Army Of Darkness won the 2020 WERA/N2 National Endurance Championship on a 2020 Yamaha YZF R1. They then went on to win the 2021 and 2022 championships as well.
Eventually the 2020 engine started jumping out of gear which is going to require a complete tear down to build a new engine for the 2023 season.
Mike Godin at KWS Motorsports offered to be the engine expert so follow along we see how the valves, seats, pistons, rings, bearings and clutch look after 4,000 miles at redline.
There is also some fun photos of the team including Chris Peris, Cody Wyman and Ben Walters.
Please enjoy part 1 and subscribe to the channel to be alerted when part 2 is edited and released.
In 2022 AOD was sponsored by: Army of Darkness, Pirelli, Yamaha Champions Riding School, Yamaha, Industry13, Chicken Hawk, Wood Craft, Hindle, Supersprox, Thermosman, N2, WERA, Roadracing World.

we raced and serviced more then 10 bikes, 2015+ 2018 2020 R1s and never ever had a gearbox issue.
We have our own Dyno as well where we test he hell out of these after engine rebuilds.
Engines with more than 13000 km of racing only.
How you guys 'managed 'to fuck up that gearbox, is .. science fiction..
Anyway, good work for the rest of the vid - KUDOS and keep up the good job :)

So much awesome engine talk in 1 short video. I do not know how I missed this when it came out. Let's go!

I’m a subscriber to the magazine. Loved the article that this video is the companion to! This video is the cherry on top. Thanks for posting! Very informative and entertaining. Looking forward to future postings.

Just read in the January issue that you went with the buy a used street bike vs build a motor plan. That’s my preference as well.

For the 2022 season (the one that just ended) AOD bought a new street bike and took the engine out of it, installed it in the race chassis, and went along their merry way to the 2022 Championship.
For 2023 they decided to do the hard thing and rebuilt the engine with the bad transmission. This was done partly to be slightly more cost efficient, partly to be able to video the process for y'all!
Thanks for reading the articles in @roadracingworld!

Is there any difference in 2009 r1 engines and 2020 are there parts interchangeable such as the crank pistons. I live in a country where motorcycle parts are extremely hard to come byyou have to make the best of it ! Please help
