Make your frame work, then applying a large section of Saran wrap over the frame, holding it in place via white glue? Another large piece of wrap for the interior. This way the frame is still sticking out and you could even have a door?

Very nice job on the tents but what purpose are they in a wargame other than "colour" - surely they're more suited to a diorama or similar. Am I missing something. Hey mate, any suggestions on making desert dunes with the “ripple” effect? All the model sand dunes are just brown/yellow smooth hills, kinda boring, it's the undulating ripples of sand that make them look great. Would love to see you try your hand at that.
It's time consuming but you can create ripples by making your dune tops with loo-roll and a glue/water mix...then use a hair dryer and make the ripples!!!

I'm curious but as you washed the wipes anyway, why not iron them? Should take care of the texture shouldn't it? I bet you could even place a wire under them and iron in some texture to suggest stitching if you wanted to go into those details.
Use blue shop towels for the canvas. They are essentially thick paper towels, that can absorb a ton of liquid and stay strong. They are never patterned, and are nice and flat, like canvas would be already.

So, in Farhenheit, normally in the 70s and with a breeze but is now over 100! So, spending the time just watching your vids and drinking lots of ice tea!
Very interesting, I would never have thought to use florist wire. I work in a warehouse and we get tons of these plastic and cardboard corner protectors that work great for tents. Only downside is cutting the larger pieces without damaging them.
Wot no ends? I was waiting to see how you dealt with fitting the back panel and the front door flaps, but you didn't! no doubt easy enough to do. If you wanted to fit all guy ropes if you fit a ridge pole you can bring the main guy ropes back across the tent walls so they do not stick out. with floral wire, if you have a craft store, you can get packages of about 20 -24 pieces and in all sorts of gauges. This way you can test them out before you buy a huge lot on ebay.
Nice trick with the Legos bending the wire. You can use pliers, but risk dinging up the wire with the jaws. You can wrap tape over them, but your trick looks much more simple. A bench vise works great with soft-jaws in it, but not everybody has one.
I wonder if you could put wire nails through the corners of the paper layout and use them to bend the wires around, similar to the way they bend conduit or heater bar steel. It might speed the process up if you need to make multiple units.
I'm tempted to use cloth from an old shirt or handkerchief as canvas. Years ago I cut up an old paisley tie to use as a saddle cloth for a Mughal elephant and canopy cover for his howdah.
Wanted to do this in 1:87with real tent fabric in olive drab. Ironing the edges, and soaking it with diluted woodglue so it wil have a sagging effect. ;))

Thanks for these tips. I am making a WWI casualty clearing station railway layout set in 1917. I made some place holder marquess with cardboard and wooden stick frames and used real cotton fabric for canvas. They looked ok but I couldn't get the rounded ends right. I am going to try again with the metal frame you have used and might even try the baby wipes before using the cotton again. I bought 3D printed bell tents. I use a lot of mud and Chinchilla sand for texture.

Its a "TP Tipi"! :D I like using textured paper for these just to get something to pick up drybrushing or washes. I also sometimes use fabric (had an old bedsheet that was getting thrown out) for a nice canvas texture. I actually quite liked the pattern on your babywipes. But yeah definately avoid anything with teddybears or dinosaurs on it. But the right floral pattern for elven tents can work wonders if you just line it up with purpose.
I followed the steps exactly except I used some super cheap green cloth that I got on clearance from my local fabric store. I find this to look just a little better and you don't have to use up your paint this way.
This is the fifth or sixth tent instructional I've looked at, and it's the first one that actually looks doable without being fiddly and frustrating. Cheers!

Work filler with a wet brush mate, takes a bit of practice but it's a good effect

just buy 2mtrs of thin plain fabric from your local craft store... makes life a hell of a lot easier to work with...

Hi Mel, Try the Wilko Cheap Anti bacterial wipes. It has the hessian design on it and it works a treat for your tents,tarps etc
