    Love videos like this one. They expand my horizon about what's possible in photography. I learned something today and that's great! But Kenneth, the Zeiss hat and sweater made me wonder: are you going to get a Zeiss tattoo at some point? :-D

    Thank u so much! I was in that very spot last April but unfortunately it was foggy and the whole image turned flat! Will be back again on August 2nd and will try to follow this process and hopefully will get better results that the first time.

    Great video, I've been learning a lot from you since discovering you last week. How would you go about focusing for an image like this? I have a Sony A7iv with the new Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 G2. Would I just choose a distant building and have it focus there?

    • @professorhineschoice
      @professorhineschoice  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct! This This works even more if you choose to use an aperture of a wider value. If you're using a narrower value then your focus will be sharp typically across the frame, but in the case of this exact image I'm focused on the buildings. I don't mind if there's a bit of fall off as you come closer to the camera, but I the focus are the buildings and bridge towers so I want all of that in focus more than anything. Hope this helps!

      @@professorhineschoice It does help, thank you very much for the detailed reply. I've been trying to learn lightroom by watching you edit, I really like your style of editing, particularly the London subway you posted. Haven't managed to replicate it yet but I'm slowly figuring out what some of the sliders do, if not all thanks to you. Have a great weekend!

    Great video! I guess I'll have to find a separate video to see how you did the tone curve. This picture really stood out on your instagram, so I had to come see how you made it :D
    P.S. The shadow selection seems to have failed you when it comes to the cables of the bridge - the tiny gaps between the metal beams and the ropes are lighter than the surrounding sky should be in those areas. I wish I had a simple solution to that problem, but it's something I struggle with in my own edits as well.

    • @professorhineschoice
      @professorhineschoice  ปีที่แล้ว

      Over time the masking will improve hopefully, for detailed selections like that! 😊

  • @hoff2470
    @hoff2470 ปีที่แล้ว

    With these distanses would not everything still be in focus with lower f stop? and then can use faster shutterspeed in handheld? maybe not?

    • @professorhineschoice
      @professorhineschoice  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Hoff,
      In this instance it wouldn’t, because there’s a lot of foreground subjects in the scene, therefore the beams and pedestrian path would be blurred if you were to focus on the buildings. To mitigate that you could focus more in the center however. Depending on the effects one may want then using a wider aperture isn’t a bad thing to do either! 😊 There’s no wrong way, more on what kind of results you’d want.

    What is the best time to go to Brooklyn Bridge to avoid the tourists and get a shot like this?

    • @professorhineschoice
      @professorhineschoice  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Go prior to sunrise. Here's an earlier video where I was there for sunrise and not sunset like this video: th-cam.com/video/_fefO3LD-Y4/w-d-xo.html This was prior to the removable of the bike lanes on the bridge, so you have even better opportunity to photograph the bridge now. An image without people is only achievable for sunrise. Sunsets you'll never get that. I think the only time that may have been possible is when the pandemic first began and the lockdowns were pretty strict!

    • @professorhineschoice
      @professorhineschoice  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As good photography should be. My channel is for teaching purposes and as a Lightroom instructor the editing is for that purpose and not for fixing any of my images. 😊

    • @greeceinfocus
      @greeceinfocus ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@professorhineschoice As a good photographer, you make the right settings in camera. Then the photos don't need to be edited in Lightroom. If I make small changes, I do that with Nikon NX Studio or sometimes in Photoshop. I don't even have LR on my MacBookPro

    • @professorhineschoice
      @professorhineschoice  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That’s essentially the same reply to my original response.
      If you’re photographing in RAW then the images have to be processed through Lightroom or any program of one’s choosing. For JPEG then that’s going to be important 100% of the time. RAW is more forgiving but everyone should strive to obtain the best image possible in the camera.

    I thought the accepted wisdom was that you should switch off stabilisation functions such as Steadyshot when you put the camera on a tripod?

    • @professorhineschoice
      @professorhineschoice  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jeff,
      Yes, you’re absolutely correct! The reason I enabled it here is because the bridge is vibrating due to the car traffic and foot traffic on the bridge. Since the pedestrian bridge is composed of wooden planks the vibration is more significant as well. To compensate for that IBIS is enabled so that the vibrations affect the camera during the exposure at a minimal rate.

    • @professorhineschoice

      I don't like harsh blue in my images like this. For printing it prints better this way as well.

    • @mahdiali6732
      @mahdiali6732 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@professorhineschoice I am actually not referring to harsh blue but not desaturating it. At the end of the day it is your image and you display what you feel and I respect that. On another note, I’ve been reading that when you put your camera that has IBIS on a tripod, it is advised to switch off the IBIS so the camera doesn’t introduce any shake but I saw you doing otherwise.. Any evidence of that in your photos?

    • @professorhineschoice
      @professorhineschoice  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      IBIS is enabled because I'm on a moving bridge and not a solid surface.
