- The story from Day 1 of a long weekend doing some Central PA overlanding with Tyler and his Trailhawk Cherokee checking out the forest roads and towers in Moshannon State Forest and the nuclear jet engine testing bunkers in the Quehanna Wild Area. We found a few surprises along the way that were pretty cool too! Annnnnd it rained the whole time lol.

I live nearby and go there every week (Quehanna) I know a few good mud spots, done quite a few videos from there.
broke my offroad cherry on hoover nelson this past sunday after a good rain. such a fun little trail.
Nice! I’d like to do it in the rain going north uphill at some point.
That looks like a Doppler weather radar tower. We have one near my house
yeah maybe it's a NEXRAD? That wouldn't be FAA Air Traffic though
For the two bunkers it has been something that I've questioned as well, however in the late 60's when they were dismantling the jet engine test sites two workers were killed at the north bunker while cutting down a jet fuel tank. I have supposed that the efforts to dismantle and bury things were significantly reduced to prevent more injury as part of the dismantling. so the bury of the one and not the other COULD have been just because there were two less people working on it. But there were also instances of fires and vandalism and Radioactive waste clean up for years as recently as 2006 or 2011? and ultimately with being so much radioactive material and activity in the area it has been monitored often. So the real reason I have not found.. Jon mentioned you would be out in that area and If I could have gotten off work or had a functional jeep I would have joined you, and You could have some "local" tours. There are some pretty neat places I can take you.. (but not send you 😉 )
Yeah apparently they only buried that on in 2010ish. The real hot cells were across the street at the “restricted nature area” off reactor road.
There is one of those giant soccer balls on Story road in Dansville, NY.
Cool! Dansville, NY is where I was born 😎
Man these are my favourite types of trips where the objective is just explore and check out trails. Trail repairs, got to love them. Also, you’ve replaced Teddy and having a buddy with a trail hawk haha. Great video Tim!
Always keep the Trailhawk friends. They’re the real ones lol
Looked like an awesome day!!
It was! So much more to see there too.
Looking forward to visiting it myself now. Thank you!
It looks like it was a great time! I look forward to eventually heading out on a trail with you!
For sure!!
So glad you got to see this area. Hoover Nelson is a really fun one. Sorry I wasn't able to come show you around, you were super close to Mark's family land and a lot of stuff we know really well. There's another old splash dam further down stream at a confluence that is pretty cool. The water crossing at 19:50 is exactly what you said, the bridge was out for a while and I believe before it was replaced, that it was pretty sketchy. I know some day we'll go up there and it'll be blocked off but I'm happy it's still open and used! Sucks you had to see Table Falls at dusk. it's a really peaceful nice spot in the day! Bacon cheddar bacon cheddar burgers looked delicious. I'm needing some good campfire food rn!
Should def get back out there with Mark soon too 🤙
Great video as always. Looks like you had a decent trip despite the rain. Pretty cool to see you in my area, as I live about 30 min from Quehanna. You need to come back down and get ahold of me (seriously). I will take ya down a good trail or 2 and show you some more cool areas. There is so much more around here. By the way, you went down Hoover-Nelson, it was closed beginning of summer because of that big tree across it and we heard it was not going to be opened back up. I was pleasantly surprised to see it was back open. That road is my testing road for new stuff on the JK. And it is a lot of fun going back up it in a good heavy rain.
Yeah I def want to get back there in the rain again 😅 that tree was huge!
@DarksideOffRoad indeed. A friend and I tried to move it, but it was too much. Glad someone got out there and cleared it up.
Love the trail exploring but you gotta help your trail hawk buddy get a lift or swap it for a wrangler lol.
haha yeah, he wants one! He found one he likes but hasn't pulled the trigger. He had a TJ before this :)
Did he not like the TJ? Thats what I’m looking for next is a tj to build just for trail riding. I had a 2012 jk and loved it but being young and dumb sold it and have regretted it ever since.
@@zacbell1559 it had a cracked frame. Opted for more comfort and such with the new vehicle.
Can’t blame him. keep hammering him about that lift they look pretty sweet jacked up!
Looks familiar 😮, lol good stuff man
Such a great area.
Have you been to Rock Run?
My son says i should leave a comment due to we have a camp in the area
So cool! Great area for a camp 👌
