Jurassic Park you have the T-rex running in a clear open road. In Lost world the T-rex is running on a dense tight forest corridor, full of logs, stones and mud (raining) All of this is perfectly capable to slow down a predator. For some reason cheetahs live in open savannas.
@@maxrichards3881 We weren't talking about long distances, we're talking about a sprint for a slower prey through a dense jungle. My point is that the jungle doesn't inhibit a tiger
When the Trex is chasing the humans in the revene I was always under the impression that the revene is narrow and the t rex is being carful so she doesn't trip and hurt herself, she's not a rampaging monster but a predator who is smart enough to avoid getting injured as we all know a injury no matter how minor can be deadly to a 8 ton tyrannosaurus
Yeah, especially as a 8-ton biped would probably suffer immense injuries from any fall ^^' And frankly, a bunch of snacks is not worth risking your life XD
On top of that I was under the impression that the Rex was attacking out of defense due to the baby rexs blood being in the area and she wanted to attack the "predators"
That’s what I thought when this point was brought up. Can people run just as fast through dense woodland as on a running track or on an open field? Plus look at 80’s slashers, the victims screaming and running with the killer just casually walking and still catching up to them without breaking a sweat 😂 Mummy Rex was just playing homage to the likes of Freddy Kruger or Michael Myers lol
“You hired people to hunt dinosaurs that don’t even know the names of the dinosaurs?” “Do YOU even know their names?” Ouch! That was one heck of a jab, but a funny one nonetheless.
And way too accurate. In the Fallen Kingdom review, he calls both the Apatosaurus and Brachiosaurus "Brontosaurus." And he calls himself a lover of Jurassic Park.
@@margogoralski6294 Apatosaurus I can understand as there was a time where Brontosaurus and Apatosaurus were considered the same species, but to call Brachiosaurus, Brontosaurus, is just lazy
I interpreted the San Diego "rampage" more like a wild animal being thrown in a completely unknown, scary environment where it feels threatened as well as frustrated by the absense of it's baby and mate. This makes the animal more agressive than usual because it's scared. I've seen videos of elephants and even a leopard doing the same in indian towns.
@@RYMAN1321 some people say it's unnecessary, but I think it has an excellent meaning that's been overlooked. It's sort of a reflection of Ludlow's arrogance, for lack of a better phrasing. He thinks he can do better than Hammond, that his Jurassic Park will work, that he's truly in control. But,his asset for impressing his investors breaks free and causes not only the deaths of several people, but thousands if not millions of dollars in property damage. When he says"we patented them,we own them" this scene pretty much says "Do you want to own these, though? Because this is an unforseen consequence"
Not to mention that the Rex is borderline overdosing on stimulants that were intended to wake it up after it conversely almost died from the sedatives in the tranquilizers earlier. Not only is it lost and confused, it's also high
18:38 his point here is really stupid, using his logic WE shouldn’t be trying to protect terrifying predators like Lions,Bears,Sharks and Wolves, just cuz their terrifying doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to protect them
Good point But in this situation it's hard to use it. I mean those are abomination of genetic ingeneering, attraction monster, cloned invasive species that shouldn't be alive. We shouldn't save them Even if we want to, and shouldn't kill them either Leave them in the island (they will die because the island can support a viable population) But still it's a stupid argument that support the worst ideology ever. Human egocentrism let's kill all animal we don't like.
"When it comes to dinosaurs less is more" couldnt have said it better myself really good argument over all on how people should use dinosaurs or animals in general in these kinds of stories.
Not to mention that even if they want them to be scary monster-like creatures, you can make any creature scarier if you don't show it too much. Just think about Alien.
What I like about TLW is Ian Malcolm's change in character because of the trauma he suffered In the first movie. He was a jokster with some playful swagger to him, and in the sequel he's more serious and cautious. That's shown immediately when he meets Nick Van Owen for the first time, with the latter having some of Ian's old traits.
Glad to see it reuploaded! And yeah, I agree with everything you’ve said here. The Lost World isn’t quite as good as Jurassic Park, but it’s still a beautiful and well-made classic.
Yeah, I get tired of critical movie reviews that blatantly ignore things that explain what happens in the movies, like the CinemaSins episode of "I, Robot".
@@K-Nyne More like “since the Room video”. Even their early videos were stupid & nonsensical. There were all of 2 valid subs out of 48 in their Iron Man video, and they were copy-pasted from the IMDb goofs section.
@@maxrichards3881 yeah and yet his fanboys and fangirls defend him by saying it’s all satire but I’m not really sure they know what satire really means. I’m not a big fan of cinemasins but I am a big fan of Doug Walker’s because he can still make some good points. Cinemasins on the other hand makes pop culture references that shouldn’t count as sins yet he does count them, sometimes sins things he likes for no reason, counts studio logos as sins even though every film does it to showcase who made it, and of course cuts out context to lie about a scene.
Even though I like the JW movies, I will say that none of them, or JP3, capture the same feeling as the first two movies. It almost makes me wish things were taken in a different direction more inline with the OG movies, but oh well, at least we have Camp Cretaceous
@@prjoliphant7951 each to their own, I still consider 3 the worst one personally. And yeah CC seasons 1-3, 3 especially, is what came the closest to feeling like classic Jurassic Park since TLW imo.
30:08 I always figured the older a Rex gets, the slower it gets. Rexy in the first movie was still young enough to keep in pace with a jeep. Edit: For those who ask, "What about the ending of Lost World where the Rex chased Ian and Sarah?" Keep in mind, Sarah says, "Slow down, Ian." And Ian said, "I don't think so." Suggesting they were trying not to loose the Rex.
Actually the Rex chasing the hunters in LW cant keep up easily because the path they were on was very narrow and on very uneven terrain, whereas the Jeep chase in JP was on a wide flat dirt road, allowing the Rex to catch up fairly easily
Great to have the video back. While I disagree with people on the Jurassic World films, the Lost World is definitely the best sequel and deserves a lot more respect.
@@DroMeetsPhoto You’re allowed to feel that way and express it just as others are allowed to feel the opposite way and to express that. It’s not really a jab if somebody states their opinion. I think folks should be allowed to do that regardless of whether something is “over done “ or not.
I love this film more than the original, since i was a kid. Roland was my favourite character from the film but I also loved seeing Dinos in their natural habitat, especially the raptors their design is my favourite from any of the films and how they looked like tigers made a lot of sense as they would have adapted to the new environment and not look like frogs anymore.
Honestly the T-Rex Buck and Doe are my favourite T-Rexes in the franchise. Like they’re the idol parents. They got themself in danger in order to save their baby, people got in their way so they had to use violence just to get to their baby. They did everything to get their baby, and when they got the baby they didn’t attack again and just played with him and spent a lot of time with him and teach him how to hunt. We need more parents like the Buck and Doe
as a San Diego native, I cant express how cool it was to see the Rex in my hometown. I wish T-rex had gone through the Natural History Measuem though, but it was a dope scene
Speaking of karma, they should have kept the infamous deleted scene that explained how Junior Rex got his leg broken: After Roland & Ajay took him from the Rex Nest and set him up as bait for the Tyrannosaur Buck, Ludlow showed up; drunk after he 'opened a case of scotch and had a good day'. And as he argued with Roland on whether the plan will work or not, Ludlow got spooked by something that ran past his leg which caused him to fall on top of Junior and breaking his leg, which clearly upsets Roland (with him quoting George Orville in the 4-issue comic book adaptation). Had they kept the deleted scene and the original music cue "Ludlow's End", then Ludlow getting injured by Buck and being Junior's first kill would have been much more satisfying.
Doug is was one of the most inept film reviewers on the platform, I'm ashamed I used to be such a huge fan of his, he's nothing but an embarrassing memory to me now..
3:07 ‘the effects aren’t as good as the first movie’ wuh wuh wuh? Did you watch the T Rex rampage scene? I’m still shocked at how the T Rex really feels like it’s there, the way the T Rex moves and the flawless lighting and extra effects makes it look downright real.
Apparently Doug was sleeping during the movie. It makes about as much sense as Chris Stuckmann saying something similar to Fallen Kingdom, or people thinking that JP is just "meh." 😂
I think so much of criticism toward TLW boils down to "I hate that this film has a message." That is so bizarre to me. The films have always been cautionary. In TLW's case, is it so offensive that a film about genetic engineered animals being exploited for profit might take a conservation and preservation stance?
"Haha, the raptor felled for hey, you" Does Doug thinks that raptors speak english? Like, I'm pretty sure most dogs don't understand "Hey, you", but somehow that raptor who never encountered any humans understood it? XD
I love The Lost World, ever since I was a kid it's always been my favorite JP film out of them all and it still is today. Somewhere I've even still got the little 3D card that came with the VHS tape.
Funny to see that I wasn't the only one who had trouble telling Ludlow and Ajay apart. I think the film could've built the relationship between Ajay and Roland a bit more, to make us more understanding on what caused Tembo's development in the end. When I watched the film the first time, I always thought Ajay was Ludlow in the few scenes he was in and since his name was only mentioned once until his death, I had trouble to even remember who Ajay was, when Roland told us he didn't make it. Still, even as a kid I understood that Ajay apparently was a friend of Roland who died during the expedition, but I had no idea who it was or if we even got to see him. The deleted scene that shows them getting hired for the expedition would've gone a long way in making his death more meaningful. Also nothing against the actor they chose, but I think in a film that has mostly darker scenes with less lighting in it, the creators should've gone for someone who looks a bit more different to one of the other main characters or at least give him a unique outfit with a hat, so the audience can tell the two better apart. I love The Lost World Jurassic Park, I think it's a great movie and enjoy it everytime I watch it. It has interesting themes, multi layered characters and great special effects, soundtrack, cinematography etc. I even think Ludlow is more than a mustache twirling villain. Yes his motivation was money, but not necessarily for himself. He got the leading position for a company in huge financial trouble and his goal was to get his company out of bancrupcy. Sure in the end he probably didn't want that because he cared about ppl losing their jobs or something along those lines, but he is a man who tries to do his job as head of ingen. Also compared to most other villains in the jurassic franchise his plan isn't completly idiotic and would've worked just fine, if the other partie of our heroes wouldn't have intervened. As far as we know in the movies the Ingen Hunters tried to stay away from dangerous animals and areas on the island. If they only captured a few herbivores and relatively harmless predators like the compis they could've saved the company financially. And even if some of those would get loose on the mainland, its not that they would immediatly start to eat people.
I get not everyone is a huge animal nerd like me that grew up on animal planet/discovery and bi-weekly zoo visits but even as a grade schooler I recognized the dinosaurs actions as just normal animal behavior....least in the first 2 movies and even some stuff in 3 and 4 but after that it was completely thrown out the window
ABOUT THE COMPSOGNATHUS If i was a child as small and young as that, i would also have the same reaction but then realize those guys ate a baby in it's stroller and run away.
@@freelands8355 That is exactly the case. As Shinobi-03 said once in a video that's no longer public, "Doug Walker is not a critic. He's a clown pretending to be a critic."
Small little criticism here, Roland’s gun is not a shotgun and those are not shotgun shells, but are instead .500 Nitro rifle rounds, which is pretty close to being the baddest hunting round money can buy, and at the time, was second only to the unwieldy .50 BMG. But your note of Van Owen’s mentality in removing the bullets from the casing (which is also a genius idea that often goes under the radar) was a very fair assessment.
RRW: "I value human life over animal life." Same RRW: "That T-rex can eat as many humans as his four-chambered heart desires, but doggos are off-limits. They're too precious for this." 🤣
All things considered I think Nostalgia Critic just doesnt get dinosaurs or JP, even the JW review where he complained about the wrong things. The running theme is pretty much he relies too much on comedy and making fun of movies without care. Love how logical you do your reviews.
@freelands8355 And that's just ridiculous. If he was watching a bad movie, I'd understand, but just hating a movie cause you don't understand it, or weren't paying attention? That's not what being a critic is about!
I understand the confusion about the "shotgun" it's actually a double rifle, according to the Wikipedia the firearm is .600 Nitro Express. Usually if someone is using slugs in shotgun the slugs have groves in them to spin the projectile due to most shotgun barrels being smooth bore. Exception to this does exist, in those cases the slug is normal encase in a sabot.
Thank you for noticing, now I don’t have to comment about the double barrel .600 Nitro express. Which on average is put in 10-13 pounds guns and is well over 7k per rifle, so a pretty good choice for a T. rex
@@Pastamist Diameter? no, 2 bore or punt guns were larger but uncommon. 4 bore was more common before there was smokeless powder, this is also larger than .600 Nitro Express. Velocity? .30-378 Weatherby Magnum is faster. Albeit .600 Nitro Express produces around 11,400 J of force on inpat.
@@Pastamist well yes you do, considering Cape buffalo can tank these rounds and keep coming I would call the 600 a little light and use some round built for this kind of thing. But the 600 out of a hand held rifle it’s is big, but there are others like the 700 Nitro it’s bigger brother, the 416 beret and the 50 BMG are more powerful and are put in rifles weighing about 35 pounds. Or the best for the job .577 tyrannosaurus a round built to take care of a T. rex
I don't understand why people say this movie is bad. It's not better than the first one, but it's still a good movie. Edit 6:02 - I wasn't the only one !
Back in the day I never hated this film, I just thought it was above average. But after the travesties of the Jurassic World films I've started giving this film appreciation.
I'm glad, someone did this video. I like nostalgia critic, but his video about The Lost World infuriated me for ages, especially since I know, that he can easily see good writing and messages in films, he's reviewing
It's currently in appeal which is like the 2nd level of fighting a copyright claim. Hopefully Universal realizes the error of their ways but if not then there's a 3rd level.
4:06 The effects in this movie are great, but the effects in all the Jurassic Park/World movies are great except for JP3, and don't say "They use too much CGI" as I believe if the CGI is good then the effects still qualify as good.
Ian did know about the worker at the start, that’s why Genarro and him were at the park because the death of that worker scared the investors and the workers family sued the park
That's the reason why Gennaro brought him, but it's also why Hammonf brought Grant and Sattler yet they were never told. At least not on screen. So we can't assume he knew.
Either way, he technically didn't witness any of these deaths. (He didn't see Jophrey die, he was covered by leaves and possibly unconscious when Gennaro died, he didn't see Arnold or Muldoon die, and nobody knew what happened to Nedry until Jurassic Park: The Game). Either way, he count a lot better than Doug can. 😂
The biggest problem I have with Nostalgia critic is that if he doesn’t like a movie he’ll barely admit anything in it is good. He’s kinda all or nothing. Lost World is massively underrated.
The Lost World is one of those movies that I like when I first watch it, then change my opinion because of a few people, and then started to like it again for myself with the reviews of other people. However, I still prefer Crichton's novel. I liked the idea of the predatory dinosaurs having their established territories, which are respected by each animal, and the protagionists running into one after another. The Rexes don't follow the hunters into the long grass which are infested with raptors (like how in the novel the Rexes and Raptors tried to stay clear from the Carnotarus' territory, despite the Rexes trying to pursue and the Raptors being bloodthirsty).
28:38 I think the reason the Rex didn’t attack them was because she wasn’t quite sure what she was smelling, since they were covered in mud while in the middle of a hurricane which has it’s own unique odor.
I'd argue with the scene of Rexy escaped, ate the lawyer, and sniffed Alan and Lex that it should also be noted that it was raining at the time. Rain could easily mask their scent from Rexy as rain has a distinct odor, Petrichor. Edit: 30:04 I really have to disagree here because the T. rex was chasing the group through a narrow raven, thus it was walking instead of running because it was trying not to fall or bumped into a wall. Rexy in the first movie had wide open space to run. Not really much a valid criticism as you said considering the setting they were in.
thought it was a solid film growing up, it isn't until the internet days that I'm seeing it wasn't liked. I don't remember any discussion of it being bad throughout the late 90s and 2000s, honestly.
Also, I know shinobi mentioned this before but since the video is no longer on youtube I might at least bring it up. The reason the female tyrannosaurus was moving a bit slow when chasing the hunters was because of the terrain she was in as there where rocks and wet mud that could cause the female Rex to slipped. And after rewatching it you can tell the rex was being careful with her movement.
Yeah Nostalgia Critic goes with the character nit pickiness and it gets a bit annoying to sometimes hair pulling, and indeed it is hard to find what fine lines are where. He has some good points at times I found in some other videos and they were comedic but in other videos some comments feel so underserved at times.
About the original the og Rex couldn't smell them probably because it was raining and they were covered in mud which didn't help. So that's worth considering. I also hate how the newer movies none of the good guys get killed the dinosaurs just go after the bad guys, how would they know who is good and who is bad? They're dinosaurs they just kill whoever is unlucky enough to be around!!!
Why do the good guys have to die? Innocent people also died, so was that also a mistake? And you're right, dinosaurs CAN'T tell the difference; they just eat whatever they can, including humans. Also, NONE of the good characters got away without a bruise or a scratch.
@@monsterhanna6691 I'm referring to Eddie's death in The Lost World. It seems like we don't have deaths like that anymore, at the end of Dominion it's like 8 or 9 good guys standing in a group and it feels like one of them should have at least died? That's what it felt like for me at least.
I noticed around the 29 minute mark that the Critic makes a remark about the T-Rex being a decendent of mosquitoes. I don’t know if that was a gaff, but if not then it shows just how little attention he pays to the movies he covers.
I think that was just intended to be a more joking way to reference how the dinosaurs had to be replicated from partially degraded DNA inside mosquitoes, hence “their genes got f*cked somewhere”.
To be fair, I would say Lost World is bad simply because of how much they didn't adapt from the novels, even though that's nothing new, but Michael Crichton did write the novel FOR Spielberg to adapt specifically and when he didn't Crichton just gave up entirely. However with that being said, it's still probably my favorite out of the original 3 films even with it's flaws since it gave us even more Dinosaurs than the first film, but I would lying to say it wasn't ultimately a letdown from what we were supposed to get originally.
I think people who hate on the Lost World don't like it because ITS A SEQUEL and either they miss the good parts and only focus on the bad parts, or they're blinded by nostalgia of the first movie.
@@redraptorwrites6778 I think it’s funny how the series is called Jurassic Park when the majority of its dinosaurs lived in the Cretaceous. Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Velociraptor, and Parasauropholus (that’s an inside joke) all came from the Cretaceous, while only Brachiosaurus & Dilophosaurus are from the Jurassic. I guess Cretaceous Park doesn’t roll off the tongue as nicely.
I did not see this coming at all and I didn’t knew this would happen but great video analysis and response of Nostalgia Critic’s Review of The Lost World Jurassic Park and I definitely respect your opinions on the Jurassic World Movies as I mentioned.
Not even a NC fan since I was like 13 but you must understand that a lot of his reviews are just poking fun and having a laugh, not serious criticisms.
Ok, here's the deal with the T. rex chasing the humans in the ravine while "apparently" running slow: she was trying to single out one individual that she could chomp down on, but all of the humans were huddled close together while they ran. She was clearly looking for a straggler to pick out from the crowd. Also, the fact that they were running through a ravine and not a wide open space would also mean that she had to be careful while chasing her prey. I mean, she could've easily tripped on something without warning, or scratch against the ravine wall, and with little room to move around, it made sense for her to not go so fast. The T. rex in the first film, on the other hand, had a wide open road while chasing after the jeep, with little stopping her, which explains why she was able to keep pace with the car.
Much like a wise man said: "In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so."
my friend went afk on a discord vc and I started watching this while he was gone and when he came back he heard “not even purple guy could...” and then it cut off
Your take on this film and the in universe events makes the Jurassic World movies even more easy to hate. Well done. It seems Fallen Kingdom attempted the idea of mankind's hubris with Claire and others, but it still failed overall. (Key word is attempted)
30:04 There is an explanation here. In Jurassic Park, the chase scene took place on a wide open dirt road where the Tyrannosaurus was chasing a single object, in the Lost World’s chase scene, the Doe T-Rex was in a more confined space where she’s chasing down multiple targets at the same time. If you were an 8 1/2 ton dinosaur and you had to hunt down a crowd of humans in a confined space, it would make sense to not run at top speed to avoid the risk of accidentally twisting your own ankle or getting seriously injured.
I left this comment on the last version of the video so I'll repost it here in case anyone wanted to know. Roland's gun isn't actually a shotgun, it's a double rifle. Double rifles were originally intended for hunting elephants and as an experienced game hunter, Roland would have known it was a good choice for something as big as the Rex and also is a subtle hint at his personality since his main weapon was intended for hunting an endangered species and is impractical for anything else. Just like him it's only purpose on the island is to kill a Rex for the trophy.
You seriously are not a know-it-all. Most competent critics, even ones who don't hold TLW in high regards, avoid the trappings of the Nostalgia Critic. Doug Walker's brand is anti-intellectual. That's the truth of it and his most infuriating issue.
I agree with most of the things you say, but the critic is right about one thing. It is true that the dinosaurs sense of smell gets conveniently forgotten when the plots needs it. Both in the original movie and the sequels, the raptors and rexes can only smell people when the script wants them to.
A little thought I had about Eddie Carr (The doughy guy) yes he’s a character clearly there to be eaten, a redshirt with a rifle. But honestly I think they did a decent job giving him some character before his death. Like with Nick he made it clear he was there for the money, as a tech savvy guy he was understandably annoyed by anyone who didn’t treat his equipment correctly, his description of the deadliness of his rifle is delivered emotionless and matter of fact; he’s not a gun loving lunatic, he’s a professional describing what he’s brought to keep everyone safe. He isn’t the most talkative or social but when his team were in trouble, he took action and did his best to save them and succeeded even though it cost him his life, he could’ve been another Donald Gennaro running for his life leaving everyone in danger before getting eaten anyway. Malcolm said it best: “Just fed? I assume you're talking about Eddie? You might show a little more respect, the man saved our lives by giving his.”
Also, look at his expression when he saw the dinosaurs being mistreated. Or when he handed the phone over to Kelly so that she could talk to Malcolm. Clearly, he's not an asshole.
37:07 Yes, an escaped Tyrannosaurus Rex with no idea what the hell is going on is “playing”. The San Diego incident actually lines up with what Ellie said in Jurassic Park about bringing dinosaurs back to a different century they’re not used to and having to violently defend themselves if necessary.
Doug Walker just has a weird old man mindset that he’s right on things he doesn’t like some of the time. In his Fallen Kingdom reaction/review, he mocked the movie for playing the Brachiosaurus death as a sad scene because the dinosaurs were just trying to kill everybody the scene before. This is obviously wrong bc the dinosaurs mostly fled the volcano and that’s also wrong bc obviously Brach is a herbivore. “Veggiesaurus, Lex!” On his Twitch stream, I pointed out that the Brach was a herbivore and didn’t try to kill anybody. But he shook his head and said he had no sympathy because the dinosaurs were just trying to kill people like he wasn’t listening. He’s just kinda set in his ways and that includes doing almost nothing but hating the other JP films besides the original.
His main issue is that he seems to think every dinosaur is the same species, like different breeds of dog, for example. Yeah... and bats and elephants are basicallly the same thing.
25:36 imagine if during fallen kingdom when owen was floping away from the lava, he was being attacked by compies and had to fight them off with a stick with the lava oozing closer then in the nick of time he regains use of his legs and is able to run away, and no music during the entire scene like the best suspensful scenes in the jurassic park franchise. It would have been way better than what we got, but that's really the only scene I have a problem with in that movie. P.S.my man rollands gun is an elliphant gun that shoots .600 nitro express, not a shot gun
In order from best to worst, in my opinion: Jurassic Park The Lost World: Jurassic Park Jurassic World Jurassic World: Dominion Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Jurassic Park III
Currently, this is how I would categorize my general experiences with each film: *10/10* Jurassic Park *8/10* The Lost World: Jurassic Park Jurassic World *7/10* Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom *6/10* Jurassic Park III Jurassic World Dominion *Note:* My scale is calibrated to even accommodate infamously bad films like “The Room” and “Birdemic” (respectively being 2/10 and 1/10), so even a difference of just one point is significant, and heavily flawed blockbusters like JW Dominion can still get relatively high ratings.
10:43 holy crap your right, she thinks she’s a expert on these genetic engineered animals because she’s studied African predators(Sarah Honey, the predators on Isla Sorna would be using lion bones to pick their teeth 😂) and yet her ego and belief over belief in her own expertise closer to think she understands predators as if they were the real thing but they’re not they’re genetically engineered dinosaurs not the true once existed during the Mesozoic. And later this comes back to Hunter as the tea Rex infants parrots follow her back and nearly get her and everyone else killed I wish this story arc of hers was more verbally explored.
I would make another tier for "Great dinosaur documentaries" and put walking with dinosaurs and ballad of big Al there. Even though outdated it's still holds up for Best Dinosaur Documentary 🦖🦕
I think your comment is heavily nostalgia biased, im not trying to actively destroy you opinion, im just going to make some arguments that COULD change you mind -the theropod designs are messed up as heck -narrators keep on praising the jurassic. -featherless ornitholestes (feathered dinos were alredy a thing at that time) -Many animals are out of time and out of place. And last but not least... *2 5 M E T E R 1 5 0 T O N L I O P L E U R O D O N*
@@Ledinosour673 Yeah but still Walking With Dinosaurs 🦖 is a cult classic dinosaur Documentary. I should have some praise. And also for Big Al, i really loved that spin off. I really understand all these downsides but this documentary is one of the greats, even outdated And i too kinda agree that the *2 5 M E T E R L I O P L E U R O D O N* Is in accurate on all levels
Im also sad that many youtubers and others say this has none of the charme or magic or good characters and set pieces of the first movie cause recently I watch someone rank every steven spielberg film and they were harsh on the film like I know everyone has their own opinion but like come on calling this film that didn't even try to be good is just heartbreaking for me
29:30 Also, the current environment they were in, it was raining hard when T-Rex was attacking them, the rain would make it difficult to pick up their scent due to smell of rain. I always took that scene as T-Rex got close to Alan and Lex, she was able to pick up the scent, but she wasn't sure what she was smelling.
THANK YOU. I enjoy Doug's reviews, but he often relies on hyperbolic criticism for entertainment value, and this (admittedly old) review is a perfect example of that. I love Spielberg's two Jurassic films, and TLW had always been my favorite of the two when I was a kid.
I never got the appeal of nostalgia critic because frankly he's not a good critic. He is terrible at following a story accurately and seeing through nuance in a film. And there's so many times that he seems like an idiot when he accuses a film of doing something that doesn't make sense when really...it's just him that doesn't get it.
This kind of stuff is why I prefer to make my own opinion of movies, people have different perspectives/standard and it should be taken in account before claiming a critic is objective
33:47 critic here, those are not shotgun shells, thats not a shotgun. thats a double rifle often used for the african big 5. when hunting african big game many hunters prefer double rifles because of the quick follow up shot compared to bolt action rifles. they appear to be .500 nitro express by the looks of the shell case. a shotgun is not going to bring down reliably such big game as a trex.
Honestly when I watched his video so I understand what is going on, all I saw was this random guy attacking TLW, I was like "ugh, when is it gonna be over so I can watch red raptor writes's video?" But honestly I get SOME (only a few tbh) of the things he criticized but the movie was amazing, half the things he said didn't make sense, and he attacked poor Jeff Goblum just for the way he talks (I donno if that's how he really talks or is it just acting, but don't make fun of people just for the way they talk)
5:42 so, let me get this straight, the nostalgia critic thinks the lost world is worse than the first movie, but has a problem with something taken from the book the first movie was based on?
I think Ludlow was an interesting character, the spurned nephew of a "great" man always chasing his tail. The cut scene where he broke the baby leg makes me hate him so much. The Jurassic movies need a super hateable villain
Jurassic Park you have the T-rex running in a clear open road. In Lost world the T-rex is running on a dense tight forest corridor, full of logs, stones and mud (raining) All of this is perfectly capable to slow down a predator. For some reason cheetahs live in open savannas.
Tigers?

@@maxrichards3881 We weren't talking about long distances, we're talking about a sprint for a slower prey through a dense jungle. My point is that the jungle doesn't inhibit a tiger
When the Trex is chasing the humans in the revene I was always under the impression that the revene is narrow and the t rex is being carful so she doesn't trip and hurt herself, she's not a rampaging monster but a predator who is smart enough to avoid getting injured as we all know a injury no matter how minor can be deadly to a 8 ton tyrannosaurus
Yeah, especially as a 8-ton biped would probably suffer immense injuries from any fall ^^'
And frankly, a bunch of snacks is not worth risking your life XD
On top of that I was under the impression that the Rex was attacking out of defense due to the baby rexs blood being in the area and she wanted to attack the "predators"
Actually the Tyrannosaurus that was in San Diego was the buck (which is male) not coming at any of yall.
That’s what I thought when this point was brought up. Can people run just as fast through dense woodland as on a running track or on an open field?
Plus look at 80’s slashers, the victims screaming and running with the killer just casually walking and still catching up to them without breaking a sweat 😂

And I did quite enjoy the finale, it felt somewhat unique having a dinosaur in a city.
The cliff scene was also quite intense and well done.
Because this is an unforseen consequence"
that was a scared animal panicking when it was dropped suddenly into an alien environment
Not to mention that the Rex is borderline overdosing on stimulants that were intended to wake it up after it conversely almost died from the sedatives in the tranquilizers earlier. Not only is it lost and confused, it's also high

And yet, he still has some fantastic funny lines in this one too.
I never thought about Nick being like old Ian. I wonder if Ian himself even noticed that as well.

Speaking of karma, they should have kept the infamous deleted scene that explained how Junior Rex got his leg broken:
After Roland & Ajay took him from
the Rex Nest and set him up as bait for the Tyrannosaur Buck, Ludlow showed up; drunk after he 'opened a case of scotch and had a good day'. And as he argued with Roland on whether the plan will work or not, Ludlow got spooked by something that ran past his leg which caused him to fall on top of Junior and breaking his leg, which clearly upsets Roland (with him quoting George Orville in the 4-issue comic book adaptation).
Had they kept the deleted scene and the original music cue "Ludlow's End", then Ludlow getting injured by Buck
and being Junior's first kill would have been much more satisfying.
Agreed they should’ve left that scene in because it would’ve added so much to Roland’s and Ludlow’s characters.
Doug is was one of the most inept film reviewers on the platform, I'm ashamed I used to be such a huge fan of his, he's nothing but an embarrassing memory to me now..
IDG what the hate is about. The fact that it featured 3 Rexes already made it just as epic as Jurassic Park.
"Haha, the raptor felled for hey, you"
Does Doug thinks that raptors speak english? Like, I'm pretty sure most dogs don't understand "Hey, you", but somehow that raptor who never encountered any humans understood it? XD
I love The Lost World, ever since I was a kid it's always been my favorite JP film out of them all and it still is today. Somewhere I've even still got the little 3D card that came with the VHS tape.
Similar to what I said on the original Rolland dose respect the T- Rex calling him “the greatest predator that ever lived.”

But your note of Van Owen’s mentality in removing the bullets from the casing (which is also a genius idea that often goes under the radar) was a very fair assessment.

Which on average is put in 10-13 pounds guns and is well over 7k per rifle, so a pretty good choice for a T. rex

The effects in this movie are great, but the effects in all the Jurassic Park/World movies are great except for JP3, and don't say "They use too much CGI" as I believe if the CGI is good then the effects still qualify as good.
Either way, he count a lot better than Doug can. 😂
the lost world still stickes as my favorite beaceas of the way they bring the dinosaurs to life
The biggest problem I have with Nostalgia critic is that if he doesn’t like a movie he’ll barely admit anything in it is good.
Great to see that you were able to upload the video back, and sad that you had to do the hard work of editing again.
Thanks! It was very stressful but thankfully you can see it again.
28:38 I think the reason the Rex didn’t attack them was because she wasn’t quite sure what she was smelling, since they were covered in mud while in the middle of a hurricane which has it’s own unique odor.
I can see a predator getting confused from the different smells that aren't adding up to them.
Fascinating idea!
The internet doesn't always show the audience's real perspective on things.
Indeed. I wish those videos were still on the website, though, I have a couple of them saved.
The transition from the woman screaming to Jeffs yawn, represents chaos breaking out, and who do we think of when we hear "chaos"?
That’s what makes it so great, and Doug missed it completely…
Your video is so awesome. I love how thorough and articulate you are when defending the quality of the lost world.

Nostalgia critic calling the original Jurassic park “a basic fun survival movie” is the most pretentious thing I’ve ever heard 😂

The Lost World has its flaws but miraculously Doug managed to create an even more flawed review.
You seriously are not a know-it-all. Most competent critics, even ones who don't hold TLW in high regards, avoid the trappings of the Nostalgia Critic. Doug Walker's brand is anti-intellectual. That's the truth of it and his most infuriating issue.
OMG, again! Does Universal hate you that much? This is ridiculous!
I agree with most of the things you say, but the critic is right about one thing. It is true that the dinosaurs sense of smell gets conveniently forgotten when the plots needs it. Both in the original movie and the sequels, the raptors and rexes can only smell people when the script wants them to.
38:59 I think he watched Jurassic Park 3 instead of The Lost World Jurassic Park.
2:17 how did Spielberg convince him to do it? The man must be great negotiator(is the book even good?)
35:36 wait so John Hammond's actor is David Attenborough's brother
Doug Walker just has a weird old man mindset that he’s right on things he doesn’t like some of the time.
In his Fallen Kingdom reaction/review, he mocked the movie for playing the Brachiosaurus death as a sad scene because the dinosaurs were just trying to kill everybody the scene before. This is obviously wrong bc the dinosaurs mostly fled the volcano and that’s also wrong bc obviously Brach is a herbivore. “Veggiesaurus, Lex!”
On his Twitch stream, I pointed out that the Brach was a herbivore and didn’t try to kill anybody.
They pressured Crichton into writing a sequel and then ignored 99% of it.
I personally loved Jurassic World Dominion and I’m sorry that you didn’t enjoy it much, but I also absolutely loved The Lost World Jurassic Park.
Yeah I loved it too. I would watch all of the cannon movies and series in order even jp3. They aren't that bad to me
In order from best to worst, in my opinion:
Jurassic Park
The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Jurassic World
Jurassic World: Dominion
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Jurassic Park III
Currently, this is how I would categorize my general experiences with each film:
*10/10*
Jurassic Park
*8/10*
The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Jurassic World
*7/10*
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
*6/10*
Jurassic Park III
Jurassic World Dominion
*Note:* My scale is calibrated to even accommodate infamously bad films like “The Room” and “Birdemic” (respectively being 2/10 and 1/10), so even a difference of just one point is significant, and heavily flawed blockbusters like JW Dominion can still get relatively high ratings.
@@markcobuzzi826 that’s fair.
@@callsignmaverick3979 That's a pretty fair ranking. Mine would go (Top to bottom)
JP, FK, TLW, JW, JWD and JP3.
I think your comment is heavily nostalgia biased, im not trying to actively destroy you opinion, im just going to make some arguments that COULD change you mind
-the theropod designs are messed up as heck
-narrators keep on praising the jurassic.
-featherless ornitholestes (feathered dinos were alredy a thing at that time)
-Many animals are out of time and out of place.
I really understand all these downsides but this documentary is one of the greats, even outdated
And i too kinda agree that the *2 5 M E T E R L I O P L E U R O D O N* Is in accurate on all levels
Need to do one for JP3, he has a clear trex bias in that video.
Haha spino go snapp
I’m glad you made this video. NC’s Lost World review is literally impossible for me to sit through. I love NC but The Lost World is great!
I love Roland he’s story arch deserves more time.
I think Ludlow was an interesting character, the spurned nephew of a "great" man always chasing his tail.
The cut scene where he broke the baby leg makes me hate him so much. The Jurassic movies need a super hateable villain
Actualy that scene where t rex ate the dog is somekind of revenge because when steven was little kid he got bitten by dog
