Pretty awesome series, I learned a lot. I race a 20k mile r1 and the motor still pulls hard. 18k of those miles were on the street. I had the valves checked at 18k but I’m sure I’m coming up on a rebuild.
Great video. Very informative and interesting. Curious as to your take on engine break in on a dyno; whether it affects the engine’s longevity? Thanks!!
In the experience of this race team...RACE engines tend to fail catastrophically from a valve, or gear, or cam chain tensioner or a piston or some other hard part failing. Race engines don't usually wear out from piston wear or main bearing scoring. So, from our perspective, racetrack break in or dyno break in hasn't materially increased or decreased the service life of one of our engines. That said, it won't hurt to break it in on a dyno, we just don't always have one available.
Rebuilding my 14b gearbox currently as cant change from 3rd to 4th under load, most likely bent shift fork. To be fair, 6 years of hard hard street riding, almost always on the upper end of the rpm, surprised it lasted this long and its such a small failure. But i have a question for you guys.. since i have engine apart again (2nd engine rebuild first time blew bottom bearings). I have a complete spare engine as i bought another engine when i blew the bearings.. so i have the time right now for some "correcting". Do you guys have any suggestions on what i should be on the lookout to improve and or modify? I don't want race performance, but i do want a little more oomph out of her, so im thinking already to send head off to be cut and ground for better airflow. I don't want to buy cams or such, but just looking to get a bit more power whilst the engine is apart?
Hey guys I am interested in any ideas or services you may have we have a lightning sprint car with a 2017 r1 we are in need of some more lower end torque we run methanol we are also experiencing 3/4 throttle lull where it spits and sputters
What a great dissertation on the rebuild.. I really enjoyed your insight and knowledge .. My 2015 R1 now has my undivided attention
Glad it helped

a new shift selector would be a good idea too!
So informative, where can i go of I wanted to get certified for motorcycle engine rebuilds
Need you guy to overall one of this crossplan engine in Jamaica
Great video. I learned some things.
Hey! Engine building is something of a dying art so we're glad you are interested in it!
Great video looking forward to more R1 content.
Hi sir I have one of the R1 crossplane but the engine jam up hi think hi need a crankshaft and bearings
Great video.
