its hardly that meta... I think Norm McDonald said it best: "Nothing looks dumber than if you parody self-parody. You really get caught not understanding." Casey's reaction to the whole joke that AI made a trite non-consequential vlog says more about him than it does the AI...
I made Chat GPT write this comment "I love how this video highlights the beauty and diversity of different cultures around the world. It's amazing to see people from different backgrounds come together and share their traditions and talents. The music is so catchy and upbeat, and the visuals perfectly capture the joy and energy of the performers. It's inspiring to see the positive impact that music and dance can have on bringing people together. Kudos to the performers and everyone involved in creating this wonderful showcase of cultures!"
Chatgpt is incredible in many ways. But it has a lot more to develop. Especially the UI structure. Read up that only 1 in 5 Americans really found it useful. Reason being - not easy to get the results you want due to the steep training curve of prompting the machine into doing exactly what you want it to do.
Casey continues to be an inspiration to me due to his creativity and style. Not sure I'd be working in the industry without his vlogs throughout high school and college
What I learned in watching Casey for the past 3 years is that his storytelling was his way of self expression and this entails that human touch which made it so authentic and to see AI try to do a story left a huge hole in the human touch part of Casey's videos, AI may be good at a lot of things but it can't replicate the human touch in art and in this context, storytelling.
I'm a programmer and from my POV, AI will definitely replace people. But, It will replace people who recreate, not innovate. I started using AI while programming recently, and it boosted my coding speed at least 3 times as I don't have to write boilerplates anymore.
Machines are our creation and will eventually become one of our descendants who will reach further in space than we ever will with our comparatively frail and limited bodies. I don't think replacement is the goal but rather an extension of it... Kinda like grandkids taking care of grandpa 😂
AI won't replace anything. There was the same identical craze around y2k when robots were first popularized globally and everyone lost their mind about robots replacing McDonald's employees, baristas, bakers...cashiers and whatnot. never going to happen. people dont want to be replaced and people will boycott if the ball ever starts rolling.
Almost every youtuber under a sun who is at least slightly relevant to technology had the same idea. I know that Casey is a very good content creator, but let's give him credit when he is really flexing his creative muscles. This was a layup for him, just saying.
This video is a masterpiece Casey, not because of what ChatGPT wrote, but because of your unique editing, tone and storytelling. Thank you for continuing to inspire us 👏🏻
I'm just impressed that AI knows you enough to even attempt this script. It may not have captured you perfectly right now but in 20 years ..... the possibilities are endless! I loved it! 😀
Nailed it. To be honest I can't imagine that it will ever get good enough to the point of telling a truly impactful and meaningful story. I just can't see how it can if it's trained on all stories. If so, who's qualifying what a good story is? Everyone has a different view so it's just this homogenized storyteller. That being said, I have been using GPT4 as one of my main tools for storytelling now and it definitely will get better. To your point in the end about prompts, I have spent time making seriously complex and dense prompts and have gotten good at it, and it still can't really tell a meaningful story I never expected it to. It's just a tool. I use it as a brainstormer, a collaborator, and a critic. I've always known I have to be the one to apply the meaning and impact to the story. I think of it like I'm the curator and the glue. I take all the disparate pieces and make something meaningful from it. In this context it's really no different than any other tool, this one just expedites your process.
Exactly... It wasn't that bad.... Plus... If you specify that for example.. Has to be funny... And prompts like that... It will get better... Chat GPT is awesome 🙌
thank you for saying this. Not gonna lie, I used chatgpt in some of my works too, but I don't 100% copy the output because it wont make me proud. I use it just like how i get ideas from other writers or artist and incorporate my own story
The way you execute on your ideas and how they turn out, man I can’t give enough applause. You’re just too damn good Casey, thanks for your efforts in making this
Casey vs Ai😅 not even in 1000 years, not even his regular followers can’t predict the next video. Chat GPT is good for amazon product description writing though 🤫
@PleaseDontSue if you are looking someone like that, internet is full of "creators" like that. Go enoy yourself. I rather wait a month and get 5 minutes of greatness that no one can copy. And at the end of the day, being mad at someone for not giving you a video every day while you dont pay s..t for him to actually do that, is idiotic to say the least. But as I said, a lot of people that are giving you what you want. To bad that their content is on a level of AI, but that's obviously what you like so do you boo boo.
I asked GPT-4 to write me a comment for this video and it said: "Wow, Casey! This is amazing! I can’t believe you used AI to make this vlog. It looks so realistic and professional. You are always pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation. I love how you incorporated your signature style and humor into this video. You are an inspiration to all of us aspiring vloggers. Keep up the awesome work!👏👏👏" Even the comment doesn't have soul...
Casey, your ability to capture the essence of everyday moments and turn them into cinematic adventures never ceases to amaze me. Your latest video not only inspired me to see the beauty in the ordinary but also motivated me to pursue my own passions with relentless dedication. Keep pushing boundaries and reminding us all to embrace life's adventures. Can't wait to see what you'll create next!
I'm with you Casey - innovation is an inherently human trait. Machines can create, invent, and produce, but they can never innovate. Because innovation requires depth.
Agree, he’s only down talking it because he’s either painfully unaware of how much of a generic formula his videos all have or he’s genuinely just that up his own ass (to put it lightly)
@@mymixedbiscuit9159 sounds like you're one of those depressing robot people, then. In a really pathetic , robotic way.
@@mymixedbiscuit9159 yeah and they're likely gonna be dogshit to the point where anyone with even a decent taste in music could tell the difference. Either way, practically all chord progressions and melodies that could be made have been made already. Ai is just gonna pull from that and try to make hits. A lot of people just take common chord progressions and try to make music with them, sometimes ending up with great creativity and soul and often times ending up being bland and soulless. It won't make a dent in the music world to the capacity that ai visual art already has the visual art world. Also i apologize, as i clearly misinterpreted the intention behind your comment.

Sounds like a boomer would type it. It is important to know how to talk with AI. If you know it is weird example, give it a better prompt - make it shorter and without being so lovely and grateful
AI told me to say this: "Casey, I must say, your latest vlog 'AI Made this VLOG' left me absolutely fascinated. It's incredible how you utilized AI technology to help create this piece of content. It really goes to show how we can harness the power of artificial intelligence to enhance our creative processes. Kudos to you for always being at the forefront of innovation!"
We tried something similar back in January by asking AI to plan our day ... while living it. It definitely has potential as support for travel vloggers and travelers in general. We had some fun filming it!
This was very interesting to see, Casey! I have been letting AI control my life and TH-cam channel this whole year, and it has actually helped me to make five AI-inspired vlogs so far this year! For me the key is to ask AI for an idea of what to vlog about, and then you can interact with AI during your vlog and ask for ideas and thoughts, but maybe just don't ask AI to write it word-for-word. I love watching your vlogs so this was very cool, and also you don't seem to need help with your vlogs anyways but I just wanted to share this in case you're interested : ) 🟢
Would you say your sense of satisfaction has gone down at all since you’ve been using the tools to get the job done? I think the effort part, although it’s hard is a big part of the dopamine reward system
Maybe I am wrong, but I thought the AI needed more input. So if he took 100 vlogs and the word content of those vlogs, provided that to AI and asked AI to use that wording of those vlogs to make and create another vlog in the style of those vlogs... would that work ?
I think Casey kind of perfectly described it, I always hated the idea of ai art but struggled to really reason “why” it doesn’t have a soul. Obviously you can feel it. But he put it perfectly, even if an ai creates a perfect exact same result as a human created. The human went through pain, went through happiness, struggled, worked so hard, improved, doubted themself, was influenced, was inspired. And because of all of those decisions they’ve made, experiences had, emotions felt, life lived. All of the accumulatively has led them to this moment of creating a piece of art. That matters to them, that is special to them, and really, is a piece of them painted on across a canvas. Even if an ai can replicate the exact result. Make the exact same painting, movie, sculpture, it didn’t go through all that. There’s no persona, no emotions, no life lived, and as he said, no soul. And that’s what’s most special to me. I just didn’t know how much the “soul” meant to me in art before there was art without it.
*Here is ChatGPT4’s response:* 🤓 It's great to hear that Casey Neistat experimented with using me to write the script for his vlog! It's important to note that the quality of the output largely depends on the input prompt. To improve the results, here are some suggestions for better prompts: 1. Be specific: Instead of giving a broad topic or idea, Casey could provide specific details or themes he wants to include in the vlog. For example, he could mention his desired video format, the target audience, or any key points he wants to cover. 2. Break it down: Instead of asking for an entire script in one go, he could break it down into smaller parts and give prompts for each section. This would allow for better control over the flow and content of the script. 3. Provide context: Sharing some context, such as the purpose of the vlog, any recent events or news, or his opinions on a subject, can help guide the script creation process. 4. Ask for iterations: Casey could request multiple script variations to explore different approaches or styles, allowing him to choose the one that fits his vision best. 5. Utilize follow-up prompts: After receiving an initial output, he could provide additional feedback or ask for revisions to refine the script. 6. Leverage my knowledge of his content: As an AI language model, I have knowledge of Casey Neistat's vlogs up until September 2021. He could remind me of his previous content and style to help tailor the script to his preferences. Remember, collaboration between AI and humans can lead to the best results. By providing clear and detailed prompts, Casey can ensure that the generated script aligns with his vision and helps him create engaging content for his audience.
I agree with GPT - Casey’s prompting did not do the system justice. I think the video was entertaining, but as an experiment it is ridden with confirmation bias. I would be interested in seeing Casey give this another honest go.
I like you guys' points, and I do think there is confirmation bias. However, to be fair, I think that's exactly what you would ultimately want and expect from AI, give it a simple prompt/task, get a comprehensive result delivered. The constant back and forth, and adjusted promting is reality, but not what you would envision approaching it with a blank slate, that is, without prior experience. :P
So, what's the point then? If I have to break it down, be specific, provide context, iterate, follow up, then I can just write the script myself. As a mater of fact, that's exactly what I would be doing , but telling the AI what to do instead of doing it myself.
@@ameladj66 What you just described is the creative process. These generative models are not "creative" (not yet, at least), so it makes sense that they don't fundamentally change the process. But there is mind-blowing value in an AI tool with the knowledge of the entire Internet that can help you analyze data, organize/structure materials, evaluate results, reason through ideas, edit texts, etc. The possibilities are endless. It's certainly not perfect. We still need to provide context, but when we do these tools are incredibly powerful. This will be the new way people interact with the Internet.
On point! You couldn't have said it better, Casey. No AI will ever be able to feel no matter how hard it will try to mimic "feeling". I really do hope this AI frenzy will hit a dead end soon.
No AI could ever replace the chaos and productivity that is Casey. Does anyone else wonder what Casey does everyday since he doesn't give us vlogs? I've never wondered more about anything regularly in my entire life. The man is a pillar of activity.
I'm a professional Photoshop editor and have noticed an increase in people requesting edits that they have created in Ai, they ask for more feeling and artistic flair...Some images are stone-cold and, to be honest, very difficult to work with. Ai is great and all, but it's a shortcut, which cuts out the soul...something that makes us, us! Great video Cas, very thought-provoking for such a short vlog.
@@gopivdather silly things to be honest. I had some requests where the client had generated vintage images of their family, you know…made them look like old cowboy style images which they wanted putting together with other family members onto an original vintage image. It took some working out what they wanted but I ultimately declined that one as the end result would be hideous lol
This is hilarious! 😁 Thank you for making this I completely agree with the soul concept. I feel like I've given birth to each of my vlogs.. I give a bit of myself in every edit.
Casey Neistat's vlog of downtown Manhattan is a fantastic representation of the vibrant and diverse energy of this iconic neighborhood. His expertly crafted shots of the city streets and bustling crowds capture the essence of the urban landscape, showcasing the unique character and charm of downtown Manhattan. One of the standout aspects of Casey's vlog is his ability to showcase the city in a positive light, highlighting the beauty and vitality of its people, architecture, and culture. His passion and enthusiasm for the city are infectious, and it's hard not to be swept up in the excitement and energy of his vlogs. Overall, Casey Neistat's vlog of downtown Manhattan is a wonderful celebration of this incredible city. Through his expert storytelling and masterful cinematography, he captures the heart and soul of the city, reminding us why so many people around the world are drawn to this incredible place.
One word: Empathy. Being human means being empathetic. Feeling emotions and being vulnerable. Thanks Casey for this incredible deep human demonstration in the form of a 5 minute Vlog 🙌
This is my favorite. I'm not a person who is that afraid of AI, so seeing Casey have it do his job helps to showcase how it's just a tool and nothing more.
Sure, its a tool and nothing more, but I think the whole exercise was lost on him. I think Norm McDonald said it best: "Nothing looks dumber than if you parody self-parody. You really get caught not understanding." Casey's reaction to the whole joke that AI made a trite non-consequential vlog says more about him than it does the AI...
Wow. Totally on board with your take on this…What I really appreciate is you spreading this message on the platform so artists don’t get discouraged. Long live REAL people, places and things!
This would have been a killer video if Casey said all that at the end and then showed a ChatGPT script that included all of the stuff about depth and soul that Casey was saying making it seem that the AI engine wrote the whole thing. That would have been creative, and it would have freaked the viewer out!
but its not that meta... I think Norm McDonald said it best: "Nothing looks dumber than if you parody self-parody. You really get caught not understanding." Casey's reaction to the whole joke that AI made a trite non-consequential vlog says more about him than it does the AI...
not really, the script is not something that casey would do...we, as a viewer, would have noticed that.... it was just a generic text, no personality whatsoever
This entire video was just hilarious to me. The awkwardness of reading the script doing the shot for shot takes, the one human feeling part of the stare and laugh.
It would have been an awesome twist if the second half of the video was also written by AI and it made the "AI generated vlog" intentionally bad to trick us
This gave me a lot of hope for the future of AI (or lack thereof, in the mean time). Also, Casey's smile at the end of the shots or disagreeing with the script was hilarious lol.
This was a fascinating experiment that showed the limitations of AI when it comes to human storytelling. Lack of humanity and soul in the AI-generated script reminded us of the importance of authentic human storytelling in content creation.
he asked for a boring video, and got a boring video. he might as well ask it for a video about the struggles and fears people have in manhattan.. an emotional video that speaks to other struggeling people and eventually gives them inspiration and hope.. i think chatgpt would have no problem to come up with something good for that. but he asked "a day in new york" and thats what he got.
I've done a bunch of machine learning and AI talks over the years, we have to remember one simple concept, it's just numbers and probability. The scale of things happening though, that's really interesting. You can tell the script source material reads like a "what to do" section of a travel website, the copy is flat but it's also plentiful hence those were probably the results you were getting. We're at the start of this new creative journey, whether a video producer, musician, photographer, writer etc, how these tools can help and enhance what we create. I'm facing the reality that my job as a software engineer is going to drastically change over the next 5 to 10 years, if not go altogether. Reminds me of the quote in Halt & Catch Fire, "Computers aren't the thing, they're the thing that helps you get to the thing". PS: Casey, the AI script didn't suggest "Deliver as sarcastically possible." did it? :)
I'm working on something that will change tasks exactly like this to have more soul. Its an interest challenge but I think you should take this more as a compliment of the amount of data that is on yourself that it was able to reference to even get this far. Truly an accomplishment for it to have any understand about one single humans life and more off the art you preform!
You’re actually a really good commentator of present cultural and political issues in the world. I can really imagine how you were just living your life with your family and friends, and you chatted about AI. And you reflected and interpreted your experiences and exposure and then you formed an authentic and unique opinion, but then, other than any one else on the planet, you create these videos for us to enjoy.
This reminded me of those really bad TV commercials in the 70's and 80's that were made for local businesses here in NYC... The best part was seeing Candice... She's so adorable 😍 AI WILL NOT REPLACE YOU! ☮️&❤
It is so calming to know AI is far from actually realistically replacing humans when it comes to creative work and at the same time this is one of the funniest vlogs ever hahah
This made me laugh tears 😂😂 Plus! I learned some new facts about Manhattan. It felt like a pre schooler standing in front of the class reading everything from flash cards 😄

AI is good at nothing, trust me. It takes humans freedom and cognitive ability to make something unique.

Candice understood the script and embodied the role so well!!!!

To me, the point of this video was to show that AI will not be taking over Casey Neistat's job any time soon 😉
Ayyyy Dax!
How does if feel to be used by idubbbz?
*Here is ChatGPT4’s response:* 🤓
It's great to hear that Casey Neistat experimented with using me to write the script for his vlog! It's important to note that the quality of the output largely depends on the input prompt. To improve the results, here are some suggestions for better prompts:
As a mater of fact, that's exactly what I would be doing , but telling the AI what to do instead of doing it myself.
lol robotic response to criticism - just throw it back at the human and blame them.
