I believe if you put the piezo piece on the blade, it would actually generate more electricity, since the blade has more vibrations, and piezo turns vibrations into electricity.
Piezoelectric turns mechanical compression into energy. It might be more efficient to leave it as it is because it receives more leverage and thus more compression. Not sure, though.
I was always fascinated by the Goshiki-Zakura-Ohashi-Bridge in Tokyo which generates its own power for lights through vibration of the bridge by traffic.

Hi, sir. Could u give some opinion? I'm doing this project. I harvest the vertical force exerted by vehicles or pedestrians to convert piezoelectricity into electricity to power up the light. But I found that it is hard to charge the battery as the current generated is too low. Do u have any suggestion to improve the charging process other than increase the number of piezo connected in parallel? Besides should I put capacitor or converter (buck/boost) before the battery due to the fluctuating voltage generated?
To get more current and voltage, you have to use multiple piezoelectric discs based on your need. But, each piezoelectric disc should have it's own rectifier. Then only, you can connect them in series and parallel to get your desired output. If you don't have rectifiers for each piezo, the power generated by one piezo disc will be consumed by another piezo disc and you can not get the maximum output.
@@SKILFULLIFE thank you Sir for clarifying that each pzts should have its own rectifier. But each rectifier will cause voltage drop n make more loss. Is it important to use the spring? Could I just replace it with hot glue?
@@larrykrepp7428 hi, I'm doing the same project. Is ur project successful? I have been trying to charge the battery using the piezo for weeks but the current generated is really too low to charge the battery
Why did you need a bridge rectifier to light an LED which is a diode in itself? I would have thought you could skip the B/R and use the LED for rectification be it only half wave. Skipping the B/R should cut down on the losses in the circuit and allow a greater charge to the capacitor.

To generate enough current from a piezo, it needs a continuous mechanical compression and decompression. Chair cushion can not give enough frequent of mechanical force continuously. From a piezo disc, you can harvest less than 50mA and about 3V. To charge a powerbank, you need minimum 1000mA and 5.2V, So, you may need 25 - 30 piezoelectric discs in one row in series and you need 2 rows in parallel to get more than 5V. Note, all piezoelectric discs should be vibrated at the same time.
Actually, when you press and bend it one direction, the current flow is positive. When you press and bend it opposite direction, the current flow is negative.
It only generates electricity once pressed for a little amount of time, and then when released it also generates electricity in am opposite current direction, and again only for a short period of time. In other words it wont generates electricity once pressed for a long time, instead you need to release it.
