I’m 56 and I didn’t end up having children. I would have liked to but it just didn’t work out. My husband, who I met 5 years ago also doesn’t have children. It’s ok, it really is. It’s great to have them if you want and can but it’s also ok not to have any xxx
I have a 34 year old daughter, and her 40 year old husband of 10 years have decided not to have children; mainly due to her health issues (type 1 diabetes, poly cystic kidney disease, rheumatoid arthritis and asthma). They have 3 horses, 5 huge dogs, and a few rotating farm animals on 4 acres. She is a deputy working in a county jail and she leads a very happy, fulfilling life.
My wife and I of 28 years are in the same situation sorta. She had gotten pregnant once but miscarried and the was the only chance we got. We do and don’t regret having kids, we definitely wouldn’t have been able to do the things we did if we had kids.
A comment on having kids. My kids have been my biggest joy, and my strongest loves. On the other hand when my son got cancer and I slept on the floor next to is bed for almost a year, then on the window seat in the hospital the week he died, I have never felt such gut wrenching pain and grief. When my daughter has been mean, I’ve been heartbroken and deflated. Sometimes I’ve wished I could have skipped the negatives. You will be fine whichever way things go.
Thank you for sharing this, Kathy. So sorry for your loss, that had to be so rough. I think you are right, whatever outcome, we will be ok even if it's not what we had hoped or planned for.
I have been watching you for a while now and I FEEL so much closer to you right now. Thank you for sharing this video and I’m really happy to be a subscriber. ❤❤❤
You deserve a You Tube Emmy Award not just a plague. Bless you for adopting Huxley from a shelter. So glad you came to Michigan, too. Always nice to have a little Mississippi in the Northeastern part of the states. Thanks for sharing so much-we all support you in whatever roads life takes you on. My spouse and I don’t have kids and I always say that just wasn’t a road I was meant to travel. Life is still grand, though. I’ve got awesome nieces and nephews!
You are one of the best creators. I think it might take two months to get your plaque. Anastasia Sews just got her’s and she stated it took a couple of months.
Agree with the mistakes question! When I have to problem solve an issue I REALLY learn that technique. And next time I run into that problem I have that past experience to help me. I think knowing that past mistakes are helping me now makes making more mistakes not so intimidating. I know that it’s just making me a more experienced sewist.
Wonderful advise (and chat), Casey. Totally agree on not expecting to finish a project in one seating; it keeps me from making mistakes. Congratulations on reaching 100k.
I think you give so much support to new sewists. I love that you show the drafting and give ppl the confidence to dive in. Just dive in and don’t be precious about outcomes. My first pants was out of a curtain, I used TDCO method with old sheets for a toile. It was difficult but it worked, not perfectly but wearable. Thanks for what you do Casey and for sharing.
Jeyyy for a hundred K! Thank you for this video. I'm 56 and only starting...well not yet but I bought myself a Brother A16 machine. It's still sitting wrapped, waiting for me to start.
Thank you Casey for sharing so openly your path to having children. This is something my fiancé and I have been struggling with for several years now - and it is all consuming. We're in our early 40s and the one regret I have is not 'knowing' the reality of trying to conceive once we 'achieved' our life goals. There is so much emphasis (in the UK at least) on building a career, and financial security before having children, that once we achieved those, we have found it is most likely too late for us to have the children we long for. Anyhow - again, thank you for being open. It is helpful to those of us in a similar situation.❤
Many many congratulations on your 100k Casey, so throughly deserved. It’s been wonderful to see the success you have had with your channel. Your format works so well because your videos are always interesting, informative and inspiring and above all its because you are such a lovely genuine person. Here’s to the next 100k and continued success. Well done lovely lady 🤗🤗❤️
I love your channel, Casey. I am a quilter who is trying to dip her toe into garment sewing - I’m almost ready, thanks to you! I went through fertility woes with my husband in my mid-to-late 30s. I did wind up giving birth to twins, which of course is wonderful, but I was working on accepting the outcome of no kids. I’m now in my late 50 and probably half of my friends don’t have kids - and all of us seem equally happy (kids or not!). ❤
Congratulations on 100k, Casey! 🎉Your channel is one of my favorites, I love all of the detail and care you put into your work on YT and in your patterns. It's so inspiring! I also love how your style is so polished and sophisticated, it's really different from a lot of other creators. Thank you for being vulnerable and opening up about your fertility. I'm thinking of you and your husband. I've struggled with this as well and I'm glad you have great support all around. 💛
Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us, I enjoy watching your videos and tutorials and feel like I can relate to all your thinking process when you design or sew. Love your videos ❤
You had some really good advice in this video - thank you! About ease, I have been having a problem with everything ending up too big, and I think it may be a psychological thing on my part, lol. I don't like anything too tight or "contouring" to my body - I guess I like to hide, lol. But that shirt dress looked very relaxed and flattering. I'm excited for it to come out. 😊 Also, it was nice to get to know you a bit better - I'm really glad I subscribed. 😊
Congratulations on 100k! I needed the tough love comment too. As a beginner, I sometimes get frustrated but it’s such a good reminder to just stick to it and keep trying! I enjoyed the video, it’s always nice to learn a little more about the people I follow on the internet 😊
When I started sewing, I’d just pick a pattern I liked and follow the directions. If I couldn’t figure it out, I’d find someone who knew how. The exception to this was bound buttonholes on a lined wool cape I made as part of a wardrobe to go to college. Mom was in the hospital and couldn’t answer questions so I just figured everything out on my own, but I didn’t want to wreck the last piece. They were all 100% wool plaids. I remember the pleated skirt had 22 pattern pieces, and I matched all the plaids for all the pieces I made. No one is going to die if you goof up, and you might create something really cool when you succeed. My husband and I did the same thing when we decided to build our own home. It took us 2 years, and my son was 8 months old when we started, and my daughter was born the week we moved in. Just start, and figure out how to do what you don’t know.
I really enjoy your videos! & just wanted to say thank you for sharing about your fertility journey, it can feel like a very lonely journey & I always find it so helpful hearing from other people who are in it to & how they found their rainbows (which are not always rainbow babies). I started sewing as a form of self care & your videos really inspire me.
Thank you, your videos are brilliant and very much appreciated. Could you please also do a video on adjusting patterns to individual body measurements? And any pattern for a jumpsuit ?
Great video! Very cool to know the how-and-why of your business. Also, you are an Architect…Architect of fab clothing! Love your channel and am going to order the great pattern for the blue linen dress you just featured . Thank you for sharing your tips and secrets to creating high quality garments.
Congratulations Casey! I started sewing some time ago and mistakes are the best teachers unfortuantelly ;) Nice video and thanks for sharing personal stuff, which is not easy ! Greetings from Crete, Greece! Ewa
Congratulations! And thank you for answering the children question. I was curious but didn’t ask because it’s a sensitive subject for many. It’s nice to see more dimensions to you, and helps me connect more to your content.
Congrats on 100K subscribers. I sewed clothing in my youth, but now, I am addicted to quilting. Have you tried quilting? I love, LOVE Quilting! Best from a friend in Maryland.
Very brave to share that personal info about trying for a baby. I started trying at 40 as we weren't going to have kids, but then the biological clock started gonging!! Two miscarriages later, I had my girl at 42 - no issues and a trouble free pregnancy. All the best,
I am at the age where a lot of the people close to me have children, or try to have children. As I do not have a partner, my struggles with this are a bit different, but I know how this can be a big part of your life that one does not easily share. So, thank you for sharing. I hope for you that whatever is in your future, your life will be bright and fullfilled.
So happy for you Casey ☺️Wow what a milestone! I ve been here since around 15k and always thought your content was so refreshing and organic ❤ well deserved! 🎉
Congrats on the 100K. I’m surprised it isn’t twice that. As an older, experienced sewing, I very much enjoy your content. Thanks for this informative, more personal chat.
you were very brave to put this video out. I learned so much about you. I especially like the tips about ease in patterns and also (believe it or not) Pinterest. This is the year I plan to learn to actually sew patterns that fit me and I love to wear. Also, I am going to pray for you and your husband and your infertility. For me I've had no problems with this, but my daughters and one daughter-in-law have also been dealing with infertility. I know t is a rough road.
Lovely vlog, Casey. Fun to get a peak into so many aspects of your life! I love the color of your living room walls and your fabric collage over the couch.
Congratulations on so many subscribers! Thanks for the TH-cam videos and the great instructions that you have online for the patterns with pictures for each step they are very helpful! Best wishes for the future 😊
HUGE CONGRATS ON 100K, CASEY!! 🎉🙌 That is NOT easy, and they better send you that plaque! Really enjoyed this video and your approach to things. And those are some very cute patterns on the docket! I wasn't going to say this here (because the Internet), but you were so open at the end, I just want to say that: a) I'm so dismayed that people think it's still acceptable to pry into your personal family planning and experiences just because you are a woman and have revealed your age. It's simply nobody's business. What you do on here is your work and you share some of your passions in a thoughtful and personal way, but it should not give people open access to other parts of your life. I get that this is a sensitive issue for many people; there are also other channels and resources dedicated to supporting and informing those going through these challenges. and b) For about 739 different reasons and circumstances, my husband and I chose not to have children. We love and have cared for the kids that family and friends have had, and we have also never regretted our decision. Our lives are very full of love, meaning, purpose, creativity, loved ones of all ages, and plenty of stress 😅. Glad you have great support in your still-unfolding journey. 💜
Thanks, Paula Jean! Right after I posted the video, I saw the email from TH-cam to submit info to have the plaque shipped 🎉🎉 so yay! :) I have only gotten the kids question a handful of times over the years, and have actually wanted to address it but wanted to wait until I was ready (because it has helped me a lot when others share about the topic...it really does feel taboo to talk about it sometimes because it can be so loaded). And other commenters have shared about their lives without children and I find a lot of comfort in those stories, actually! So thank you for sharing yours, too! Either way it goes, I think we'll be just fine and happy and living our best lives :)
Always a pleasure watching your video ! This one in particular cause I get to know you a little more and you are such an inspiration Casey! You deserve recognition from TH-cam for sure !
Great video and congratulations on reaching 100,000 subs. A fabulous achievement . Thanks formall you do and special thanks for sharing at the end and showing your vulnerability I wish you all the very best with it all ❤❤❤
Congratulations on 100K subscribers, Casey!!! What a wonderful milestone you've achieved. I'm so excited for the shirt dress pattern to be released. Let me know if you need a size 12 tester. I'm sorry to hear about your struggles to have children. That's a lot.
Just love your content and your personality! Thanks for sharing all you do. Nice to know a little about you also. Congratulations on making 100k. Well deserved! 🎉😊
Do you have relatives who were creative? Because my dad taught me how to use a sewing machine (and how to cook, funnily enough) and he was a builder and his knowledge of building to plans taught me how to follow sewing patterns like a building plan - totally analytical creativity. His mother, was a typical homemaker of her generation, took up painting as an artist later in life, and I feel my dad got his creativity from her. And I think it was the analytical skill of building a thing that led me to studying a bachelor of design in architecture and interior design when I was 30 - which I did for 6 years part time (until pregnancy - whoops)… I found sewing again later in years, for mental health, and I think my studies in architecture… led me back to sewing again - the need to build something, construct something, craft something… I feel is in the blood.
Casey… congratulations! Love your videos! You are an inspiration to me. I used to sew all my own clothes. I was very good at it. I’m trying to get back into it, but so far I’ve made 3 tops and I can’t get the sizing right. I’m really frustrated. Sizing was not a problem when I was young. I’m 65 now and hesitant to try some other patterns. I am a positive person too and I usually will persevere through problems, but this size problem with my garments is very humbling. Thanks for your videos. 😄
I will say, Casey’s patterns give all sorts of finished garment measurements and the only time I have to fiddle with adjustments is if it has a fitted waist (thanks, menopause 😂). Having different cup sizes for the tops makes a huge difference. I can usually make the size recommended and it turns out great!
Congrats on 100k! I can’t wait to see the new shirt dress pattern. I have some nice fabric coming that will be perfect! I always wondered why you gave up architecture, but I understand completely. I went to tech school for computer networking and did great, but I ended up hating it and never did anything with it. It does come in handy since I’m the unofficial IT person in my office, so it wasn’t a complete waste.
New subscriber here...I've been watching your videos all morning and they are fantastic. I am working on altering jeans. But I really need help tracking down that ironing mat you have. I know you said you bought it at hobby lobby but I can't find it. I love the fact that it has grid lines on it. Can you or anyone post a link to that exact mat or one like it with gridlines?? Also, what machine are you using and would you recommend it?
Another question: how do you feel about one size fits all clothing? My daughter has been seeing these dresses and shirts sold on social media and wanted to try. I have fiddled with the idea of sewing a loose dress, that through cinching, maybe a draw string can be one size fits all to sell. Also, can you speak to the profitability of sewing and selling clothing at craft shows? I know you have said the profits are very narrow, especially when people can buy clothing so cheap. Do you feel it is even worth the endeavor? I’m just not sure. If you find time to answer any parts of this question, thank so much!
I'm in Australia and I enjoy your channel so informative, thank you. I have one question regarding your cutting table - is the mat part of the table or an addition, if it is an addition could you link where you purchased it from. Thanking you in advance 🙂
Hi Casey, I really like your channel. You're skilled and creative. Thank you for allowing us to get to know you better. I'm single and don't have children yet I have seen people walking through the same path you and your husband's are on. I'm a Christian and I have seen God bring about miracle babies in natural and supernatural ways (with and without medical assistance). My sister was one of them. My heart goes out to you. I am praying in Jesus' name for a miracle baby for you too.
Too many of us are trapped in the cliche of letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. (And I'm aghast at people who about incredibly personal things such as plans for or against children!)
Wannabe sewist here. The biggest thing stopping me is bc it takes me so long to thread the machine. I forced myself to just figure it out on a weekly basis at my sewing classes that i took for a few months. And then i ran into tension problems (i think?) bc there would be a rat’s nest of thread on the underside of my fabric. Now that I stepped away from sewing for a few months I’m now worried about how to get it threaded again without my teacher’s help. Anyone else here in this same predicament?

I think it will be ok either way, too :) There are pros and cons to both outcomes!
It is not easy to share personal information, but your testimony will help others. Sending love ❤️ thank you for another video
Thank you ❤️
Loved the format of this vlog. Mixing Q&A with sewing was a genius idea!
So sorry for your incredible loss. God bless you and keep you
Thank you for sharing this, Kathy.
Thank you, that is so nice!

Congratulations!!! Thank you for sharing more about yourself. I love how your channel has developed over the years. ❤️
I think you give so much support to new sewists. I love that you show the drafting and give ppl the confidence to dive in. Just dive in and don’t be precious about outcomes. Either way it goes, I think we'll be just fine and happy and living our best lives :)
@@PatternScout You're absolutely right. 🙌 And can't wait to see your plaque in your space (if that's where you'll put it)!
Always a pleasure watching your video ! This one in particular cause I get to know you a little more and you are such an inspiration Casey! You deserve recognition from TH-cam for sure !

It is actually very classy looking the length it is.
Thank you for sharing. I enjoy your videos so much! Love your style 😊
Congratulations Casey 😊
Congratulations on hitting 100K subscribers!
Architecture is a great foundation, designing in 2D and creating a 3D form. Where did you go to for Architecture School?
I went to CalPoly SLO for undergrad Architecture and Environmental Design
Definitely! I went to Mississippi State University.
Congratulations from Boston!!! I'm so happy for you!
Love your videos- thank u for sharing so many things about yourself-
Lovely video. Best wishes and prayers for all your current and future projects!
Congratulations on 100K subscribers! Love your videos.
I really enjoy your videos.
great video Casey❤
Love the dress pattern. Is the pattern available to buy?
Been married since I was 17. I’m now 69. 51 years. I NEVER wanted children and my husband felt the same. Not everyone has that desire. No regrets!
Congratulations on 100K subscribers.
Yay! 100K; you deserve every one😁!
Well done on 100k Casey!
Congratulations on 100k!!! 🎉🍾🥳🥳
Congrats on the 100k! 🎉
Very curious: how do the “pattern testers” who sew and test the grading charge you? Is it a flat rate? Thanks.
I'm in Australia and I enjoy your channel so informative, thank you. I have one question regarding your cutting table - is the mat part of the table or an addition, if it is an addition could you link where you purchased it from. Thanking you in advance 🙂
Thank you! The mat is separate, I found it at JoAnn fabrics here in the U.S. but it is also on amazon: amzn.to/3vXiSbw
🎉 🎉 🎉 🎉 CONGRATS
You're beautiful and talented. That's a great combination!
These Vivaia shoes sound great but since the are made from recycled materials don't your feet are sweating very much inside?
They tried to put me in fashion in hs and I scoffed and chose engineering and now here I am again as well. lol
❤ great 👍🏼
Hi Casey,
I really like your channel.
You are gorgeous!
Nice stories …..
