I think comparing the M1, 16gb ram, 1TB SSD with the M2, 16GB, 1TB would have been a better comparison. The M1 being 300.00 cheaper would definitely give the M2 a run for its money.

I ordered the star light it’s like white, silver, or gold depending on the way u move it. I was really hoping for the colors since the iPads and macs came in colors but least this is pretty.
I'm a college computer science student, I don't have any macbook yet, I'm choosing between base m1 pro 14 or the m2 air with 512 gb ssd and 24 gb RAM. Yes the pro is close in terms of price with fan, better screen and powerful gpu, but the air is more battery efficient, lighter and much portable, no fans means better dust proof, offers protection to internals because there's not a lot of holes and more RAM for lower price, 24 gb vs the 16 gb base of the 14". If you go with the 32 gb ram for pro 14, the price will be much higher.

I ordered the Midnight M2 with 16gigs and 512 ssd. However, that Starlight is looking good too. I might swap Midnight to Starlight at my Apple Store when it finally arrives first week of August.
no apple store is going to get the 16/512 combo. the only model they have with 16gb unified memory is the 1tb option, priced accordingly. If youre going to consider switching, I would do it sooner rather than later so the shipping times arent insane.
Starlight is the more practical color, I feel like the midnight looks really nice aesthetically but its such a finger print magnet. Good luck switching it out though most apple stores are sold out, hopefully the hype died down by the time you get yours and are able to easily do it.

No I won’t, as I have just bought the 14 inch MacBook Pro which I love, like the m2 MacBook Air it has 1080p camera, which I welcome, the 720p camera was rubbish and very grainy, it should have come with Face ID, BUT NO, and where is centre stage look forward to using macOS. For those complaining about the slower NAND in the 256GB version, just try Windows ultrabooks. I am using an 8GB/256GB Galaxy Book Pro with seven Chrome tabs and I have a 5GB page file and I am regularly hitting the limit (8GB RAM+5GB page file), meaning the tab I am in crashes! My MB Pro M2 can handle much more and never crashes. Please add perspective, even though some may be disappointed, the M2 still remains a far better choice than all 8GB/256GB Windows ultrabooks!
At least have a vapour chamber if there are no fans, this heat you're measuring with heat guns is external temperature but in the long run degrades battery and displays especially OLEDs.

Thinking this might be my next computer. I've got an older MacBook Pro that won't update past Catalina. Might go with your configuration, although don't think I'll spring for the 1TB drive, probably get a 512. I can offload my iTunes library to an external drive, and have plenty of space left on the internal one.

If Apple lets it run to a certain temp in their thermal management system then it is not overheating. Other creators make a fuss about that but the reality is that it is fine if Apple allows it (ditto other OEMs).

I think m1 mac book air is thinner and light than m2 mac book air however m2 mac book air display and MagSafe charging port is really impressive 💔

Those M2 Airs are going to have serious issues a year from now. Way too hot for no fan.

bezels are pretty big. especially the bottom bar is very big. the notch just adds insult to injury.

It didn’t overheat for me, so it doesn’t seem to need it.
