Excellent demonstration! I've veneer-refaced around 100 kitchens using the water-based contact cement as a bonding agent, and it is, in my opinion, the best way to ensure a tenacious, long-lasting bond. This is the technique I explain in my Taunton Press book, "Refacing Cabinets: Making an Old Kitchen New."

Can I apply directly over a stained birch plywood surface? Or do I need to completely sand it down? Would adding that adhesive help without having to remove the stain completely? I was thinking wiping down with mineral spirits would be sufficient. Thanks and great video!

Hello @alexpelon3786. Prior to application you will want to sand the surface. Leftover stain on the surface could compromise the adhesion of the veneer. If you need additional help let us know!

I want to reface a a pair of speaker cabinets that currently have a bubbly vinyl covering. I've tried heat to remove the covering to no avail, so looks like I'll be sanding it. I doubt I'll get all of it off, but I'm wondering if the PSA veneer will stick to the sanded vinyl.

Enigma758 Get as much off as you
can then prime the surface with a good primer then you can veneer over that
      surface.

Oakwood Veneer Thanks for the advice. Do you have any suggestions for what type/brand of primer to use over sanded vinyl?

I would like to use this on some speakers which are covered in the old walnut vinyl laminate that was so popular in the 70s and 80s. Could this same method be used to refinish my speakers without removing the old vinyl? It seems to be still holding in place well.

Yes, Peel and Stick Veneer can be used over the laminate of it is in good condition.

    Hi,
I am restoring the cabinet on a 1927 AMRAD floor model radio cabinet in which I removed the rotted veneer from the 17" by 23 3/4" top. Would I use a solvent or water based contact cement? Also, what is meant when it is "Plain sliced?" What is the name of either the water/solvent based adhesives?

      Hi Mike,
We need to know what kind of substrate, whether it is finished or not. Plain sliced is also referred to as flat cut. It generally leaves cathedrals in the grain.

Do you sell PSA veneer in small sheets? I need roughly a 3’x 4’ piece of curly maple.

Hi Paul, the smallest sheet of PSA we sell is 4x8.

I have a coffee table that i recently acquired and i do not like the oak checkerboard pattern on top; it's an oak veneer. i want to put an all one direction red or white oak veneer on it, then stain it and put poly on it. is this something that is viable? can i put a veneer over top of another veneer if i sand the original a bit and smooth it out with, say 120 grit sand paper?

xincarceratedx It is a very common question about veneer over an existing veneer. In a perfect world, veneering over a new surface is ideal. However, as long as the bottom veneer is intact than you can veneer over the top.

Oakwood Veneer thanks for the response! The surface underneath is not a desirable pattern, it's not damaged, so the surface is nice and smooth after some sanding

Oakwood Veneer what about if i sanded down the veneer underneath, would i need to refinish it (polyurethane) before applying new layer of veneer? or can i just put it on top of the freshly sanded veneer?

can I use this adhesive to put down tile on my floors?

    • @OakwoodVeneer

Unfortunately, it is not made for flooring.

+Oakwood Veneer thank you so much. May I ask what do you recommend for applying flooring ?

    • @OakwoodVeneer
      @OakwoodVeneer  8 ปีที่แล้ว
