    I think the Nighthaunt change is probably the single most impactful change to any army (well, aside from maybe the Sloppity nerf in the other direction). Nighthaunt just didn't work after they removed the fight in two ranks thing, and now it can play the game again. It's not going to be a top army or anything, but at least it's going to be playable. And it might have some real legs (if ghosts had legs) with the Mannfred RoR.

      you could easily see 60 bladegheist or 60 harridans winning tournaments.

    • @TheStormkeep
      @TheStormkeep  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      After playing a few games against Nighthaunt, I strongly agree! They are vastly improved with 2" range - Scarlet Doom and Quicksilver Dead are both looking good

    • @assistantref5084
      @assistantref5084 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheStormkeep Quicksilver dead is where it's at I think. 20 harridans easily chew through anything except serious save-stacking, they take almost no damage on your turn if you do need to tank something thanks to the easy access to -1 to hit and -1 to wound when they charge, and they actually fight pretty well on your opponent's turn too, which bladegheists don't. The 40-60 points you save compared to bladegheists actually makes a big difference in some lists, too.
      The biggest problem is just rolling the buckets of dice involved.

      @@assistantref5084 Yeah theyre relying on Hoarfrost and Blizzard to deal with armored targets. I wonder if people are going to start teching in more anti-horde stuff like Gravetide to deal with Nighthaunt

    • @assistantref5084
      @assistantref5084 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TheStormkeep I'd be more of a fan of gravetide if it wasn't so hard to cast because of the ww/ 8" range on a thing that's like 6.6" wide. I've found in practice it's often hard to find a place you can both put it down and hit the thing(s) you want to hit with it unless your caster is using a hero phase teleport to make room.

    Sloppity didn’t stop pile ins, it just locked certain models from piling closer. So they could orbit out of the way and then models behind pile normally. But it was confusing how it differed from the no pile in mechanic on the wheel of corruption.

    Ogors can't charge through buildings/terrain like you said unless they pay for the up/down. The flying on the monstrous rampage is only across enemy units. So not even their own units.

    I don't think the Kroak build is dead imo. You still generate enough CPPs per turn for a cleanse the realm normally. The main thing that will stop is simmoning high tier units. No more guard summons. But you can easily get 15+ CPP per turn with the new update. Especially if you get some unbinds. Imo one thing that might become good is a Dracothion's tail build with Aggradons that can summon where you want them 7 inches away( 6 inch charge because of the +1). I have personally ran this a couple times since the update and its worked wonders. Kroak, cleanse and the slann still do a ridiculous amount of mortal wounds while the aggradons actually give your opponent something to be scared off in melee.

    • @TheStormkeep
      @TheStormkeep  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Im not sure they'll get 12+ CPP reliably with so much unbinding in the game now. The extra CPP from the command trait helped smooth out low rolls.
      Aggradons in Starborne certainly seem appealing! Dropping them >7" and getting a very reliable charge in seems useful. It'll be interesting to see how Starborne pivots

    For SCE, I think Praetors should only be able to bodyguard foot heroes and need some other kinda boost (likely in damage or attacks, or maybe as long as they and their bonded foot hero are alive you get a cp or something) so that taking them isnt seen as a tax but as a unique compliment to your foot hero
    With these changes, they could then individually tune some kind of ward save for big dragons
    On a sidenote, Vandus with a 5++ ward (or at least vs mortal wounds) and Rend-2 would be nice
    Make him a slightly better melee hammer that protects army from battleshock (with a tad more survivability)

    • @TheStormkeep
      @TheStormkeep  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ive always liked the idea of Praetors giving their bonded hero a buff like +1 to wound rolls
      Hopefully they get something cool in 4th ed!

    I think next books get rid of the after charge for Gargants give Brodd a prayer that gives them a retreat and charge once per game to help key reposition. or just make a once per game battle trait ability. since they can walk over models when not charging they can get out of tight spots without wasting time and i think the extra chance at charge damage would give them a meaningful boost without going over the top.

    Interesting (and indepth) discussion, as always. That said, thinking that Beasts of Chaos are more likely to get squatted/legended than Bonesplittaz is a pretty wild take to be honest.
    Edit: Many good and clever balance changes in this Battlescroll, imo. But just like with most previous ones, it should have gone further with the points drops for underused / weak units. Meaning both more severe drops for a couple units that received only a minor points drop and also just more units that should have received a points drop at all. Cough. Judicators. Cough. Stormdrakes. Cough.

    I'm gonna need some help from an expert because i'm getting mixed Information on this. Can a Liberator-Prime actually take a Grandweapon? The App says he can, but my instructions don't feature a Prime with Grandweapon. Also they don't have a Warscroll for Warcry, so is it a legal loadout for AOS?

    • @mrigank3855
      @mrigank3855 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      He can yes, instructions wise just use the same arm and weapon for a normal liberator with grandhammer and put it on the prime body since theyre all interchangeable. Warcry is irreleveant to AOS loadouts, so its legal since it doesnt specify that the prime cant take the weapon loadout and will get the extra attack
      Where they specify the Prime doesnt benefit from the grandweapon is the Prosecutor warscroll so be careful there :)

    • @TheStormkeep
      @TheStormkeep  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep you can equip a Liberator Prime with a Grandweapon
      Are you building the Liberators from the 2015 starter box?

    wizards finders should have been the +1 attack and this unit can't be targeted by blizzard, then I'd run protectors with starsouls. Also I believe in the 15 vanquisher, vandus, imperitant dream.

      100% blizzard immunity would be great, but the units that need it most right now (big hero monsters) cant go into that battalion :P

    it's funny to see they chose to modify only humans units in CoS while they could give 2"reach to executionners, move Assassin from Leader to None etc. soon lord relictor will cost les than Knight relictor 😆

    • @TheStormkeep
      @TheStormkeep  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Many people suspect the non-human units in COS are not going to be around more than one more edition :P

    • @Dotification
      @Dotification 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Well, all the CoS melee units out now are on 25mm's, so none of them really need 2" reach.
      The fact that Executioners & all the Duardin didn't get point decreases seems like they're getting the Bonesplittaz-style slow squat[ting.]
      Also Fusiliers losing access to their signature spell buff, & then not getting a points rebalance(!) is pretty scammy on all the folks that bought multiples of the kit. They could have amended it to 6's to hit just converting to Mortal Wounds, rather than counting as both a normal hit + a bonus MW & see if that took off the 1-2% off win-rate that bothered them--look at the top 2 LVO lists--neither of them had Fusilier shooting castles. The points reductions on the great cannon & Fusil Major on Ogor* do not go far enough to reflect this + the baseline non-competitiveness/lack of sales of those boxes to this point, as the only people buying/building cannons are noobs & hobbyist painters, & well, if they're more competitive to field... then that will help sell the upcoming Spearhead box better than 10 more Steelhelms will.
      As to what the Human melee hammer dú jour will be? Maybe giving 2/3 Move orders to the Pontifex & Alchemite WF to chase some Cavaliers & their Marshall around...??
      The thought of FG Steelhelms getting enough buffs to brawl with Tahlia in HH.Ghyra doesn't really excite me as a player or potential painter. If I was going to mass & buff a cheap screen to brawl with... I would prefer B. Ark Corsairs...
      What about ranged for the book as a whole? Well now it's a choice of 3 OK-ish shooters; Wildercorps Hunters (only available in a WarCry boxes set), nerfed Fusiliers (no more than 20 ever to shoot screens/lone heroes), or maybe a B.Ark FleetMaster using his boosted All-Out Attack command on a trio of Scourgerunner Chariots?? IronDrakes (like most Duardin) are dead in the water, & Darkshards haven't had play since Anvilguard(?) had a spell unlocking MW's for them.
      FG Command Corps not being unique *still* is bizarre. I almost wish they had left the points at 180, but you could only take 1 unit of them for every Marshall in your list.
      *if Fusiliers are mediocre... then taking their Major on Ogor Warhulk is pretty pointless, as having Master of Ballistics & M.V.'s Macroscope on a medium-sized base is way less of a priority. The sniping ability is a "nice when it works" ability when not fighting Ogors/Gargants/models with more than 2-3 Wounds, & the Warhulk isn't as lethal as he's presented in the fluff.
      Sorry I missed the show!
      I hope GW realizes that not every CoS player is Jeremy Vessiere or Gavin Grigar-tier heavies that needed so many points hikes on top of the Blazing Weapons nerfs, so it will be interesting to see if they can hang at a 51-55% win-rate for the remainder of 3.5/Andtor leveraging the rest of their uneven roster. The human half of the army could really use a melee hammer unit that's *not* on cavaliers on horseback [Ogor War-hulks plz] to leverage their buff support structure/make up for their ranged output being blunted.

    • @Dotification
      @Dotification 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Also the Steelhelms do not have a way to get +1 to wound AFAIK--hoping to roll 6's with Blazing Weapons up/a 2nd Alchemite WarForger in your list seems to be the way to hopium their play.
      Also the Great Cannon's range needs to be 30" to start.

    How did big dragons abilities not work ? And why the change benefits Ionus and Krondai ?
    Also, regarding Vanquishers change : I'm dissatisfied. it's nice that they can now actually use their banner and trumpet and tsill fight, but giving them flat 2" range feels artificial to me. Like, Vindictors have long ass spears and have same range now. GW could add separate weapon attack option, like 'sword push' or smg wich would have 2" range, higher rend and/or demage and these 2" but would not benefir from wide attack rule.
    Second also : I've just bought my first Sequitors and they came with 2nd ed warscroll card and it looks so fun - rerolls of saves on 1's, additional rerolls of attack/save rolls depending on Aethereic Channeling choice, Greatmaces scoring D3 hits on hit rolls of 6 ... This so so much more interestign unit back then. Not sure about balance, but it definetly sounds more exiting to be playing them back then :P

    • @TheStormkeep
      @TheStormkeep  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ancient Master of War used to read "Subtract 1 from the Attacks characteristic of melee weapons that target this unit". There were a couple problems with this, most notably when a unit was attacking Krondys/Karazai and another unit, or if a model split its attacks between targets. Everyone assumed it worked a certain way, but RAW it did not work at all and the game rules had no resolution.
      It's good that they fixed it... though there are still plenty of problems like this where the game doesn't technically work (like doing any amount of overkill wounds).
      The 2nd edition rules were a lot more complicated, but also more interesting. It's good to simplify the game (warhammer is too complex!) but they went too far with our 3rd edition book and we have a lot of units that are just stats and points. Maybe in our 4th edition book we will have some more crunch to our warscrolls

      I don't think BoC are being squatted now that the Old World is here
      Absolute worst case is their units get folded into Slaves to Darkness (Theridons look a lot like bullgors...), with a few going into the subfactions like Tzeentch.
