    I would love to see you test the flagship offerings from AirPura and AllerAir. These units use massive amounts of carbon filtration to tackle VOCs (up to 5 times the carbon in the IQ Air MultiGas and up to 10 times the carbon in the IQ Air Health Pro +). In addition, these companies go as far as customizing the carbon blend to work best in their intended environment.

    REALLY loved this test and your reasonable room seeding levels of 225K (versus 100's of millions)! Also loved the charts easily depicting curves that show the Molekule is quite the poor performer. What further raised an eyebrow was that the IQAir did worse than the Enviroklenz in the Ammonia and Hydrogen Sulfide filtration but decidedly won removing Formaldehyde from the air. Makes me think that the IQAir would do very well in funeral homes.

    • @MikeTrieu
      @MikeTrieu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      IQAir also has a more expensive multi-gas model that would have gone toe-to-toe with the Enviroklenz. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they're using the exact same materials.

    Hi, I just found your channel searching about carbon filters. I have a longer test suggestion for measuring carbon filters lifetime, just measure their weight when they brand new and the next week and so on when the filters don't gain more weight that's the time to replace them.
    This would be valuable data for future costumers, do these filters last for half a year (usual replacement suggestion) or just a month, time to find out.
    My little 13x13cm carbon filters what I use for soldering fume extraction are weigh 10g brand new and 13g when they are full.

    I'd love to see a comparison against /or a stand alone review of the iqair healthproplus. I don't think anything is going to beat that due to the combined media sizes.. Nothing else seems to come close - they rate their particle removal down to .003 micron! Iqair doesn't have UV sterilization though, which seems more important these days.. Other features like a timer and an air quality sensor to ramp the turbine up and down would be a nice at that price!

    • @GRossney3
      @GRossney3 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      if you look at the charts, they tested an IQAir system and the results on Formaldehyde are AMAZING. Formaldehyde is a bigger problem in homes than ammonia. Also, the IQAir on it's highest speed is rated at 300 CFM and 59 db, while the enviroklenz is 62 CFM at 70 db

    • @MikeTrieu
      @MikeTrieu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@GRossney3 What that's telling me is that CADR doesn't mean much for VOC removal. Perhaps the zeolite or whatever "natural minerals" that are in their filters need a longer "dwell time" to effectively adsorb those gases and the lower flow rate is a conscious design decision to accommodate that technology. Maybe what households actually need are two separate purifiers: a high throughput one for particulate matter and another slower one for VOC elimination.

    • @GRossney3
      @GRossney3 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MikeTrieu Actually AHAM's CADR test doesn't test for VOC Removal at all. The three numbers are based on particulate size.

    Regarding the VOC tests don't you think the airflow direction of the two units has something to do with the results? The molekule draws the air in at the bottom so the fumes would be flowing past the sensor, the envrioklenz draws air in at the top pushes clean air out the bottom near the sensor. ??

  • @joa8593
    @joa8593 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'd be very interested to see more testing of other novel tech for VOCs. Confined Oxidation (Westinghouse's NCCO) and visible-light catalysis of sorbed VoCs (Sharp's tungsten catalyst on carbon) have a similar idea: destroying VOCa that are adsorbed. The concern with every tech that breaks down VOCs is often more harmful chemicals are created along the way so doing it while confined to sorbtive media makes sense as a solution.

      If the density of their filter media is greater than even an IQAir, then maybe their air scrubbing will be more efficient, albeit slower. I'm of the mindset that you start getting diminishing returns in terms of cleaning efficiency once you get past a certain CFM, depending on the depth/density of the filter media.

      @sycksyn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just following up and hoping you'll make more purifier tests in the future. Huge fan of your vacuum testing and would love to see the same level of care to purifiers. I currently rely on a Lasko $15 box fan ontop of four 3M Merv 13 filters due to the amount of CFM it's able to pull through the 20x20x1 filters due to their large surface area. Obviously not the most beautiful product but tough to beat for effective air filtering and price.
      I would also like to point out that you made the statement that more filter media requires a stronger fan to pull through but this is actually not true. There is less static pressure when you increase the surface area of the filter. Do to these filters have a much larger surface area with bigger pleats actually makes it easier on the fan to force it's CFM through the filter. This is why a 4" filter in 20x20 has less static pressure than the same filter in 20x20x1. Now if you stack 20x20x1 filters you would increase the static pressure because the pleat sizes are not increasing with the depth increase.

    • @Campos2011
      @Campos2011 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know your comment is old but from the looks of it, it has to be manually turned on with the knob that has 4 settings. For the price you would think they could include a timer or scheduler. One thing that could be done is to buy a plug timer that you can set schedules on (about $25) and have the purifier set on whatever fan level you want then the wall socket timer will kick it on. A air quality meter that kicks the unit on would be cool, like the Molekule.

    More filter media means easier airflow, not harder.
    Also, "X is 71% slower than Y" and "Y is 71% faster than X" are not synonymous statements. Ratios don't work that way.
    For example: 3 is 50% bigger than 2 (3/2=1.5), so 3 is 50% larger than 2.
    But 2 is only 66% as big as 3 (2/3=66.66), so 2 is 33% smaller than 3.
    Marketers abuse math like this all the time to lie to people.
