No matter what generations of an F1 car is,these cars are honestly just a technological marvel whether it is a V10 powered car or the current the V6 hybrid turbo

Manual gear shifting in the pre mid 90's sounds like hell compared to today.

Pre mid 90s? So the early 90s?

What are the differences between f1 transmission system and dual clutch transmission?

    • @michaeldavis2531

Contrary to popular belief, Formula One cars use single-clutch, seamless-shift sequential transmissions, with no momentary loss of power to the drive wheels, and the clutch and shifting use electrohydraulic actuation. The clutch is only needed when starting from stationary, and after that, the clutch is automatically actuated each time a gear shift is inputted by the driver, via electrohydraulics or pneumatics. As Martin said, gears are chosen sequentially, and the sequential transmissions are much faster than the H-pattern stick-shift, simply because you don't have to depress the clutch or blip the gas every time you upshift or downshift, since the ECU and TCU control everything. There also better than a conventional H-pattern stick shift, in the sense that you can't skip gears, i.e., you must shift through all 7 or 8 gears in a sequence, preventing you shifting into the wrong gear and blowing the tranny or engine. These transmissions also use a dog engagement rather than the syncromesh engagement used in road cars, like Martin said.

An F1 car transmission is a more advanced version of a motorcycle transmission. A dual clutch is two manual transmissions combined into one with odd and even gears controlled by their own clutch.

3:01 I can't help but see this and laugh, do they think F1 electronic controllers would be surface mount style circuit boards🤣

So how old is this vid? I think these days the clutch is not released at all in a gearshift. Clutch is only used to go neutral and to get moving. The gears are basically forced in while driving. One could compare this to a motorcycle clutchless shifting, principle is the same, only its automated completely (gearshift, throttle).

Tells you about how human fingers work but nothing about how the transmission works
