Great video 🙂 would you be able to do a video showing how to incorporate all of these into your routine? For example, which products should not be used together, which for am and which for pm, and what order to apply for maximum results? Thank you!

Great video, it's always nice to have a professional confirm you're on the right path. Would you by chance be able to make a video that talks about lasers or procedures that might be the next step if your dark spots aren't fading as much as you'd want with just tropicals?

    • @DrSamEllis

Happy to! And I think that’s such an important point to make regarding the fact that often topicals are great for initial fading and maintenance but often lasers, peels, etc may also be needed for optimal results

I love the Avene RetinAL. It caused my skin to wake up after using for only two months. This is after years of using Retinol. I also use in the winter LaRoche Cicaplast cream at night to seal everything in. I do like one of the Paula’s Choice 50 sunscreen. It seems to go on white but sinks in and is a light lotion. I’m so happy I started on a good skin care regimen, but a little late to the game when I did in my late 40s, I’m now 59. My go-to’s are tretinoin and I’ve worked up to the 1%, Maelove’s the glow maker for the vitamin C, Hylamide’s niacinamide, but I believe Deciem is doing away with the Hylamide line. I do love the ordinary AHA/BHA exfoliant acids. I have a little routine that I do every week and I know my dermatologist had told me several years back to only do the Tretinoin twice a week due to the black box warning’s.

This is a wonderful video - all these skincare terms get advertised to us, but it's really helpful to understand the specific benefits of each in the way you've laid this out. But the follow-up would be: how do you combine these into an actual skincare regime? For example, I've heard that you shouldn't mix peptides and retinoids within a certain time window. Additionally, if you are layering all these product types in one go, won't they lose their effectiveness - or worse, overwhelm the skin and actually cause damage?

    • @DrSamEllis
      @DrSamEllis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

Thank you! You don’t need to combine them all and retinoids and peptides can usually be used together. Copper peptides and vitamin c could possibly interfere with one another so I wouldn’t use them at the same time.
Sample regimen for mature skin that isn’t too sensitive:
AM: Gentle cleanse or AHA cleanser for more exfoliation/glow if skin isn’t sensitive (optional), antioxidant serum, growth serum, moisturizer (optional, could be a peptide moisturizer), spf
PM: Gentle cleanse, peptide serum, retinoid, moisturizer
But also most people don’t need to do everything! It’s just that some people won’t be able to tolerate some actives, like AHAs or retinoids so it’s nice to have other options.
      Hope this helps!

I've definitely seen Results with the Lancome Absolue line of Skincare, although pricey. Tried Chanel Skincare & did nothing for my skin so it just depends on preference & where skin condition is at.

Hi Dr Ellis - can I use Laneige Sleeping mask or any other product over my Renova cream or should Renova be used alone?

Can you please do a video on how to incorporate both AHA and Retin-A into a skincare routine without hurting your skin barrier. I keep hearing about how we are over exfoliating our skin due to trying ALL the products but I don’t understand how to use Both correctly (on sensitive skin.)

I can! But also, most people don’t need to use both!

retinoids give me insane acne when my skin is otherwise clear so I have not been able to add this into my skincare routine..... I dont have wrinkles dark spots or any pigmentation problems at the moment but im 34 and dont want to do nothing for my skin. Thanks for the tips im going to try to add a few of these into my skincare, I get overwhelmed and worried im not doing enough and while I dont have an signs of aging just yet I dont want to leave it.

With Anti Aging dermalmd My complexion looks and feels better than ever. It's so smooth and soft, looks younger. I've received a number of complements, one person wanting to know what I'm doing to my face, there's definitely a change. I'm very pleased.

FINALLY, I understand free radicals now! That was such a quick and simple explanation. So far, I only ever got confused when someone tried to explain it.

I really like maelove for my neck since my retinol is too strong for that area.

I would love to hear more about retinaid use around the eyes regarding safety. I have been using retanoid eye creams but I do have chronic dry eye and was looking into if it was safe for around the eyes and apparently a lot of eye doctors do not like the use of retinoids on the face period especially around the eye because it can affect the oil glands in the eye from producing oil correctly (or something like that haha) which is a big problem for me as that is already my issue and I don’t want to exasperate it. I think I’m going to move to a peptide Eye Cream but I would love to hear your thoughts.

Yes I agree that those who suffer from dry eye may want to skip the retinoid there. But a good spf (or sunglasses) and a peptide cream would be a great alternative!

Hi Dr. S, for the last 6 months I went through extreme acute stress. My skin has lost elasticity, hair has fallen out, and I have seen sagging where there was none months ago. Some of his has no began to resolve since the stress has decreased. I take very good care of my skin but I am concerned it’ll never return to its baseline state. Can it and will it? Thank you.
