CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Avenging his departed fish, Ken (Michael Palin) plows over Otto (Kevin Kline) with a slow-moving steamroller.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
In A Fish Called Wanda, Jamie Lee Curtis plays an ambitious con artist who uses every ounce of her sexual wiles to obtain a fortune in jewels stolen by her gangster lover Tom Georgeson. First, she romances Georgeson's dimwitted but deadly henchman Kevin Kline (who won an Academy Award for his performance). Then, to clear the path for her getaway with Kline, Jamie woos Georgeson's starched-shirt attorney, John Cleese -- and it's Cleese whom she genuinely falls in love with. Michael Palin, Cleese's former Monty Python cohort, plays a stuttering mob flunkey who continually messes up his one big assignment: killing a little old lady (it isn't that he has any qualms about knocking off the old dear; it's just that her pet dogs keep getting in the way). A Fish Called Wanda was scripted by star John Cleese.

According to Cleese, This was the 1st scene he thought about in the movie, and the rest of story and characters where created just to make that scene possible!
That's funny to know, since I just read that when Cleese was writing this, he was hoping to emphasize story along with laugh out loud comedy, since he was disappointed with the last Python movie, The Meaning of Life because it was mostly gags without a story in his eyes.
It was Charles Crichton (director) who said he wanted to run someone over with a steamroller “like in the cartoons” and Cleese (screenwriter) devised the plot such that it was possible. A bit psychopathic but still made for a funny scene.
I heard that the only reason Kevin Klein considered this part was just because of this scene.
Yesss

"It's K-K-K-Ken, ca-ca-coming to k-k-k-kill me!" brings me to tears every. damn. time.
Hahahahaha!
Am I the only one that thinks this is one of the most hilarious movies ever made?
+Tommy Tolo
No. It is truly the funniest movie I have ever seen. Brilliant.
+Tommy Tolo I'm 21 and besides my parents, not one other person I know has ever even heard of this movie. It's sad. This is comedy gold.
+mvpslick94 Fucking Limey cement.
nope. I do too
No, I literally pissed myself the first time I saw it.
As an Englishman, the line that kills me is at 00:52: “Oh yes. Yes ‘fraid so old chap. Sorry!!”
The disgust in Otto’s face and the fact that he nails the accent!
😂😂😂😂
As an American my favorite line is “they whooped yer hide reeeeeal gooooood!”
@@firstname_lastname2 “Oh no they didn’t!”
As an American conversely, Cleese going "they whooped yer hide REAL good!" gets me every time.
"Oh look, the queen"
"Where?"
"Going to shoot me?"
"Ah, yes, fraid so old chap, sorry!"
He has the best zingers
Tom it’s K k k Ken coming to k k k kill me!
I love his deliverance of the line soo muuuch funniest thing
Oh no, it's Ka-ka-ka-Ken. Ca-ca-ca-coming to kill me.
+carultch ki-ki-ki-kill*
How you gonna cccccatch me, k-k-k-k-ken
Now where was I? Oh yeah.
every time 😂
Kevin Kline did a fabulous job in this film. He totally deserved the Oscar. One of my favorite actors ever.
the rare instance that they actually gave the oscar to the right person and for all of the right reasons.
Yep, and he was such a favorite with the test audience they had to film that scene of him outside the plane window. In the original cut he was dying here.
Cccccccccccclassic!
Oh but I love Palin so.
Kevin Kline was so weirdly compatible with the Python crew he was so like one of them, but American
The fact that he survives only makes it more hilarious
The moment in the airplane when Wanda and Archie are together and Otto's face comes up outside the window. :-D
In the original version of this scene he doesn't survive - it's in the deleted scenes - but they went with the less dark version after test screenings.
"Limey cement....!"
Such a great pun. Love this movie
Thank-you. I was wondering how many people got it.
I like how, even at the wrong end of a gun, Archie is still able to use his arguing and people skills to bait Otto into distraction.
Well ye, because Otto is a blithering idiot which everyone else knows but he cannot abide to admit.
To be fair, distracting Otto is literally as simple as "look over there!"
"Winners like...North Vietnam?" Best burn...EVER! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Or John Cleese with the American accent. "they whupped yo' hide real gooood!"
"it's kkkken, coming to kkkkill me"
Kevin Kline is the best lol
He was great in French kiss also

Love that face at 1:02 it's such a believable reaction. Kevin Kline going in the legendary books with this performance
That's Michael Palin for you...
Kline won an oscar for this role.
“Jesus, I said I’m sorry! What the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-“
They Whooped your hide...REAL GOOD!
2:25 "What the fuAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaahhh.." 😆
Every single detail about this scene is just so damn perfect!
"Re-VENGE!"
+Stephanie Briggs Ok, I'm sorry, as i eat your fish! okay? iiii'm sorry! :D
"DETH."
When I was 4/5 years old I walked in on this scene and I'm pretty sure it was the first time I ever thought about the concept of death (or at the very least, seen a portrayed dealth on tv)...everyone else in the room was laughing... I cried for hours...
As an adult it makes this scene 10x funnier
Funny thing is Otto somehow survives 😅
It would traumatise a child...🌸🙏
True story: one man literally died from laughing watching this in the theater (heart attack).
What the hell is funny about that? Discovering the depressing futility of life at a young age, only to see how the people around you laugh it off?
What the hell, man? I'd reflect a little more deeply on that, if I were you.
@@tinobemellow Now, that IS funny!
The only Oscar winner to involve someone killed by a steamroller.
Although he wasn’t killed
excellent send-up of the "look behind you" trope.
_ROADA ROLLA DAAAA!_
Best revenge EVER!!! LOL! I love this movie, makes me laugh every time I watch it.
Ditto :)
30 years!! My favorite!
“Ok you have the guts” lol
I love when Otto replies, "Oh no they...SHUT UP!"
Kevin Cline won an Oscar for this role.
It's almost Christmas 23,I DESERVED a treat ! Ken on top of this huge and slow machine did the job perfectly 😂
That 2 sec of "Revenge!" is my favorite part of this whole movie. It's strange, but to me it feels like the entire plot up to that point was building up for that one perfect moment of acting.
It was. John Cleese wrote the entire movie based around this scene.
There are a lot of movies and sitcoms that are built around a single punchline. Way more common than people probably think
This scene inspired the Ice Rink scene from _Deadpool_
0:50 Kline throwing that British accent in there just makes the delivery all the more hilarious.
Cleese’s southern accent definitely adds to the hilarity
Winners.... likes the Taliban
At least ken finally lost his stutter 😂😂😂😂
that's true. he gets revenge by steamrolling the man who ate his fish. oh, and doesn't otto owe ken a pound?
I don't know why, but Kevin Kline's delivery of "Ken" with that smile, right after the boarding pass, cracks my shit up.
May I call you Kenny?
Arguably the greatest comedy in film history, and the scene of Michael Palin trying to describe a hotel location to John Cleese is absolutely hilarious, not unlike the "Biggus Dickus" scene on The Life of Brian.
2:18 is this line better in or out of context? because he actually did eat his fish
I thought it was.
Kline should've gotten more roles these days.
He's so underrated! I wish people gave him more credit, he's amazing
He turns down a lot of offers. They nicknamed him Kevin Decline
@@ivanardila6082 In fairness most actors know what they are best at so it makes sense to only go for roles you fit in.

limey cement. lol
It has Lime in it
ROAD ROLLER DA
Goodbye *JOJO*
The irony of an american calling someone else "sexually repressed".
How so? This was in relationship to the English stereotype, not like other more passionate countries.
I'm sorry I ate your fish 😀😀😀 Kline excels in this one; and the MP guys are great as always - RRRRRevenge!!! 🤣
He should have said sorry for sticking chips up Ken's nose as well.
I thought Kevin Kline body was going to get deflated by the steamroller like Judge Doom(Christopher Lloyd) from Who Framed Roger Rabbit movie🐰
That "I just saw a man get run over by a steamroller..." look at the end is hilarious XD
Imagine being on one and running me over!
Hmm. How come the cement is set around his feet - yet soft as the steamroller squashes him into it.
Dio was actually riding the Road Roller
"At least I'm not irretrievably vulgar!"
REVENGE!!!!! 🤣
This is the best movie k-k-k-k-killing I've ever seen!
Loooooool🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well he survives so........
Rev-ENGE! Such awesome delivery lol, I still quote it sometimes.
1:09 you can hear the exact moment otto moves into the cement with the squelching.
Bit of a queef there, old chap, eh?
Winners like... Afghanistan?
“Fuckin limey cement!” Haha
It's K--k-Ken c-c-c-coming to k-k-k-kill me!

1:54 REVENGE!!
It was a tie......lol
This remains one of the most satisfying scenes ever.
1:25 - So where are the footprints he presumably made to get to where he was?
Kline going OKAY I'M SORRY had me dying
English men still wear his underwear.
I only watched this movie once when it hit the theaters. This is the only scene I remember. Maybe it's time to give it another viewing.
"F*cking limey cement" was the product placement in this movie.

"winners like ... north viet nam " :)) so proud :3
This movie is up there with Young Frankenstein, every single person in it is at the top of their game!
Perhaps the greatest scene in cinematic history.
It's so funny comparing Kline and Cleese here to their opposing roles in Silverado (1985) some 3 years earlier, where they played vastly different characters - Kline the quiet and rock-solid protagonist, Cleese the authoritative lawman
How are you going to Ca-ca-ca-catch me? Ka-ka-ka-Ken?
Everyone was spot on in this movie man class A acting unbelievable!
Archie and Wanda were married in Rio, had seventeen children and founded a leper colony.
Ken became master of Ceremonies at the London Sea World.
Otto emigrated to South Africa and become Minister for Justice.
Ahh I just love happy endings

Is it me or does Kline sound like Steve Martin
I've been looking for this movie for years. Saw this on tv in like the 90s. Could never find it until today (over 20 years later).
Ken really said: “ROAD-A ROLLA DAAAA!!!”
I love how Cleese imitate an american southern accent
I absolutely loved this movie and still do me and sister watched this over and over wish they still made classics like this!!!!
There are parallels between this scene and climate change, can anyone see the link?
Is the double noise at 1:33 coming from Otto's shoes or the back of his pants?
Nothing funnier than an Englishman doing an American accent.
guys try not to laugh challenge while watching all of the series
2:24 RODA RORRA DAAAA
Lol, Cleese and Kline give a recital in this scene.
But have you seen Fawlty Towers? Cleese is doing a lot of Basil in this film, sans mustache.
I wonder how they did the steamroller running over him at the end?
They actually steamrolled him. You think it's easy to get an Oscar?
@@farid1406.1 How He didn't got squashed and 2. how they freed him afterwards ?
How wonderful, actually showing Otto going under. Poor Otto. First Archie's wife, now this.
Great film and performance from Kevin Kline. He deservedly got the Oscar and should have won the BAFTA also, but, naturally they gave it to Palin🙄
John Cleese' character' name, Archie Leach, was actor Cary Grant's real name.
2:26
Tired of winning yet?
Can't imagine how he survived though
@House Of Fleapit He did actually
Cinematically Rule of Funny. Physics-wise he was basically pressed down into cement and wasn't squished between cement and roller. Latter would have been horror-film level of extra-gory.
@@vksasdgaming9472 I think he would have been squished regardless. The roller would have pressed through the cement to the ground beneath it.
@@farid1406 Oh yes. Roller is hard and compressed cement is also hard and squishy stuff between those two gets molded into new, flatter shape. Still such mess would have been jarring contrast.
limey cement..
