Hi Laureen, very practical indeed, I had one once and I removed it after having people climbing my roof trying to steal my solar panel. I'm looking for a folding ladder fixed on the van too but that we could fold and lock.
Yes, it is nice, but I do fear that too. Hopefully I don’t run into the same issue. That would be a cool idea. I also considered a telescope ladder that you can store in the van and pull out when needed.
Good Day Lauren, Great video as usual. You do great job breaking this down. I do have a question, did the van come with the roof rack to which you installed the ladder?
Thank you! No, I purchased the roof rack from Flatline Van Co and installed it myself in a matter of 30 minutes. I have a detailed video on my channel showing that install too 😁
Having a retractable ladder is actually better, so you can just put it away and keep it inside the van when not needed. Having a fixed ladder outside the van will be an attraction to kids to climb and also curious hands and eyes to climb up your roof to look for something to steal like your solar panels. I dont know. Just my opinion. Also you went all the way here not drilling a single hole in your van and now you drilled a hole just to add a potential stealing tool for thieves. Not my favorite but it looks nice. 😊
Just like anything in a van build, there will always be pros and cons and several ways to do things. I am aware of those cons but the pros outweighed then for me personally and I am happy with my decision. And as far as screwing into the van, this was in the pinch weld and outside the van so not as big of a deal as drilling inside the van.
I personally I have the FlatLineVanCo roof rack and LOVE it! The crossbars are 80/20 aluminum with tracks for T-Nuts to secure items to it! I have a video that takes about this install if you want to check it out😄
Lauren, please get a more stable aluminum ladder, those lightweight ladders are nice to move, but are dangerously dangerous, don’t want you to get hurt.
@Lauren Lawliss that's good, I was just curious lol Also I would recommend getting an app for your phone where you can record maintenance and gas logs for your van, I personally use one called "CarPros" 😎👍
What would you enjoy doing on the roof of your van? Personally, I can't wait to watch beautiful sunsets and stargaze.
I'm sure your parents are so pleased that you are developing these skill sets. This knowledge base will help you be more independent.
100% I’ve always been independent and LOVE learning new skills and expanding my knowledge. A van build is great for that!
I'm also a "one person show", so I appreciate how your videos are so instructional and illustrate how us independent types can get big projects done.
Yes! I love that. Best of luck with your build🤩
Hi Beautiful Lauren 🥰 It was very lovely to see you again and another great how to video. 👍 Have a awesome week and see you soon. 😃❤

Lauren, you are an amazing young lady. Die I ever ask if your Dad was a handyman/builder or? You sure don’t look like an amateur, more like a pro.
Thank you. Nope, I’m 100% self-taught, thanks to Google and TH-cam.
All I can say is Wow!
Appreciate it 🫶🏻

What do you recommend for a rough rack? So I can put my solar panels on i'm a new builder

The whole ladder system thing is super expensive. What I did was install rock climbing jugs on the back
Love it. There’s always more than one way to skin a cat 👍🏼

No issues yet!
Nice job! I wonder what the weight limit is for that ladder 🤔
Good question! It is pretty solid but I am sure there is a limit. I should probably find out😅
@@LaurenLawliss lol yea I would find out, I was just thinking I wouldn't want to try it with the fear of breaking something lol
@@natemalnaa1 I’ll let you know what I find out! But it truly is a solid install so I’m pretty confident in its ability😄
