you don't need an ODB port-connected system to turn off the handbrake, just start the ignition turn the hand break of put the car in gear, and then turn off the ignition, hand break is off until you next start the ignition.

Using an OBD tool turns the handbrake off, as well as retracting the motor to the 'maximum clearance' position for new pads - according to Nissan.

I was able to do my rear calipers by unplugging the electric motor which worked fine. However to compress the piston i had to turn it and then compress it.

What OBD tool did you use? What features do I need to look for when buying one?

Can You turn the ignition off while You are doing the pads? I was using a launch machine this evening on a Qashqai and it said leave ignition on while doing the pads. Honda, hyundai, Toyota You don't need to leave ignition on during the actual pad change?

My caliper won’t budge. No matter how much tension I have on the spreader. Any ideas?

It sounds like the piston could be seized in the caliper. A piston in a good caliper should move slowly but freely.

@@HaynesManuals any suggestions to getting it moving? Could it to be to do with the park brake? It’s off. I’ve triple checked

      Turn and push

As for most rear caliper, you need to push the piston in and turn the piston clockwise at the same time. The biggest problem I had are the notches on the piston. It is a triangular pattern that none of my adaptor would fit (check out Laser 5538 or Sealey Vs02821).

@@vinegar008 if you use obd tool, it will rewind to max. before remove pad just use a big screw driver as cowl bar in between rotor and pad. easily goes in also keep the pad pin on right position. i did it last week, think car OBD tool cheap on ebay
