good game he had in the 10/11 season for Liverpool was against Chelsea
@@bigmoist2112 This all the way. Carra isn't bitter about Torres - Liverpool players knew he hadn't been the same player for some time. I was at Anfield for what turned out to be his final game, and even though he'd put the ball in the net in that match (really early strike, ruled offside), the first I heard about him moving to Chelsea was multiple Liverpool fans trudging out of the stadium saying "If he keeps playing like that, Chelsea can have him". And it wasn't just because we'd lost - we'd won (admittedly what was an awful match and was 1 - 0 with an own goal...)
@@chrispalmer7893he’d been awful for spain too for a while, i remember everyone being bemused at the fact he was keeping out David Villa who was tearing it up for Valencia. Don’t know how it happened but that injury just seemed to make him really clumsy, that’s the only word I can use to describe it, never had the ball under control, it would just bounce around his feet/knees, maybe he got away with that more when he had pace.
@@celtic69 That was the thing with Torres, whenever he was off form, or returning from an injury, his touch went. And not just a little, it became awful and none of his other skills could make up for it. It happens to Salah, too, but to a far lesser extent so Mo is able to compensate (and he gets his touch back after a game or two)
I love how they say the finances don't count because it's not the players fault only to turn around and use finances when they want to prove their point 😂
People seem to forget what an immense player Fabregas was for Arsenal during the Emirates era and just how important he was for us - the guy was the heartbeat in our midfield and helped drag us through some difficult periods. I think he edges Alexis Sanchez for consistency and longevity - but can't think of anyone else who gets above Alexis. RVP, Ozil and Cazorla all had moments where they burned brightly but not to the same level. Saka could well go on to be top of the list if he keeps doing what he's doing.
Just commented this somewhere else but there was a time where sanchez was one of the best players in world football not just with arsenal but chilli, he was just unlucky that his peak was with an underwhelming arsenal side at a time where messi, ronaldo, suarez and neymar were all in their prime years still, had he produced that 2016/17 time form in recent years he'd definitely have won the ballon do'r over a Benzema for example, level of players is a bit lower than it was 7-10 years back.
Miles is really fucking clueless...when he talked that crap about Sanchez I couldn't believe how a dude that talks about football for a living can have such a shocking take...I was glad Rory and Adam called him out on his bs take
It's an agenda. It doesn't even make sense, he hasn't even been at Arsenal a whole season yet. Mustafi would make more sense, even Jeffers maybe. This is all for clicks.
These people have no clue about football. TOrres scored 45 goals and assisted 35 times across all competitions which left him with a goal and assiste every 136 minutes in his Chelsea career.Considering he was part of a Chelsea side that won 2 important throphies, he can never even be in the conversation for worst signings no matter what peopl expected of him.
The worst take on this is saying Enzo is rubbish. He's currently having a great run for Chelsea, and he's added goals to his game which is what Chelsea have been dying for. Goals from midfield and not relying on defenders from set pieces.
@@Deathmare235 Caicedo has Quietly just been improving week in week out. I dont think either of them deserve to be in the list just because of the "Fee's". Its a factor for sure, but hey havent even had a full season together. Sure they started slow, and had Caicedo had the worst start possible. But since then? He's been playing at a decent level (still room for improvement obviously), lets not forget that nearly the entire dressing room had never played together 1.5/2 years ago.
LOL yet you Chelsea fans are quick to call Havertz a flop. How many times have Caicedo lost possession leading to goal against? All that for £120m and Chelsea fans make all sorts of excuses
Trying to defend Sancho is a losing battle. There is no excuse for what he did and the manager has every right to criticize his players. Also Rory saying Havertz was the marquee signing just conviently forgetting about Declan Rice. Him and Buvey pushing Rorys agenda against Havertz so badly it's embarrassing. So salty bro lol
How is Pogba not on Adam's list, sold for free, bought back for 90 mil, big expectations, played well 1 in 10 games, bad attitude and bad presence for other players and then left on a free. Oh and he was on massive wages too, potentially number 1 lol.
Decent list but a fair bit of recency bias, especially for signings in the last 18 months. Some older clangers that deserve a mention include: Shevchenko to Chelsea Jeffers to Arsenal Andre Santos to Arsenal Ali Dia (maybe too obvious and it was a free but has to be number 1 for the sheer insanity and embarrassment of it) Thomas Brolin to Leeds Aquilani to Liverpool Rodwell to Sunderland Mangala to City Berahino to Stoke Taibi to United Kleberson to United
Are you seriously blaming one player for that? Even more so, when you don't remember having seen him play, but just heard your dads rants? That's a bit wild.
@KTK44 football is a game of very fine margins. Bellamy 's form cost us atleast ten points and we were 8 from safety. One player can relegate a club, look at Leicester last season - they could score all day, but Rodgers fell out with Shmiechel and played Danny Ward in goal who is not even a tenth of a player and as a result they couldn't keep a shot out for love nor money and went down. Its a game of fine margins and often a player is that margin
Chelsea fan here - Kepa probably deserves to be in the top 10, but second on the list seems a bit harsh to me. We spent a record fee on him and he has been extremely underwhelming, but I don't think we should forget that he had a pretty good first season under Sarri (minus the sub incident) and had a great patch early 2021/22 where he won us the Super Cup and a Carabao Cup game by himself. He was bad, but not terrible.
Rory genuinely has negative ball knowledge. Saka has been poor this season? Is he mad? Havertz has only been at the club for 6 months, give the man time to grow, I don't get the agenda against him being so heavy. Podcast mics need to be more expensive I swear
We knew Torres was done when we sold him, his performances where gradually getting worse for a while before he left but Chelsea thought they could revive him and get him back to his best 😂 YNWA
It's shocking how bad he is at that price tag, makes you think Ten Hag had an offshore account topped up from Ajax for doing it. Would be like if Davie Moyes went to Man Utd and spent £50million back then on Mirallas lol
Nobody going to mention Seth Johnson to Leeds United!! Huge fee in relation to the time, doubling his salary from initial agreed salary. To top it off he barely kicked a ball over an injury laden spell and then went back to Derby
Is that Miles having a laugh with that Sancho shout?! " 26:43 what would you rather do, turn up for training or match day?" Both lad! Both! He's paid a ransom to be sh*te
People who go on about Torres going into decline when he signed for Chelsea forgets that the decline actually started at Liverpool in the season before they sold him.
Fernando Torres scored 45 goals in 172 games for Chelsea (1 in 4 ratio), had a 20+ goal scoring season in 2012-13, contributed to all 3 trophies he won particularly the UCL semi-final and the UEL final. He's probably 10th in the list due to the expectation and money but no way is he any higher - there are many players that cost a lot and actually did nothing for their club.
@@harveywebster4998 He hasn't even finished 1 season at Arsenal. How can he be in the top 10 worst signings of all time without finishing a single season, let alone his career. Keep up, kid.
Rory's arguments for Havertz at Arsenal contradict his argument against Torres being on the list (if another player was on during that champions league game, they wouldn't have played with 10 afterall, the result would surely have been the same) and all his arguments about expectations. The very fact Havertz flopped at chelsea lowered his expectations at Arsenal immeasurably. Plus its still very early days so far at Arsenal. Maybe his transfer to Chelsea should be on the list, but definitely not to Arsenal.
Looking back at this, Buvey puuting Havertz to Arsenal in 8 is one of the worst shouts I've seen in my life. So much stupidity in a single take & everyone except Miles agreed with him.
I mean in hindsight yeah but at the time it was filmed it really didn’t look too good. He obviously turned it around but there wasn’t any evidence he’d pick up the form like he did
@@Samanater456he didn’t look too good in the 8 position. But he also never looked like a top 10 worst signing in the 8 position either, especially considering the others on this list. His 5 months in midfield at Arsenal are no where near as bad as a lot of others careers in the prem (which is what these lot were comparing too) Oh and additionally your hindsight point is irrelevant. Buvey and Rory said several times it doesn’t matter it’s only been a few months; years down the line their prediction would still reign true according to them - but 5 months later it’s just so clearly filled with bias and stupidity
Defending Sancho when he has done literally nothing significant in his career is insane. Imagine how much of a bum Sancho must have been if Antony was getting in ahead of him. Sancho’s most significant moment was missing a penalty in the Euro’s. He’s a grown he should be able to handle a little public criticism.
Rory is absolutely clueless. Of course Havertz looked like a flop at your shit team. He’s one of Arsenal’s best players this year and anyone not at least giving him a mention for top ten BEST signings of the season hasn’t really watched him play and only look at G/A
Mourinho didn’t strip Pogba of the captaincy. He said he wouldn’t be in consideration for the vice captaincy anymore. Pogba was a “what might have been” signing for sure, but he also had great performances, if not a whole season.
Murdyk at least has raw skill, pace and ability. Mudryk is a bit like Anthony Gordon I think and would probably have done well at Newcastle, Arsenal probably even Liverpool, Spurs and teams who'd just play him and let him attack. Chelsea signed him, rarely played him even when he has good games he gets benched again. Murdyk will probably have a good career if he doesn't cut it at Chelsea, wether it's a team like Atletico, Sociedad, Villarreal, Sevilla, Lazio, Roma, Napoli, Dortmund or whoever. Antony is legit a shit version of like Andros Townsend. He wouldn't even start for Luton, he should be playing for QPR or Middlesbrough. Antony will almost certainly end up in Turkey on a free transfer as they're the only clubs who pay big wages to mediocrity.
This whole Torres Champions League narrative has been boring for quite some time now. He didn’t score the winner, Chelsea were already heading through on away goals. There’s a reason why they had everyone in Chelsea’s box when the ball got hooked up to Torres, and it wasn’t because they were over zealous in trying to get a winner and avoid extra time.
It really is. And to change the rules and say it includes his time at Chelsea also is cheeky. He's already made some contributions this season even if he hasn't quite blown us away so he shouldn't be anywhere near this list.
He's been a game changer for us in some games. The problem with him is no one knows what he is a player so no one can expect anything. He is not an assist king or goal scorer so fans don't know how to read him@@marzipanmonkey
as an arsenal fan, i actually agree with 100% of what Buvey was saying. However, that doesnt mean he should be on the list. He has only been here half a season
He definitely should be top 5, at least most of the flops actually tried but it didn't work out for them, Ndombele has a lot of talent but terrible attitude & work ethic.
Auba was a loan, so low stakes I guess. It did seem like one of those moves that was just never going to work as soon as you heard it though, and it played out that way.
The problem with having players who is still active in the club the flopped in is, they can turn it around. Anyone remember John Stones first 2-3 seasons at city? Players like havertz & Antony can still turn it around (unlikely though)
They got a soft spot for him because he's important to the England squad. I understand if they think he's over-hated because people overdo it sometimes. But he's definitely a terrible transfer.
My absolute favourite part of this is Rory mentions Torres to Chelsea has one of the worst signings ever, like he brings it up, and then immediately starts arguing about how actually Torres contributed to some big wins, to then go back to his original point. That’s not a dig, I love Rory but this was like Rory distilled into one moment
Fabregas was better, but can't really think of 5 better players like Miles said. I think he just said that without thinking it through and then couldn't bring himself to walk it back LOL.
A small suggestion lads for future podcasts: rather than spending half the podcast discussing what the criteria is, just set the criteria and explain it at the start of the podcast and then decide what players to include based on the criteria :)
If Havertz is on the list then so is Caicedo. Why there are no mentions of Cucurella, Ndombelle, Pulisic, Seb Haller, Benteke, Robinho, Ziyech, Moise Kean, Koulibaly, Baba Rahman, and Claudio Bravo? And Drinkwater who actually only drank water at Chelsea.

Miles calling Nicholas Pepe a match winner is one of the worst takes I’ve heard
Loved it, but Miles need to chill and not talk over everyone at times
City fan. How our Mangala signing wasn’t even mentioned I don’t know. Most expensive defender in British history at the time and was awful.
Good debut against Chelsea as well, then went so badly wrong . Bizzare
Jo's probably a good shout from your lot too
The di Maria transfer is so interesting with hindsight.
United and Chelsea should own this list after the last decade.
Haven't watched vid yet but Antony pound for pound got to be the worst signing in prem history
Torres always will be number one. Imagine prime Messi suddenly changes club and started playing like Morata 😂
Andy Carrol same transfer window, the big signing to replace Torres and ended up being well Andy Carrol.
Torres has been world class at one point, i don't think you can put him ahead of a player who cost 80mill and had scored no more than 20 career goals
lukaku to chelsea ? thats worse than the torres one for me , never saw torres slander the club but lukaku doing interviews slagging chelsea off , alexis sanchez to man utd ,
shevchenko won the ballond'or and chelsea signed him , scored 2 goals lol
By far as well, I don't even believe a player as bad as Antony has even cost £30million in the EPL. If Antony cost £50million he'd still be the worst but £80million is beyond a joke. He is Championship level and would not start a game for a single team in the EPL.
He is also likely to blame for the Sancho saga, Sancho must have been fuming watching Antony get games knowing that the guy couldn't lace his boots.
Flav and Buvey: Maguire for 80M isn't the player's fault, that's on United.
Also them: Pepe's fee is relevant it's a transfer video
Never forget Andy Carroll cost more than Luis Suarez...
for who?@Romulan85
The worst part is 3 more million could have got aguero
Because there was a bidding war between spurs as well, and time is ticking for replacement
Carroll was not very good for Liverpool but we signed suarez and Carroll as a pair to replace torres. Suarez more then made up for the joint amount spent
Andy Carroll would have been a great signing...in 1978.

Veron x2 is worse than at least 4 of that top 5
Veron also, Veron cost I think £30million in 2001, I think Zidane only cost like £37million then and was the most expensive player ever.
Would be like spending about £125million on him in 2023, pound for pound in the era cost more than Pogba and was probably worse.
@@celticbarry9877 Zidane cost close to £50million and would cost around £160million today adjusted for inflation.
Replace lukaku with sancho
Why are we in 2024 still acting like Torres wasn't awful from the 2010 World Cup? It wasn't an overnight thing from Liverpool to Chelsea, the only good game he had in the 10/11 season for Liverpool was against Chelsea
and this “he won us the European cup” it was the 4th goal in a 4-2 win
yea he was going downhill in his last season in Liverpool, and that is why they let him go. these lot have weird takes sometimes

Rice could be up there too.
Saliba is the best Arsenal have had since Henry.
Odegaard could easily be better especially given his current form

The worst take on this is saying Enzo is rubbish. He's currently having a great run for Chelsea, and he's added goals to his game which is what Chelsea have been dying for. Goals from midfield and not relying on defenders from set pieces.
Enzo being on the list is invalid if caicedo isn’t higher than him
@@Deathmare235 Caicedo has Quietly just been improving week in week out. I dont think either of them deserve to be in the list just because of the "Fee's". He's been playing at a decent level (still room for improvement obviously), lets not forget that nearly the entire dressing room had never played together 1.5/2 years ago.

Agreed. For the money and the drop off in quality Torres simply has to be somewhere in the Top 10.

How is Pogba not on Adam's list, sold for free, bought back for 90 mil, big expectations, played well 1 in 10 games, bad attitude and bad presence for other players and then left on a free. Oh and he was on massive wages too, potentially number 1 lol.
Miles missed the assignment. He seemed shocked that fees were part of the decision making.
Decent list but a fair bit of recency bias, especially for signings in the last 18 months.
Some older clangers that deserve a mention include:
Shevchenko to Chelsea
Jeffers to Arsenal
Andre Santos to Arsenal
Ali Dia (maybe too obvious and it was a free but has to be number 1 for the sheer insanity and embarrassment of it)
Thomas Brolin to Leeds
Aquilani to Liverpool
Rodwell to Sunderland
Mangala to City
Berahino to Stoke
Taibi to United
Kleberson to United

@KTK44 football is a game of very fine margins. Bellamy 's form cost us atleast ten points and we were 8 from safety. One player can relegate a club, look at Leicester last season - they could score all day, but Rodgers fell out with Shmiechel and played Danny Ward in goal who is not even a tenth of a player and as a result they couldn't keep a shot out for love nor money and went down. Its a game of fine margins and often a player is that margin
Watching this 8months on……. Buvey and Rory’s take on Havertz has aged like milk!!! They are honking views…..
When Radamel Falcao signed for United i legit thought they’d win a treble… One of the best strikers in Europe at the time
Rory genuinely has negative ball knowledge. Saka has been poor this season? Is he mad? Havertz has only been at the club for 6 months, give the man time to grow, I don't get the agenda against him being so heavy. Podcast mics need to be more expensive I swear
