This is a great unit.... however, the deal breaker is the fact that if I'm paying a gillion dollars for this unit why have they STILL not incorporated an auto air quality function???!!!.... I don't want his machine running 24/7 if it doesn't have to. I own a few units (not naming brands) that work perfectly... very close to these scores and have auto air quality modes. So yeah, not paying a ton of money (not even including filter replacements) for a machine that can't detect air quality.... I don't care if it's able to clean the dirtiest of air. Honestly, at this point it's my opinion that they're pushing products solely on brand. I've been following this product for years and they haven't improved on the basics... so, not getting my money
Why do you care if it runs often? I've had mine on for 10 years continously level 1 or 2. If the air is already clean it's not clogging the filters by running, and the air movement and sound is very pleasant and very low wattage.

There are a few on the market that you haven't compared, so it's not a fair statement to say "best on the market." You should really test the Airpura, which has far more carbon. The incense smoke test(you should really test with cigarette smoke which has even more harmful chemicals) should be interesting between the multigas and the Airupura.
Did I miss it, or did you not go into filter replacement times/cost on this one? I'm betting that those 4 cartridges don't come cheap. Also, I love the AI art outro you've been doing. edit: Found the replacement filter online. 400€ for a set - though at least it's supposed to last two years, give or take half a year.
Cheap air purifiers actually have very expensive filters. The IQ Air HealthPro filters seem expensive but they last 2-4 years (premax 1.5 yrs, carbon 2 yrs, hyper hepa 4 yrs), so it comes out to about $200/year. I have a cheaper Bissell Air400 and its filters last 3-6 months come to $150/year and it has nowhere near the speed and efficiency of the IQ Air.

i guess my main thing is, if an air purifier reduces VOCs by 100% over a period of time, does it really matter how quickly that happens? in a home or office environment, you would have this running for a long time and it would just aid in keeping VOCs low. I'm moving to korea soon, so i guess i'm more worried about cleaning up the air after i open the door, not clearing VOCs instantly.
I own a resin 3d printer and have no space for it other than in my bedroom. I can’t be in my room without a respirator until the VOC level is back to normal. Having a purifier that clears the room this fast so I can get back to doing things without a respirator (sleep) would be amazing

I was very worried about it for a while but it seems like it hasn’t been a problem. I have my resin printer in a grow tent now to isolate it (with an exhaust fan so there’s negative pressure inside the tent). That helped a ton.
I have owned 2 Healthmates for 16 years and have used an IQAir HealthPro Plus for 10 and the IQAir HealthPro Plus filters particles better. The GC is a BEAST for VOCs and filters VOCs better than Austin Air.

Testing air purifiers really needs to be left to the professionals/experts who do it for a living - in professional chambers/testing labs, IMO. I do not feel I am qualified to do these tests. Accurate Testing for VOC's is expensive when done by expert testing labs. It is not a simple thing to do + a lot of the testers/sensors being used on TH-cam these days for these 'general' air purifier tests are probably not super accurate. I'm gonna eventually do some videos comparing some of the results of some different testers/sensor units/brands and you'll see - they can come up with very different results sitting in the exact same room at the same time. One sensor says the air quality is 'Good' and a different brand says it's 'Fair' or even 'Poor', LOL! I've dealt with both the GC and Austin Air units for several years and have spoken with many customers who have used both. Had a gentleman/customer say a school bus would sit outside his home for 15 minutes every day and their house would smell like "Diesel Fuel"... They begged the school district to reroute the bus but to no avail. It was so bad they were about to try to sell the home and move. So, in their last ditch effort to try to fix the situation - they bought a GC unit and called back 2 days later ecstatic saying it completely fixed the problem and they were grateful. Austin is a good unit but it would not have been successful in that situation, IMO. I've had Austins returned for odor issues that were not nearly as intense as that environment. The only other brand that I have experience with that rivals the GC unit for VOC absorption is Airpura out of Canada - they are carbon experts and I do believe some of their solutions could challenge the GC for VOC absorption. Austin probably does filter at a HEPA level (99.97% down to .3 microns) but the GC only does 99% down to .3 microns - so I think Austin would probably filter the larger particles better. That said, the GC is supposed to filter 95% of the UltraFine particles (down to .003 microns) so... that seems impressive, I think, but IDK what percentage the Austin filters the Ultrafine particles. Ultrafine particles are the MOST hazardous to our health and represent 90% of all the particles in our air. Of Note: The IQAir HealthPro Plus filters 99.97% down to .3 microns (HEPA) AND 99.5% down to .003 which is CRAZY and yes, better than the GC unit. Now, if I were going to try to do a DIY solution for VOCs then I would probably buy the 5 Gallon bucket of Therma-Stor Activated Carbon/Potassium Permanganate - 4024528. Thermastor would sell it so customers could put it on the Pre-Filter of the Santa Fe Classic dehumidifier and as the air passed through the top of the MERV prefilter with the carbon sitting on top of it - it would help take out odors. I'd probably need a 3rd party EN 1822 certificate on the particulate filtration side (showing it did a good job of particle filtration) but even then - how would I know it isn't generating dangerous VOCs/chemicals? Nice review. However it fails to mention the running costs. Your average consumer is probably much better off by buying two fairly good units rather than just one of these. And the running costs would probably be less overall with better overall coverage
90% of the particles in the air we breathe are Ultra Fine particles and smaller than HEPA. + they are the MOST dangerous to us. Therefore, having a solution that filters them well IS worth the money and as we receive more data on how badly Ultra Fine particles injure our health in the long term - the correct choice will become more obvious. It will be a while before the EPA 'officially' lowers their acceptable air quality standards again - focusing more on Ultra Fine Particles. The EPA has lowered the acceptable levels of concentration for PM2.5 TWO TIMES in the past 11 years. They will lower it again in the future as they acquire and analyze more data. I guarantee it. 👍

Are filters in both models interchangeable? I already own Health Pro Plus but wanting to pull the trigger on GC but curious if my needs in the future change to deal with dust more than gases, will GC be able to take health pro plus filters? Also, when it comes removing dust, viruses and bacteria will GC performs as good as Health Pro Plus? Remember Health Pro Plus has a huge HEPA filter and pre filter, which gives it a little advantage over to GC. GC has a much smaller HEPA filter. So I am puzzled what to do. Until I realized something.... whenever the weather is cool enough(or warm enough in fall/winter months), I always keep all the windows of my house completely open because I prefer fresh outside air. My friend said that it would be pointless for me to get air purifiers. Is he right?
Yep. I have my bedroom window slightly open because my wife won't sleep "without fresh air" and the air purifier is completely useless. We keep our bedroom door closed and the air purifier is outside where it kind of works. Overworks
It wouldn't be completely pointless but you would see less results. Fresh air is the best period. An air purifier running will still capture some of the dust that will blow in and land on your floor and furniture. An air purifier can provide white noise and air movement. The VOC and gas capture would be pointless because fresh air coming in and out solves that. Personally, I turn off my air purifier when I have the windows open. Also, you can make a huge difference by using the highest FPR/MERV filters for your HVAC and change it on time.
standard hepa filters can (and will) catch particles smaller than .3 microns. .3 microns is the highest penetrating particle size. This is a tactique from iqair to try and boost their marketing but the performance between a normal hepa and iqair HEPA is essentially the same for a hoursehold.
You're wrong, multi gas doesn't have hyper hepa. Thus, it should not be as good as health pro in reducing PM. Your results are really surprising for me

the austin healthmate series has 15lbs of carbon and zeolite. it would be great to see a comparison with them involved too.

My friend said that it would be pointless for me to get air purifiers. Is he right?
Yep. I have my bedroom window slightly open because my wife won't sleep "without fresh air" and the air purifier is completely useless. We keep our bedroom door closed and the air purifier is outside where it kind of works. Overworks
It wouldn't be completely pointless but you would see less results. Fresh air is the best period. An air purifier running will still capture some of the dust that will blow in and land on your floor and furniture. An air purifier can provide white noise and air movement. The VOC and gas capture would be pointless because fresh air coming in and out solves that. Personally, I turn off my air purifier when I have the windows open. Also, you can make a huge difference by using the highest FPR/MERV filters for your HVAC and change it on time.

standard hepa filters can (and will) catch particles smaller than .3 microns.
.3 microns is the highest penetrating particle size.
This is a tactique from iqair to try and boost their marketing but the performance between a normal hepa and iqair HEPA is essentially the same for a hoursehold.
You're wrong, multi gas doesn't have hyper hepa. Thus, it should not be as good as health pro in reducing PM. Your results are really surprising for me

These air filters are just way too expensive, not to mention the costs to replace the 3 filters. But an interesting review just the same.
