This is such good timing, for the last week I have been debating buying dragon ball and yesterday I ordered the dragon ball z box set then today Ryan releases this video 😂
I randomly stumbled on volume 1 of Dragon Ball (a French version of it) on a shelf at a Wal-Mart when I was a kid, and decided to buy it some 20 years ago. Little did I know that series would change my life in terms of my liking into Japanese culture and anime in general. Over the year, I kept buying new volumes until I eventually got all 42. It's amazing when you find a series you know nothing about that just happen to be very good.
i watched this video and it made me really interested so i finally read dragon ball and finished it in 3-4 days and i can’t wait to start dragon ball z
Got into DB a while back, I loved it for its gags and fighting, I only watched the show, never really wanting to read the manga, but after hearing how good it was, I wanted to see for myself, I went to Amazon and ordered vol.1 of the VIZ paperback edition, the ones in this video, but I ordered the singles of them, not the entire box set, and after my first read I found it better than the anime, even though it was the least censored out of the 7 versions of English there were and some moments were pretty inappropriate, I got used to it cause it was originally supposed to be a gag manga that turned into a fighting manga, it was a great read, writing this ik I want all 16, so I’m ordering vol.2 and vol.3, and I’m betting they’ll be great reads.
This man took 3 days to learn what took me 2 years of watching TH-cam clips. Props😂 Edit: I just finished the video and you should definitely read the DBZ volumes! I can't wait to see your reaction to them!
Currently collecting all the 3 in 1s of Dragonball, loved the original Dragonball and Z anime as a kid but rereading the early arcs now its weird how much I forgot about it. And yes volume 1 is incredibly pervy haha
My guy, you're way too underrated as a mangatuber. I also noticed that you've gained somewhere around 900 subs since you uploaded this video, keep up the good work man! And yes, a DragonBall Z video would be very appreciated.
I can not wait to see you read dragon ball z. It is so great and it will be awesome to see a first time reader on it. As a side note, dragon ball through to z has amazing panelling which makes it so nice and clear to read.
I feel like I'm the only person in the world who likes to read manga slowly and takes like 2 hours to finish a typical volume. I'm always so surprised when someone says that they read through a certain volume in 20 minutes for example.
I use to read like 7 books less than a day. When use to check them out at my school library lol now that I buy manga I take my time since mangas are expensive and I don't want to wait until the other set is deliver.
I just arrived on your channel, first video in fact and I found it super interesting. while I was listening to your video I went to see how many subscribers you had and what! only 3k? at first i thought you had like a few hundred thousand seeing the quality of the videos. In any case, great video continues like this!
I feel like the originals are a bit underrated and they are great in my opinion! Z is amazing but I feel like the latter half of Z isn't as good. For me the show peaks between... (spoilers ahead) Late Red ribbon army arc - End of Freeza arc
For me dragonball z started getting iffy with majin buu. I actually appreciated the Cell arc because it brought back the red ribbon army and all of the androids felt nostalgic when you remember android 8. I'd argue Cell's arc was my favorite personally because so much happens with the characters. Buu had some great moments and I appreciate them bringing some of the mystical stuff from the original dragonball back, buu himself wasn't a well thought out villain and I felt Toriyama lost his touch with the characters. Makes sense because apparently Toriyama admitted he was basically miserable when writing the buu arc because he just wanted the series to end.
@@FullMetalNull Don't get me wrong, I really like the cell arc, especially the time travel stuff. But it just didn't have the same exhilarating, addictive feel anymore. It didn't feel like we raised the stakes(which is due to doing it too quickly in previous arc, went from strongest fighters on earth to strongest fighter in the universe in basically one arc. So then they had to invent stronger beings but it just didn't feel like they were stronger, at this point they should be destroying planets from regular fighting but they don't.)
in the manga its not split up..dbz just is chapter 195...but in the west they split it up in 2002 for sales i guess by putting in a z making it seem like its own series to appeal to idiots
Yeah, well, at one point, I had the whole thing, too. And of course I read it all, too. It's true, that you could read it technically all in one go It's just that good.
Dragon ball and dragon ball z have such different feels between each other they barely feel like the same series. People shouldn't say one is better than the other, it's like comparing bananas and apples (it really is subject to people's opinion)
Dragon Ball at the beginning is very different from the end of Dragon Ball Z, but if you read it all back to back you can feel the tone and structure of the story slowly changing into what it eventually became. I remember seeing King Piccolo squat down and start screaming for a full minute to power up and I was like, bam, that’s it. It’s finally crossed the threshold into being all about the action and much less about the adventure. Not that that’s a bad thing, I actually love DB and DBZ equally and choose to think of them as one long story, since they weren’t originally made to be separate series.
If you say it like that, yes, but if you read it all back to back you can feel the tone and structure of the story slowly becoming a serious one. The King Piccolo saga one a nutshell.
I remember buying those black&white manga's in the late 90's after school ones a month at a local Tabacco/magazine store. got home read it in one go. Good times. i have the smaller books with the green covers.
Good work on getting through the whole thing in such a short time. I did a similar thing with Ranma 1/2 a couple of years back. That's also a great martial arts/comedy series
I think a lot of people who say DBZ is better probably saw that anime first as a kid. But the whole series is good, just different at first. DB started more comedic, coming off Toriyama's gag manga experience and was targeted at a slightly older audience than his previous Dr. Slump. It wasnt an immediate hit in Japan either but it became more popular in the first tournament arc due to focusing more on action and less on adventuring. It should also be said that the original manga wasnt divided into DB and DBZ. That division came from the anime which happened because the anime ratings werent great and Toriyama's editor attributed it to the producer who also worked on the Dr. Slump anime. So they replaced the producer and rebooted the anime with a sequel series. But the more serious tone and action oriented story started way before that with King Piccolo, maybe even with the second tournament.
i think "man bounced off the panel" is a reference to kid gokus "scissors paper rock" move on yamcha, sending yamcha flying towards the panel and breaking it. am i correct?
I enjoy this, really cool to see someone who knows nothing about Dragon Ball go on that journey and slowly become a fan. Laughed when he put up that Roshi panel, super nostalgia.
Would’ve liked if you remarked on specific events in dragonball and what you liked/thought about it, and any theories you’ve had. This was basically, “I read dragon ball. It’s good.”
I loved to see a review from a new fan, most new gen fans dont give dragon ball a chance because its a trend now to diss it for naruto which both are amazing. So im glad to see you pick it up I actually know a ton of anime fans who havent watched it either. Also dragon ball and DBZ manga wise have different things going for them dragon ball is a little lighter an has a better balance of action and story telling then Z is kinda like a faster paced adventure.
This is my favorite series in all of fiction. I do have nostalgia but even so it's personally still my favorite today. I'm glad you enjoy it and I'd love to see a Dragon Ball Z video. But after you finish all of it you should experience more of the series with the anime, movies etc.
Glad you had a fun experience with it, hope you also enjoy dbz! It's interesting to see a review without nostalgia :D I have watched the anime as a child, but my memory about the whole plot is not the best, so maybe I should reconsider reading the manga now :) That boxset looks really pretty, though I have the first volume of a sort of massive editions from a few years ago, so I should continue with that :')
i haven't read the manga but over the past two months i randomly decided to watch dragon ball since i have never seen an 80's anime, and i ended up loving it. since i enjoyed it so much i decided to watch all of z including the filler and i was blown away at how good it was. the anime had pretty bad pacing but i didn't care, there's nothing better than ripped dudes screaming and blowing shit up. i even liked gt and super as well. the dragon ball franchise is my new favorite shonen franchise
I'm glad you read this and DBZ. I've read both over 4 times and still love it! I prefer and enjoy Dragonball more. DBZ is action packed and cool but DB is fun and hilarious.
why did he get the DBZ box set packet thing in his DB box set. I have both and they have different one in each. The DB one says KNOW IT ALL and a picture of Goku as a kid

I think the reason that dragon ball actually feels like it was a legitimate weekly comic is because akira toriyama didn't write the story line ahead of time
I'm really glad you're enjoying Dragon Ball! This is my 2nd favorite manga of all time , and it's good to see you having a good time reading it. Tho I understand some minor "gripes" you have with it, which are perfectly fine, it's nice to see someone be able to see Dragon Ball for what it is, without big nostalgia glasses. And it's cool to see that someone who knew nothing about the series, be able to enjoy something I love as well. Also if you wanna review another manga, I recommend Mob Psycho 100, the art isn't that "great", but I think it compliments the story, and the story is really captivating, it's also my favorite manga of all time.

This is such good timing, for the last week I have been debating buying dragon ball and yesterday I ordered the dragon ball z box set then today Ryan releases this video 😂
woaahh crazy XD
Idk who were those "fans" that kept saying DBZ is far better than DB
Which is bullshit
the fated golden tinfoil unraveling
dragon ball fr amazing, was my first box set and i really want the second one except its like 200 dollars now
keep an eye out for deals! Got mine for under 120
@@CaptainRAIAN yessir!
Really cool seeing someone experience Dragon Ball with like 0.5% prior knowledge! Awesome video man!
This is going to be an interesting reaction considering I also didn’t watch Dragon Ball until I was an adult also.
i watched this video and it made me really interested so i finally read dragon ball and finished it in 3-4 days and i can’t wait to start dragon ball z
This is amazing, your input is great. Please do Dragon Ball Z. You could make separate videos on every saga.
how does this guy only have only 3k subs? this is quality content right here>
LOL Thanks my guy!
When you read “is this finally the end of Goku?!” That was latest chapter out. With it being a monthly series Toriyama hadn’t even thought of Z.
Dang brooooo I never have time anymore to read that much manga! Also def love db and dbz!!!
Only had to quit my job to find the time XD

Props😂
Edit: I just finished the video and you should definitely read the DBZ volumes! I can't wait to see your reaction to them!
This is gonna be a large quality youtube channel and I'm glad I found it now before it blows up. Great video can't wait for Z
Currently collecting all the 3 in 1s of Dragonball, loved the original Dragonball and Z anime as a kid but rereading the early arcs now its weird how much I forgot about it. And yes volume 1 is incredibly pervy haha
love to see the panels in the video its like bringing us in the journey
This was so great getting to see someone experience my favourite series for the first time, can't wait for Z!
Amazing video, love this type of video. So interesting and entertaining. Also you should do a part 2
Thanks so much!
Sameeee, happy to find a person like me
I just arrived on your channel, first video in fact and I found it super interesting. while I was listening to your video I went to see how many subscribers you had and what! only 3k? at first i thought you had like a few hundred thousand seeing the quality of the videos. In any case, great video continues like this!
I personally Like DB more than Z
As a Dragonball fan since I can remember, sometimes I wish I could forget everything about it just to live once again that magic that the series is
I feel like the originals are a bit underrated and they are great in my opinion! Z is amazing but I feel like the latter half of Z isn't as good. For me the show peaks between... (spoilers ahead)
Late Red ribbon army arc - End of Freeza arc
7:46 It used to be published in a weekly manga, so that is why. In Japan, you would get a chapter each week.
I can't wait for you to review Dragon Ball Z, it gets even better.
in the manga its not split up..dbz just is chapter 195...but in the west they split it up in 2002 for sales i guess by putting in a z making it seem like its own series to appeal to idiots
@@razkable I see your point here, but I don't think idiots is the correct word here, no need to be so cynical.
@Jonathon Rincones Ok asshole, some people like different things. Imo DBZ is better than OG DB.
@Jonathon Rincones OG is way better. Buu Saga and Cell are overrated. Saiyajin Saga is great though.
@@razkable shut up jones
Just found your channel and loved this. Subscribed! Would love more full series reviews like this with updates as you read them.
Hi, I'm a new manga youtuber and I just wanted to know if you have any pointers on making manga videos
Am new too try talking about manga that you enjoyed and are mainstream to start of like berserk one piece naruto
Welcome to Manga TH-cam! My advice is to make videos that you want to make! :D No point in doing it if you're not having fun!
I’m excited for you to meet Gohan! Especially in the Cell saga
Now do the big 3. LOL
You do know the big three are no longer the big three they were the big three for like less then 5 years.
It changed in the king piccolo arc what are you talking about lol
I remember buying those black&white manga's in the late 90's after school ones a month at a local Tabacco/magazine store. got home read it in one go. Good times. i have the smaller books with the green covers.
Blasphemy to not have experienced Dragon Ball as your introduction to shonen anime lol
Just kidding but for real how did you collect so much manga before DB 😭
XD crazy right?
Good work on getting through the whole thing in such a short time. I did a similar thing with Ranma 1/2 a couple of years back. That's also a great martial arts/comedy series
No body says "oh I watch dragon ball" they say "ohi watch dragon ball z" dragon ball is not mainstream, dbz is.
The entire franchise is main steam you idiot

I actually think Dragon Ball is better than Z.
I agree
0:35 I don't want to start the debate again, but Saitama doesn't even come close to Goku

@@Lackifallby power and experience too
i think "man bounced off the panel" is a reference to kid gokus "scissors paper rock" move on yamcha, sending yamcha flying towards the panel and breaking it. am i correct?
Probably shouldnt get in to super, its pretty shit...
kamehamaha its a master roshi thing that passed on to goku and his family and btw thx for the review glad you liked it
Goku does beat saitama

So... you have chosen death!
I'm glad you enjoyed it and I hope you continue. Even with nostalgiatinted glasses I can say it's solid.
“i didn’t read that much” HUH?💀 3 vols is a lot-
I enjoy this, really cool to see someone who knows nothing about Dragon Ball go on that journey and slowly become a fan.
Laughed when he put up that Roshi panel, super nostalgia.
Whoever told you Dragon Ball Z is better than Dragon Ball is wrong.
Would’ve liked if you remarked on specific events in dragonball and what you liked/thought about it, and any theories you’ve had. This was basically, “I read dragon ball. It’s good.”
OG DB > DBZ
I loved to see a review from a new fan, most new gen fans dont give dragon ball a chance because its a trend now to diss it for naruto which both are amazing. So im glad to see you pick it up I actually know a ton of anime fans who havent watched it either. Also dragon ball and DBZ manga wise have different things going for them dragon ball is a little lighter an has a better balance of action and story telling then Z is kinda like a faster paced adventure.
Dragon ball is better than dragon ball z
Kuririn is his japanese name. In the English dub of the anime the call him Krillin
I did that too in December. Since I never finished OG Dragon Ball but now I'm all caught up. I also got the collection in December for $80.
It's interesting to see a review without nostalgia :D
I have watched the anime as a child, but my memory about the whole plot is not the best, so maybe I should reconsider reading the manga now :)
That boxset looks really pretty, though I have the first volume of a sort of massive editions from a few years ago, so I should continue with that :')
Not even 6k subs? This dude is amazing and deserves so much more
i haven't read the manga but over the past two months i randomly decided to watch dragon ball since i have never seen an 80's anime, and i ended up loving it. since i enjoyed it so much i decided to watch all of z including the filler and i was blown away at how good it was. the anime had pretty bad pacing but i didn't care, there's nothing better than ripped dudes screaming and blowing shit up. i even liked gt and super as well. the dragon ball franchise is my new favorite shonen franchise
I'm glad you read this and DBZ. I've read both over 4 times and still love it! I prefer and enjoy Dragonball more. DBZ is action packed and cool but DB is fun and hilarious.
Love your channel man 💙 You will not be disappointed by Dragonball Z, can't wait to see your next video
Thanks so much!
6:05 it’s the first Kamehameha wave EVER.
why did he get the DBZ box set packet thing in his DB box set. I have both and they have different one in each. The DB one says KNOW IT ALL and a picture of Goku as a kid
I want every human on this planet that does not know a thing about Dragon Ball to do a video like this
Me too
As someone who grew up watching the dragon ball, z and now super anime, it's really nice and it's makes me very happy to see people who are reading or watching it for the first time, and see what their opinion is. I'm glad you liked it and I'm looking forward to the next video.
I think the reason that dragon ball actually feels like it was a legitimate weekly comic is because akira toriyama didn't write the story line ahead of time
Yessss!!! We need you to react DBZ I'm so excited.
Yeah!!
this intro was so damn funny i was thinking of buying this waiting for sale
