Seeing your fabric collection makes me feel like a pathological fabric hoarder. Sigh. Each time I get the itch to sew I face actual paralysis trying to choose between my pattern stash ( a whole separate story) and then the obscene amount of fabric I have accumulated. That dress is going to be gorgeous on you. The color is lovely with your complexion and hair.

Based on my own experience with southern "winter" events, I may have gone with a sleeveless dress and matching shrug combo as "sleeves." That color is so beautiful, green is a hard color for me but that one is so rich!

I just found your videos today and I'm impressed with your ability to relate your sewing skills in a way that makes me want to get busy sewing! Love the room! And I'll just add that I made a happy connection to the way you have projects which are waiting for you. I do that too!

If you flip a pattern piece over to wrong side up you can have all the tops of the pattern pieces going in the same direction so the knap is going in the same direction. Sometimes it matters but not always. And that dress is gorgeous! Helps that you have a great figure also.

Love both your channels! Love your patterns! I also don't keep a fabric stash, hearing that you also doing always makes me happy. We don't have to a huge stash to enjoy sewing. Going and shopping for just the right fabric for a project can be so motivating.

My mom did green velvet for her bridesmaids dresses. My Irish born grandmother (Dad’s mom) wigged! Apparently, in Ireland green dresses at weddings were bad luck. I’m gonna disagree Grandma… Mom & Dad were married for 47 years.

The green is so so nice in person, too! Now I'm trying to settle on how I want to do the skirt...something with a little movement would really let the velvet shine!

Yeah! You’re back.. love the house Renovation and the sewing too! Velvet is such a ‘party’ worthy fabric. 2 years ago I had a work Christmas party Friday and a family wedding on Saturday. Somehow I managed to copy a party dress I have (out grown 😂) and using a tee shirt pattern make 1 black stretch velvet dress and one rose pink version. I have no idea where I found the time? But I love both of those dresses they feel so fancy but so easy to wear too.

Hi, Yeah! A sewing video. I really look forward to seeing what that little velvet number is going to turn out.
I don't know if it's the times, or the country of origin, but to me if the couple want a cocktail style wedding they would have had "Evening Wear" on the invite. That would mean a tuxedo for the gents and a floor length dress with a narrower cut than a ball gown (falling under formal wear e.g. white tie and tails). I sort of know, having heard or learnt about it at some point around the 80's or 90's, that a little fancy black dress, or indeed a little sparkly dress would be an acceptable choice for the ladies. It would still have been black tie all the way for the gents, no colored tie or cumberbund allowed. I wonder how things are nowadays?
My maternal grandmother married up in life, and she became a bit over the top involved with the correct etiquette as a result. She then taught my mother, who is the eldest of her sibling, everything she knew about the subject (and also how to bring the siblings up, as she got lazy when she had a daughter who could do it), and my mother turned around and taught her eldest daughter all the etiquette she knew. Guess who that eldest daughter is? Yep. I know way more about the rules of etiquette in society than what is good for my surroundings. Not that I fault anyone, but because I bore people to snoring with my worthless knowledge. Maybe it's a little lucky that children never happened to my DH and I. Who knows what I might have inflicted on the next generation if we had any.
Thank you for the video. I look forward to the next video from you. Yours, Ann

I'm looking forward to seeing how you handle sweater knits. I've never used them, and I would like to sew some sweaters.
And the cutting table on wheels is brilliant. I saw it in a previous video, but gosh, I just realized I can do that in my studio reno (in progress). Thank you!

Did you use a special knot when changing out serger thread to attach new thread to existing thread? I’ve wondered if there’s a knot that actually less bulky in order to g9 thru the eyes.

Hey Casey …Not sure if my other comment went through.
Is the orange and white top on your mannequin one of your patterns? Love it! Also the white shirt you were wearing on the second day of video that buttoned up the front. …loved that too. Please give me your pattern details for those two items! So glad you’re sewing again.

    • @PatternScout

Hi Jennifer! The orange and white top was a pattern hack of my Vivi blouse pattern and I did a video on that here: th-cam.com/video/iLYFTtSsnYg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=YpStZk11PaB3-fBE
The white button-up top at the end was also a pattern hack of my comfi tee pattern. I don't have a tutorial for that specific top, but I did one that is similar in this video: th-cam.com/video/O_gKik4VIoE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=OQl9ExGQVWSbjjQu
Thanks for watching and making my patterns! :)

It was great seeing you back in your element. I have really enjoyed the renovation videos, but I have missed your sewing. The dress is going to be beautiful. I wanted to ask you a question. I haven't sewn garments before, but I think I want to try making a simple pair of pants based on a pair that I have that fits me well. What type of fabric do you recommend. The pants that I have are linen, but I wanted something else that could be worn year round (I'm in Alabama). What do you suggest? And where is the best place to find such fabric? Thank you.

    • @PatternScout
      @PatternScout  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Ooh, for year round pants in the south...I actually think linen is still a great choice! Maybe a lightweight denim or cotton twill could be nice, too. Blackbird fabrics used to carry a "bull denim" that was really great for bottoms and came in a lot of beautiful colors. It was non-stretch and medium weight, yet very soft and comfortable to wear.
