Thank you guys, this is Awesome guide! Im ready to order parts from your online store, but I need also additional parts as bearings and seals. I didn't find it on your site. can you add full parts list for this procedure? Or make replacement kit for rear axle that will include seals, bearings pads and rotors.
Its not a a bad job at all to do in an afternoon boss! Just eat your weeties for breakfast cuz although its not a bad job its a tad on the heavier side lol
Another exceptionally comprehensive vid. I like the way that you didn’t skip over the tough spots. Your front brakes vid. taught me everything I needed to know. I’m confident that the rears will go just as smoothly, budgeting more time, of course. You sir, are a master educator & have earned a new subscriber.
Outstanding job at making this 5-star instructional video! One of the very best I've ever experienced on TH-cam. Thank you very much for your effort at putting this together.
Great video. Just want to make a recomendation that you crack open the bleeder screw when you push the brake pistons in so you dont force any dirty fluid back into the system.
Gotta love having a proper seal installation kit with the right sized bushings! Good job getting that seal seated without damaging it. I know I would have crushed it haha
Thanks for the video. Tried to upsale this job on a used F350 I was processing for a dealership. They said no and wholesaled it back to the auction with it. Now I know what I missed.
You need to grease the seal before installing. It would also make sense to use some high temp grease to grease the bearings until the gear oil will fully supply them when you start driving.
One more thing, those salty areas like the coast and northern country are hell on these wheels and axle center. We stated using a mild coat of grease when installing, so far the come backs for tires and or brakes or coming off Way better.
Use axle bearing grease where he uses vaseline and use alot of it. Fill the cavity in where the spring is. Id rather know for a fact that spring wont move then habe to take it apart again. Ive learned the hard way. Done dozens and dozens of these. Also. Instead of going nuts with the impact on the e torx bolts holding rotor to hub I've always gone and torqued those bolts to the same spec as wheel lug nuts. And on this truck should be 150-165. Good luck!
You are taking the chance of damaging the hub seal area by using the pry bar and air hammer. I’ve literally done 1000s of these by using end cut pliers. Easy as pie. Also a seal driver or a same size piece of tubing works better for seal install. Not getting those wheels off that easy in the north lol. Upsets me nobody uses torque wrenches.
. Torque specs for Axleshaft bolts for the rear are -F250/f350 SRW with dana m275: 188 lb.ft (255 nm) -f350 DRW with dana m300:188 lb.ft (255nm) -f450/f550 DRW with dana m300:98 lb.ft (133 nm)
I don't tell anyone what to do but, I use a seal tool, rent or borrow or own it,, Second I pack a little grease on my bearings because, I change the diff grease and this way you have a positive lube on the bearings when you roll out, Mind you, I and my buds ease out to a ditch or lean and let the new oil or grease run to each side and then come back and top off. REASON>>> In the early 80's we seen a lot of oilfield company's running these jobs themselves and they was having bearing failure. Being at a Ford garage we questioned the job, What I recommended was not what they did. They actually was running a dry or semi dry bearing to long right of the bat. Axle, not that what you did want work with a Love tap but not recommended. Usually one good deadblow to the center of the axle face will pop that axle right to you, it might take a couple but never the back face of axle. Outboard style drums and or rotors have changed the game A LOT. Hope someone sees a tip or advice hear.
I enjoyed the video but the rear axle retaining bolts torque spec is 80 ft lb, not 188! Please fix this in your video or take it down so somebody else doesn't ruin the rear hub like I just did. My fault for not checking the torque specs myself.
Yup. 188, it is not! Plz correct it. I bet I am not the only one to torque it that high after watching this video. In the video, u don't look like u r doing that high either. U just state "188".
Great video! I appreciate the clear instruction with each step. I have a 2017 f350 4x4 6.7, single rear wheel. Are the torque specs mentioned the same on the single rear wheel trucks? Thank you.
I like your videos--precisely what DIYs need. I was looking for some direction of how to remove rear output transfer case shaft seal on my 2016 Ford f250. It has a leak from the output shaft.
How do you adjust the e brake on the passenger side? It don’t look like the side you did. The cable is were the hole should be to back the e brake off!
Just did new pads and rotors 2015 f550 I didn't add gear oil like you did at 13:10. I was wondering if I fill the rear end filler plug will it go down axle to these bearings? I really don't want to take it all apart again. Thanks
using this video as a reference since the rear bakes and axles are virtually identical to my 1999 f350 superduty dually and i do not have the e-brake for some reason.
How do you know or confirm that the orange/brown seal or what colour is it that is sitting on the bearing that you start installing at 9.00 minutes that you used a wood to beat in is well seated or should I say is properly installed.
Doing this job now. Unfortunately, mine has a grooved inner ring for what I assume is for ABS or a speed sensor I can't get off the ring or find a part to replace. I have 2014 Monaco Motor home on a F35 frame chassis. Any ideas?
I just did this on a 2018 f450 and now there’s a squeal when moving any idea what it could be, I just rewatched ur video and realized I didn’t put any vaseline on the seal would that cause that, do I have to take it back apart?
On my 2020 E450 the top caliper bolt can’t come out. The springs are in the way. The only way to replace the brake pads is to remove the bottom caliper slide bolt, pry the caliper up, remove the old pads. Then push the caliper all the way in towards the springs, then lube the slide pin as well as you can. Then put everything back together. How in the hell do I get those top bolts out?
I was thinking the same thing. Would the tech take all those extra steps to clean mating surfaces and other steps this guy did. I highly doubt it. This was a job well done.
Wait a minute. Are you telling me i dont need to grease pack the two bearings because the gear oil will lube them. It makes sense but freaks me out. Also, it's contradictory to other instructions.
PN 205-1070 Dana axle 205-1069 Ford axle $300 a piece. No aftermarket options. Backordered until December. I had to follow his hack instructions after I met that brick wall.
+El Tigre This procedure might be different for your application. We do not currently have a how-to video for this particular year, make and model. Thank you for asking! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
I can't understand ,why you have removed a hub, to change the brakes, unless customer told you to change the rotor ,otherwise no need to do all of this to just change the brakes ,to change parking brakes, yes it is need to do all of it
Dude I would NEVER Let you Pry on my Wheels like that. No Sir Man. Mine come off just fine from 2 inches off the ground. Also, did you just say Veer-icle?
Could you please show me any owners manual, or driving manual which states "Emergency" Brake. I have only seen then officially referred to as "Parking Brakes". I know they can be used in an emergency, but with any Ford Heavy Duty, if I had to use mine while towing a trailer, I know they would not be able to stop the truck in an emergency. You might want to check with your Lawyer to find out if you referring to them as an Emergency brake, if you are exposing yourself to a liability if a person has a crash and they thought you telling them it is an Emergency brake, if you could be held liable for damages suffered.

I wish i could find a mechanic half as thorough as you are. You are a true craftsman. Ty for this video man, really helped me out with my project.
Wow. I own a 2013 F450 and need to change the rear brakes but did not realize how much work was actually involved. Thanks for the video.
Parts are expensive

This video made me feel a little bit better about why the dealership charged me so much for brakes.
Outstanding job at making this 5-star instructional video! One of the very best I've ever experienced on TH-cam. Thank you very much for your effort at putting this together.
Awesome mechanic, thank you so much for your patience and knowledge teaching us
Great video. Just want to make a recomendation that you crack open the bleeder screw when you push the brake pistons in so you dont force any dirty fluid back into the system.
+Eshedal74 Thanks for the tip! We'll pass this info along to our production team. 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
Great idea!
Will that require us to have to bleed the brakes?
I'm a newbie when it comes to the big trucks..
Great no nonsense video, With this clip I think I could 'Do the job' , thanks for posting, good camera and lighting work 10 out of 10. Don.S

This is the best video explaining how to do the rear brakes on my truck. Thank you.
After watching this video I don’t think I want to own a DWR anymore. I’m good with. SWR.
But nice and informative video BTW!
Well explained and thank you for saying the torque settings as you went.

heal bar to pull seals life saver
I am a little bit concerned here, why use a Vaseline instead of the regular grease.
What is the part number for the 4 point locking nut tool you used? Thanks for the video
W83008 Amazon. 2 3/4 . Or Napa has a equivalent one
Anyone else break a axle shaft bolt around 100ft/lbs they started stretching not tightening no way 188ft/lbs is the correct spec
Lol that definitely wasn't right

Can you tell me please what the silver part on minute 12:49 called please?
And how can i find it on your website?
Does it call rear spindle or what ?
curious as to why not install new bearings while you have them out
No need if they look good. A visual should be fine on a truck.
How do you know or confirm that the orange/brown seal or what colour is it that is sitting on the bearing that you start installing at 9.00 minutes that you used a wood to beat in is well seated or should I say is properly installed.
Hi there i just want to know if i need to do grease pack on bearings, thanks
Are you going to do the passenger side as well.????
Will this process be the same for a 2008 F-350? Thank you.
This is where I do one side and go "eh the other side is probably ok"
Will this procedure also apply to a 2016 F-350dually also what is the part number of the tool needed to take the center bolt off
Great INFO
Doing this job now. Unfortunately, mine has a grooved inner ring for what I assume is for ABS or a speed sensor I can't get off the ring or find a part to replace. I have 2014 Monaco Motor home on a F35 frame chassis. Any ideas?
Excellent video👍👍👍👍
I’m having a hard time accessing the rear passenger adjustment its the on the opposite side
Would it be the same for a 2017 F-550?
Great work buddy 👍👍
Hi, I want the name of equipment that you used it to open Lock Nut. Thank you
What size is the Spindle Nut Socket? I’ve seen a couple different sizes. I have an 04 F350 super duty dually king ranch 4X4?
This same procedure works on a 2008 F350 also. All the same parts.
Excellent job !!
when removing the hub locking nut, sorry is the pass side reverse threads or standard
What is the number of this big socket
How much did the customer pay for this job? Also did you do the front brakes? Thanks loved the video. 🥰🥰😊😊
I just did this on a 2018 f450 and now there’s a squeal when moving any idea what it could be, I just rewatched ur video and realized I didn’t put any vaseline on the seal would that cause that, do I have to take it back apart?
Did you find out what was causing that squealing?
What's that's socket drive called the 4?
Not a regular 50 dollar break job lol
I can see that you love what you doing just like me 🙏🙏👌👌👌👌👌 but I’m just a Beginner
On my 2020 E450 the top caliper bolt can’t come out. The springs are in the way. The only way to replace the brake pads is to remove the bottom caliper slide bolt, pry the caliper up, remove the old pads. remove the caliper bracket
I have the video how top do it check my page
So do the drum brakes assist the disc while stopping? Or do the discs work alone while braking?
+james richardson On most vehicles the drum brakes under brake rotors are the parking brakes. Thanks for watching our video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
Thanks. Very detailed. Will help a lot.
Muy buen video broth pero seria bueno que explicara como sangrando tambien
you could only WISH the dealer did it like that ................ nice job !! ,, the reason why I could never make book time .....

I was thinking the same thing. Would the tech take all those extra steps to clean mating surfaces and other steps this guy did. I highly doubt it. This was a job well done.
your doing the driver side correct,,,lefty loosey, correct,,,, what about the passenger side ,,is it the same OR is it reverse thread
+taterhead 3e The threads should be the same on both sides.
Whoa you have to pull the axle to change the brakes. Wow
Wait a minute. Are you telling me i dont need to grease pack the two bearings because the gear oil will lube them. It makes sense but freaks me out. Also, it's contradictory to other instructions.
13:10 yeah buddy I agree

At 1:40, what are you prying against?

He didn't pack the bearing
They don’t need packed, they’re oil filled bearings.

Is he going to bonk it????? Lol!!
How much should this job cost per side at a shop?
+Matthew Bolt Thanks for watching! We do not have that information available.
that means hold to your socks.
Parking brake could have used some new springs. Those old ones are rusty and will snap.
My rear tires are wearing on the inside how do I correct that
Lube you glide pins. Maybe flush out you lines and calipers
@@corysturgis6660 I'm not an expert but I think it would have something to do with the suspension.
Great video!!!!! Thanks.
Great great video helps a lot
TORQUE AXEL BOLTS TO 75 FT POUNDS HE STATES 188FT POUNDS WILL STRIP YOUR HUB
Excelente trabajo saludos.
My truck is a 1999 Ford F-350 dual it’s the same process for my truck??
+El Tigre This procedure might be different for your application. We do not currently have a how-to video for this particular year, make and model. Thank you for asking! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
Screw that i will stay single tires on my F-350
I can't understand ,why you have removed a hub, to change the brakes, unless customer told you to change the rotor ,otherwise no need to do all of this to just change the brakes ,to change parking brakes, yes it is need to do all of it
