This made my day. I get what Joel is saying. I feel the same way. There is absolutely nothing better than a brook trout stream, the colors, the beauty and of course the trout. I could care less about size or the amount of fish i do catch. Its the experience. It's what I live for.
I try to explain that to my wife when I drive 3 hrs one way to spend a whole day bushwhacking some overgrown trout stream, chasing 6" brookies and I come home having not landed a single one. She always asks, "You're not upset that you didn't catch any?" And I say, "Nope. Just being out there is what it's all about." Pretty sure she thinks I'm nuts.
One simply does not walk into helm's deep... er, mordor...😂 I love how you're able to capture more than just fishing. It's moments like that in the camper that make these films so special.
I'm not a fisherman but I enjoyed your video. I was researching backpacking in the Quehanna and found it. Your camera work is awesome. It really captures the essence of being there. Thanks.
I've been fishing ANF since I was 10, I'm 45 now. Just started Quehanna/Moshannon area about 10 yrs ago. I've recently introduced my daughters boyfriend into it. I give him a new spot and which species are in it. He goes alone. And when he tells me about it, its like a time machine to myself. Something about these little fish and where they live does something to a few people that they can't shake or explain. Seeing it happen to someone else from the beginning is one of the most satisfying things I've done.
Thank's for the peaceful moment with the nicest anadromous specie and let's hope for the future of, our specie, that this activity remain possible for the kids of our kids. Thank you guys
This video is what fishing really is. Sometimes it came be tuff, here in NC it's super tuff. That's why I do it tho. I don't want fly fishing to be easy all the time. I like to solve the puzzle, to fool a wild trout into taking my fly. Some youtube channels put out fake videos, they will fish for 2 weeks and make it look like it all happened in one day. I think that's why you guys are my favorite youtube channel it's real what you catch. And the filming and editing is second to none. My one grip is you don't make enough videos! Lol You guys friendship is something else, trust me a fishing buddy is hard to come by.Thanks again for another awesome video. Nate
Thanks for the kind words Nate! We greatly appreciate it! And we are hoping to put out more videos. Just finding the time to fish is the hard part haha
Absolutely love that area as well. It's always been my go-to for the first brookie trip of the year - endless possibilities! For tight quarters brookie fishing, y'all should really tenkara a shot - you'll never need the reel or the line :) and the rods are SO much more sensitive. Scott at Featherman Creations off 255 going towards the Moshannon is a solid spot, Scott's a good dude as well.
A buddy and I had an off grid camp in north central PA for over 40 years. No idea how many hundreds of native brookies we caught and released. My pal passed a couple years ago and the camps been sold. Best times of my life. Sure do miss my buddy and those mountains.
That’s awesome to hear about the camp and I’m very sorry to hear about your friend. Hopefully you can still make it up there and cherish the memories. Thanks for watching
Born and raised in Clearfield County... such amazing trout streams. Fond memories of native brook trout streams with my dad, using some worms we dug up in the yard... watching now from South Carolina, where I've lived for the past 15 years.... I miss that beautiful area up there. I have a 2 hr drive to the mountains of SC/GA for the nearest trout fishing to me. Your videos are expertly done and leave a fond longing in my heart to make it back up to PA someday. Keep up the great work... Love the videos.
Thank you for the kind words, my friend and for watching. Hope you’re able to make it back up here one day and relive the memories from your childhood. Thanks again.
When I was a kid I thought fishing was for the old men who were generally boring or unassuming. As I grew older I realized that fishing is for the stoic, patient, and passionate people on this earth. As I’ve grown older still, I’ve found those traits within myself and in others that truly understand what fishing is about and I couldn’t be more thankful for the friends I’ve made along the way. Listening to your conversations reminds me so much of them; one minute we’re arguing knots and the next we compare mental notes on salt or paprika in exactly what it does to a certain dish cooked different ways. I love what fishing has given me, and the only thing I’d wish differently is that I would’ve started sooner.
Great to see this! Thank you Caleb and Joel! Been watching this Channel for a few years and enjoy People that enjoy small Trout steams. Have one near my house and am more attracted to it than the stocked rivers around me,
You guys are killing it! So happy that you are back to consistent uploads. Video quality is unmatched when it comes to fly fishing videos. Thanks for taking us along
awesome video as always!! love listening to you guys talk. Very Nice narrative. thank you guys for sharing your love for Pa streams and our native trout.
Great video as always guys! I appreciate you taking us along. You make me feel like I’m right there with you and that’s quite special, because time and life has not allowed me to hit the streams here in New Mexico as yet this year, so thanks again!
Thanks for another great video! You guys always do such a great job capturing the beauty around you and beautiful fish (I’m partial and think there isn’t a more beautiful fish than a native brookie), but I think my favorite part is that you do such a good job capturing two friends on the river enjoying each other’s company--that makes for a good day on the river no matter what. Then catching beautiful brook trout is just icing on the cake! Thanks again for sharing! You guys always do a great job!
I was born and raised about 6 miles from Quehanna Wild Area on the medix run side. When i was young the road was gated and you could not go out there. I worked out there for 10 years for Piper Aircraft. Loved it, nice ride out and back. Every year someone gets lost out there.
Just came across your channel today, this was a beautiful video. I feel the same way about brookies too, almost hard to describe the feeling. Keep up the good work!
I say that was a very fun trip for the memory books, you film things exactly like it happens, there's no guarantee on what will happen on the water, that's the beauty of the outdoors. Just being there is the prize, catching a brookie in there home is the bonus. Absolutely love watching you guys, looking forward to watching more. Tight lines.
I absolutely love the Quehanna Wild Area. My family has had a camp up there for decades and it truly is a magical place. Unfortunately, I think a lot of the small streams have been taking a beating from the continuous low water hot summers followed by low snowfall winters. I've really been seeing numbers and size of native brookies decrease up there and its a shame. Hopefully we have a cool wet summer to help them out this year, but it's not likely
Yes I can definitely agree with your observation on that. So far we have had a good set spring and let’s hope that continues into the summer months. Thanks for watching
The fishing should start picking up here with the warmer weather on these smaller streams. There are time when I ask myself where all the fish went then others where every rock has a brookie behind it! My favorite type of fishing. Great video!
Hey guys awesome video just loved the last place you were at was very beautiful. But I do agree with you Joel about brookies they are a beautiful gem no matter what the size is and a fish full of colors that can make a great day of fish. Great video keep it up guys.
Like the man says... Pennsylvania gold ! Stunning little fish and perfectly in proportion with their habitat. If only we had them in my streams I wander in, I'm over in the UK so no brookies v v sadly! Keep up the good work and the rod bent & and btw take it easy blowing the fly powder around man, its sure not good stuff to get in your lungs. Think asbestosis, a similar deal.
First stream looked familiar. There hasnt been a stream in the wild area that i havent caught a trout seemingly under ever nook and crany in a stream. Cant believe you struggled to find so much. Defintely need to come back in late spring early summer and explore more. Some sections of mosquito are loaded with big ones. Great video none the less! Tons of time in production in this video im sure.
Thanks guys appreciate you watching. Yes I have fished up there before and have crushed fish, sometimes you have days like we did, but the fish are just the bonus. I just love the peace and solitude up there
Another great video, showing that it isn’t always fish after fish, some days are just better than others. And that’s ok! What length rods and weights do you guys usually use on those little streams?
When were you gents there? I just got home from an adventure fishing there today and saw this upload. Pretty neat to see what y’all do different in the same places.

I try to explain that to my wife when I drive 3 hrs one way to spend a whole day bushwhacking some overgrown trout stream, chasing 6" brookies and I come home having not landed a single one. Well said. The privilege of being there with Nature in all her splendor.

I agree with @catchreleaserepeat. I still struggle with the balance between fishing and good B roll stuff. You're doing it right!

When you park and hook one. It's gonna be a good day.
Always is haha. Thanks for watching
Fantastic video guys! I too would rather catch a 3" native brookie than a 3 pound brown! Thanx!
Thank you and we couldn’t agree more
Royal Coachman is the ticket for native brookies.
Indeed it’s a great fly. Thanks for watching
Those are state forest makers not game lands, sorry for the nitpicking. Great video as always, look forward to more.

Thanks for watching. Here we are using a 10ft 2wt. We like the extra reach when it allows to stay back so we don’t cast a shadow over the stream
Nice filmography. Only thing I catch w the bow and arrow cast is my thumb!
Thanks for watching, but keep practicing you will get the hang of it
When were you gents there? I just got home from an adventure fishing there today and saw this upload. Pretty neat to see what y’all do different in the same places.

Saw my Man. But you have seen,,,.
Where's the ford?!
Needed 4 wheel drive haha
You never say where you are fishing, why do you have to do so here?
This area is so huge and vast with so many streams it would take a lifetime to explore.
