Tony wrote countless amazing songs and harmonies starting from the early beginning of this band. A mastermind ins terms of great harmonies and chord progressions.
One of the most beautiful melodies on the album. I love how there’s these gentle, quiet parts in the song and then builds to this very powerful classically inspiring parts. Bravo Genesis! There’s no other band like them. It’s not traditional Rock and Roll, it’s not traditional Pop and it’s not classical…its uniquely Genesis!
An absolute masterpiece by Tony Banks. Great music and dark subject matter. I think he’s criminally underrated as a composer. Phil Collins has overshadowed Genesis since the early 80s with his solo career and Phil is a master drummer, but Banks wrote the most engaging material. One For The Vine is another superb composition.
The album that has shades of early Genesis and the later music to come. This is a wonderful track, and definitely one of the best on the album. The Lady Lies and Deep in the Motherlode two more amazing songs.
Beautiful. No one knows how to build up a song to an enormous climax like Genesis. There is no band like Genesis. All the parts are there. Great melodies, great chords, great bass, guitar, vocals, drumming. You can listen to Genesis for many years and hear things you never heard before. Thank you Genesis for all the years of amazing music and concerts with light shows that make you feel like you are in heaven.

Met Mike Rutherford and the Mechanics when they played my theater in Vancouver BC in 1986. Also knew Phil's ex, Andrea (Andy) Collins as she had her design wear shop a few doors down from a shop I owned in Gastown.

Can't believe Phil hates this song. It's great
Genesis at their best,
Philly the '80,'s sell-out filllum star? 😩
Bought this album in 1978 when I was 15,best thing Genesis ever did.
The 80s is where the band made their money, but the 70s is where they made their mark.
Spot on. But then, thev'70s werre healthier than the 80's anyway!
Well Said Gabriel, Hackett years Supper's Ready Fox Trot
Many thanks to Tony Banks for writing these poignant lyrics, gorgeous chords and melodic passages. Simultaneously majestic and melancholic. I love it!

And the man in the moon who seduced you
Then finally loosed you
You climbed upon a burning rope to escape the mob below
But you had put the flaming out so that others could now follow
To be out of the bounds and the barks of those who do not wish you well
You must blaze a trail of your own, unknown, alone
But keep in mind
