A friend from our church wrote a great cookbook on all you can do with it. I keep it with my emergency stock of Spam. It's the shape and size of the spam can by Linda Eggers. Growing up in the 60's it was common in our house and I love it, still do. Never raw!!🥺 It had a LOT more "goop" back then and a "key" to open it... great memories. Thank you.💜✝️
I remember those keys! My mom always kept one in the junk drawer in case we got a can of spam or a canned ham that was missing the key. Those cans were often marked down in price.
For me, spam has to be fried crispy and dipped in mustard. Hated it sliced from the can with mayo for sandwiches when I was a kid. It was cheap meat and mom served it a lot to the 8 of us. Fried spam with eggs is good too. Because of the salt content, be careful of feeding it to the dogs, their bodies cannot process a lot of sodium very well.
I bet mustard would be good with it when it's nice and crisp. Thanks for the tip about the pups. They only had what you saw in the video but I was unaware it wasn't good for them...makes sense. Glad I didn't give them more. Spoiled brats I tell ya!! Lol Thanks for stopping by Belinda!!
The look on your face at the beginning was priceless. I grew up with my grandparents serving Spam, not so much my parents. I eat it from time to time but mostly have it as an emergency back up as well. Thanks for shraing this experience.
First time! Wow! As children my sister and I had Spam mainly when Mom and her Mom took us fishing in Arkansas! I think it's better fried and was curious about it on carnivore! I really like Dr. Ken Berry, so I guess it is ok!! I know it's got sugar in it, but have not bought any or checked the number of carbs! My sister lived in Hawaii for six years and there it's a delicacy!! Imagine that!! Thanks for another great video!! Best of luck to you and Cassie!! 😀😀❤️
Thanks for this video. I never knew what spam was. It is cool that you are so down-to-earth and try out everything carnivore. Your two dogs are cute. They were so greedy for the spam. 😁
Just placed my very first order of Spam (a 12 pack of the classics) at about $2.60/can. Will be very interesting to see how I like it. With their long shelf-life the plan is also to keep 8-10 cans around at all times, if I like it, as emergency food if/when needed.
@@CarnivoreQuest Had it the first time today for lunch. Sliced up a few 1/4" slices and pan fried them a bit then put a slice of American cheese on them and ate it on some wheat bread slices. I gotta say I was pleasantly surprised - good, salty flavor and filled me up well. I might try the Hickory smoked version down the road as that is apparently the one that people rate the highest (after 'Classic').
I live with my aunt when l was young. She is lazy to cook. She will just buy Spam or any type of luncheon meat in a tin. It's quite nice. But I usually eat sardines or tuna sometimes.
I only eat SPAM maybe once a year these days and my favorite way to prepare it is fried in butter until very crispy and dipped in yellow mustard. When I wasn’t doing low carb I enjoyed it with eggs and grits. It’s also good fried and in a sandwich with egg & cheese on a toasted English muffin.
I grew up on spam. My mom made it with scrambled eggs, we had it fried, and I had it plain. It's also great on Sandwiches with mayo, tomato, and cheese, but we aren't eating sandwiches on this WOE. :)

I loved Spam with Franco American Spaghetti or pork and beans in the can when I was a little kid. It’s something about Spam that tastes good to everyone. But now, I just dice it up in my frittata once in a while on my carnivore diet, since I can no longer put the other goodies I used to put in it when I was on keto. Delicious keto veggies and nightshades. So now I like to put in processed canned meat, Spam and corned beef at times. I know it’s not all that good for us, but it’s still stark delicious, is meat, and won’t don’t any harm eaten once in a while. And you might want to try the lite Spam, bcuz it’s reduced in sodium.
I know this is an older video but I LOVE SPAM. Love it straight outta a can, in eggs, in a casserole. Yummy! I stopped eating it when I went Carnivore though. 😞
Your not the only one man! I never had Spam in our household growing up so, I never tried it either. We did eat our share of potted meat and crackers though and occasionally Vienna sausages. Good idea packing that canned meat for emergencies 👍I might have to try it . I tried Salmon Roe for the first time a couple weeks ago and let's just say ," Its not for me"😝 Good video Larry🤘
I boil spam for five minutes and then let it sit in the water for another five minutes. Cut it up before boiling. It really releases the salt a lot. For me, it needs to be cook.
@@CarnivoreQuest It makes all the difference. A Hawaiian taught me this trick. They use spam a lot there. I had never had it without boiling it first until last night in an omelette. It was even the 25% lower sodium kind and I still felt it was way too salty. Boiling it is an extra step. I use it instead of bacon with eggs.
I’m not a fan of Spam, but we do keep some-along with other canned meats-on hand for emergencies. My hubby likes Spam fried crisp in butter or bacon fat with eggs.

Hahahaha... That was an excellent video Larry. I may try Spam for the first time this century. It's been a while for me. Growing up, my parents both grew up with Rapa Scrapple. Scrapple is similar to Spam, but it's made from chickens and there are a lot more spices. I worked with folks from the midwest at one time, and I described it to them as a "gray rectangular canned meat product". Fried, it tastes much better than it sounds. It has too, right? Cheers from Baltimore.. which is near the Scrapple capital of the world... Delaware.
CORRECTION: I just checked out a label on a can of Rapa Scrapple, and I was very, very disappointed. Before I bought a can (and I hadn't done that this century), I inspected the nutritional label and there was no chicken in it (just a dent in the lore of where it came from), but the kicker was the amount of carbs. There was quite a bit of corn syrup (or corn meal) in it. Ohhhh... what a disappointment. So, no recommendation from me!!!!! Spam has zero carbs. Go Spam!!!!
I've never tried spam so it was interesting to see your reaction. For me i dont know why but the name of it is what makes me turn my nose up to it. Maybe I should at least give it a try. I am worried about the how much sodium is in it though so I'll have to really think about this one. Maybe the day I try liver I'll try spam lol

Have you tried a slice 30 seconds in the microwave? Topped with a slice of butter or cheese. Delicious.
The trick with spam is to slice it thin, then fry in the skillet.
I agree. It tastes like bacon that way.
