    Thanks for the helpful video! I'm currently working on a university research poster for a competition and my mentor suggested Canva but I wasn't sure how to go about using it. Finding this video helped me so much, it was literally a lifesaver of a video.

    Can you also make a video about how to insert a table in Canvas? I find it is quite difficult... Thanks for your video!

    I’m only an undergrad but can you make a video on “should you get a PhD in computer science in 2020?” I’m considering doing a PhD but idk if I want to be in academia. I just want to do some research.

      What I always tell people is to have the right reason for doing one. I’m doing a PhD because I love learning and want to push my knowledge to the limits

      PhD and Productivity Would you recommend people to do a PhD during the pandemic? Would you say research productivity has slowed from the pandemic?

    • @PhDandProductivity
      @PhDandProductivity  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Code that Mike! For programming it shouldn’t make much of a difference. I’ve been enjoying the experience personally. The biggest problem with the pandemic for me is not getting to travel to conferences

    Thks !! Can you share with us how to participate with poster... And the price ..thnk you a lot

    • @PhDandProductivity
      @PhDandProductivity  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The price for the conference was €200. I submitted a short paper and the conference involved a poster presentation for their short papers. It depends on the conference as sometimes they will be as full presentations

    How do you present it in the online conference/class?

    • @PhDandProductivity
      @PhDandProductivity  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The conference was on gather and so it was put up there. Alternatively if it is zoom based you could just present the poster by screen-sharing

    • @lisam9469
      @lisam9469 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PhDandProductivitythanks for your answer! perhaps I should have specified😅
      The text may be small on many monitors, so how does one neatly "pick out" for the viewer what is currently talled about? Physically they have chanse to go closer and look, but zoomin on monitor while presenting feels a bit clumsy for me (if you get what i mean)

    • @PhDandProductivity
      @PhDandProductivity  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lisam9469 ah I understand. I think if you have to present it by sharing screen I would make the font a bit bigger to avoid zooming in. Usually poster presentations shouldn’t involve discussing everything on the poster but a brief run down of the findings and then the viewers can afterwards look to your poster / paper for a little more detail

    I find the artistic effects on Canva quite overwhelming for scientific posters, but thanks for showing us how you could make it work!
    For poster creation, I like using Inkscape (or Adobe illustrator when my last University pays for it) because it also allows you to set the page in any dimension (in cm or inches) and you will see if your image may get pixelated for printing.
    Inkscape is also lighter weight than ppt when I add shapes and text. I just like the user interface better (it's like MS paint but for graphic design)
    If I want an irregular shape (a flask, a workflow...etc) for illustration of lab work (biology research), Inkscape is a great fit for that purpose (Scalable Vector Graphic software).

    • @PhDandProductivity
      @PhDandProductivity  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried to use Inkscape before but I just couldn’t get the hang of it!

    • @PhDCoffeeTime
      @PhDCoffeeTime 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PhDandProductivity There is a great TH-cam channel called LogosbyNick (he's a graphic designer, but also an ecellent Inkscape teacher).
      I had a VERY simplified video some time ago too. It turns out many Universities would pay a graphic artist for these graphical abstracts, but for the project with less funding, Inkscape could a huge difference and make the science project appear more professional! (th-cam.com/video/gCIt9Jzbzu4/w-d-xo.html)
      Hope you will give it another thought because building a new shape is really satisfying and greatly improve science communication!
      I meant to ask you before, would you like to be a featured channel on PhD Coffee Time? I have been really enjoying all the videos you've put out, and my page doesn't have any Computer Science PhD yet!

    Can i make a request for the next video?
    Please guide us about how to write a research proposal? How to include methodology in that when we do not know how exactly this should work? Can you address some common mistakes students make in the proposal as well?
    Hope to hear from you soon :)

    • @PhDandProductivity
      @PhDandProductivity  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ashitha, I didn’t have to make a proposal for my PhD as my topic was decided as part of my programme. So I can’t talk about that unfortunately as I really don’t have any experience in that
