    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
    When Wendy (Maria Aitken) calls him stupid, Otto (Kevin Kline) goes off on a tirade against the British.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    In A Fish Called Wanda, Jamie Lee Curtis plays an ambitious con artist who uses every ounce of her sexual wiles to obtain a fortune in jewels stolen by her gangster lover Tom Georgeson. First, she romances Georgeson's dimwitted but deadly henchman Kevin Kline (who won an Academy Award for his performance). Then, to clear the path for her getaway with Kline, Jamie woos Georgeson's starched-shirt attorney, John Cleese -- and it's Cleese whom she genuinely falls in love with. Michael Palin, Cleese's former Monty Python cohort, plays a stuttering mob flunkey who continually messes up his one big assignment: killing a little old lady (it isn't that he has any qualms about knocking off the old dear; it's just that her pet dogs keep getting in the way). A Fish Called Wanda was scripted by star John Cleese.

    John Cleese, admitting in press interviews that he had no knowledge of how to direct a film, served as co-director, since the studio executives at MGM were worried about Charles Crichton's age - he was 78 years old at the time. On the set, Crichton wore a T-shirt presented to him by Cleese and inscribed "Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill".

    I feel that Ryan Reynolds owes his entire career to Kevin Kline performance. I feel that Ryan Reynolds saw this movie every day when he was young and even purchased an Otto poster.

  • @SJMJ91
    @SJMJ91 7 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    In fairness, Otto did save Archie's ass to prevent Wendy from believing Archie was having an affair and distracting Wendy so Archie could get Wanda out. His actions made sense but looking at it from another angle (especially from Wanda's point of view), it was a pretty stupid thing to do. Just an incredibly written scene.

    Some Americans have the same views on the British as Otto does in the movie. Let me remind those folks that the great USA is the largest coup for the British Empire. What does the 13 red stripes represent on your nations flag? 39 of the presidents you have had trace back to the British isles even the lastest in trump. If it wasnt for us you would still be chasing your food or speaking japenese.

    • @66kaisersoza
      @66kaisersoza 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fair enough.
      But consider the possibility that the USA wouldnt be where it is today, without the help of the british empire to give it that head start.
      Look at Hong Kong which the british built up and is now China's main commercial hub...

    • @soolly357
      @soolly357 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So the U.S. cpuld either be Japanese or British. You need to remember the 13 colonies broke off from Britain.

    • @zarni000
      @zarni000 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah right and if it weren't for the limy empire the world would have been a better place.
      not like the indians didnt have a better society anyway. the british empire is the plague that devastated the human race.

    • @TheAmarok87
      @TheAmarok87 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fun fact:
      In the German-dubbed version, he says that the Brits would all be eating sauerkraut and listen to military marches, if it wasn't for the "good old USofA". Then he imitates some military marches. In Germany, the first verse of the "Deutschlandlied" was considered too nationalist after 1945 and generally is not sung in public.
