If somebody is having trouble getting their external drive to show up on their Deck, make sure your bios settings are set so that USB drivers are supported. Great script! Saved me a lot of time. Subbed.
I love you so much it was a pain needing to go to desktop mode every time to mount my internal drive where most my games are works so well( playing ark ascended and it’s crashing like a pro so need to remount like mad)
Thanks dude this helped so much. The fstab way was so inconvenient because every time an update happens I have to do it all over again and won't work properly if I ever booted my deck without the sd card. edit: nvm I still need to use this script every time i get an update but it's much easier to use the script than editing the fstab every single time
Appears to work like a charm! I have a SteamOS partition (20gb), windows partition (30gb. Tiny11 + revi-os) and the remaining space is a gaming partition With this script it automatically mounts the game partition in SteamOS meaning it's basically seamless when switching between operating systems!
Hi I installed a 2tb ssd into the deck Used the steamOS resize and partitioned the drive for 400gb steam and the rest as an ext4 drive The drive doesnt appear in game mode and has to be mounted in desktop What am i doing wrong,is there no way to split my drive I tried the script,it rebooted, created the steam folder,is auto mounted in desktop, doesnt show up in gamemode :( Cheers
To me it seemed like it didn't work at first, but I entered Desktop Mode again, ran Steam and added a Library Folder in the SD Card just as I would normally do on a regular operating system. Afterwards, going back into Game Mode made the SD card appear in the Storage tab.
Question that I'm not smart enough to understand so ill leave it here for the future. You say that exFAT will not work because of some reason but after installation and testing my sd-card has a steam library folder and it automounted perfectly fine I'm getting mixed messages here... but it worked so who am i to complain in the end?
UPDATE: Thanks to the author, I got this working, even after reboot! After launching the script, if it doesn't appear, first, make sure its mounted in KDE partition manager to the correct location (as mentioned on the webpage) add the external manually in steam in desktop mode. As of 7 January 2024: Does not work. I ensured my NFTS External NVME was mounted to a location in KDE partition manager, afterwards, I ensured it was mounted. I then ran the script, restarted when prompted, and now my External does not show up under storage in gaming mode. When going back into desktop mode - KDE partition manager, it shows up while mounted. Is there an arch header, pacman, or AUR I am missing or does the script need updating? Not sure if I am missing something.
If its showing up in KDE manager as mounted then it probably also is in Gaming Mode and just isn't been added to Steam as a library, in Desktop mode you could open Steam > Settings > Storage and add the drive manually to Steam
is it possible to auto mount drives in desktop mode i have installed steam os on my pc and your drivers has mounted all of my drives except 1 witch is 4tb m.2 however i thing that drive might be faulty even my smb qnap files are linked
What changes to the script would I need to make for this to work with HoloISO and a username other than "deck"? Also.. I may have borked it up already. When I try to manually mount my internal drive, now all it says is something along the lines of "error mounting, wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda1 missing codepage or helper program or other error" Any advice? ^^;
It's not working for me. It doesn't show up after I reboot the system following the script installation. Everything else is fine, but it's not working after the reboot i mean the usb doesn’t show Btw this is my first time installing this so i dont have the old one
Great video. Quick question how do I delete auto mount the old script. For some reason when I plug in a external hard drive drive it appears for a few seconds then disappears
hi i have btrfs on external ssd i mounted drive by dolphin in gaming mode but your script is what i needed but now i have a problem because it shows the drive is mounted but i cannot access that. it says could not enter folder and not even show on steam as drive. Can you help?
i have issue with one of my m.2 drives if you switch to desktop mode open dolphin then click on drive it should ask you for password after you enter pas it will auto mount it i checked my drive in windows and has lot of bad sectors i would recommend you check yours too
You'll need to press "Enter" to run the command, either with an attached Keyboard or the On-screen Keyboard. Sorry if I didn't explain that part (or if you already tried that)
If someone is faced with the same problem as me, you need to manually specify the path where your external ssd will be mounted. in my case, the path was marked as none. You need to manually specify in KDE Partition Manager to get on your device on the dev/sda1 partition, click edit Mount Point in the Path column: specify the path, in my case I specified /run/media/deck/Dock/ and click Ok, Apply.
@@DenZet666 brother you saved me giving up on btrfs, i was confused by your instruction, but what it did was led me to simply unmount the drive in kde partition manager, then i could edit the mount point, which gives you an option to select a mount point. From there all i had to do was select my drive with my steamlibrary as the mount point, i also chose "users can mount and unmount" as one of the options i also chose identify by label for anyone reading this after that i checked my steam storage and the drive is auto mounted now, thanks to denzet666 tip and chinballs awesome software. getting "id: 'deck' : no such user"

doesn't work. it gives me operation cannot be completed and shows me a blank shared partition. uninstalled it to get my drive access back
Thank you it worked great!
Hi how to check is my SDcard in steam deck have any errors ? Something like in windows with CHKDSK.
I'm pretty late to answer this, but look into the fsck command! Probably just Google "fsck Steam Deck"

The old one should be uninstalled when you install the new version, you'll then also need to reboot, Let me know if this works!
So the mount worked, thank you! But now the sd card does not appear in gaming mode in Settings>Storage. Does anyone know how to fix this?
