The Godfather, Serpico, The Godfather 2, Scarface, Sea of Love, Carlito's Way, Scent of a Woman, Heat, Donnie Brasco, Devil's Advocate, Insomnia, The Irishman, some of Al Pacino's best films
How Pacino has only ever won one Academy Award is beyond me. The man has been part of so many iconic movies, playing so many iconic roles that it's an injustice that he's only a one time winner.
its because he was bred from the east coast, broadway and the actors studio... he was looked down upon for many years by the west coast hollywood industry. They did not even want him to play in the godfather, it was almost a miracle he got the role, even though he was well deserved and earned.
The one time he won was the one time he shouldn't have won. Not because he wasn't great. He was. But Denzel Washington gave the performance of a lifetime in Malcolm X. Families of Malcolm visited the set, and they were shocked to see him . They said it was as if Malcolm was alive.
Yeah, that close up shot of al as he walks around the pool table, for some reason it keeps the tension in the scene, i guess cause you know he is trying to distract the others and we see only his expression as he works them.
That eight ball scene always gets me breathless. It makes no difference that I know the outcome. Just incredible acting and timing by everybody. The air is so god-damn tight.
I've watched this scene a dozen times and just now realized the 'rack' at 2:32 was a shit rack, like he was just going through the motions. You can see it's not a legal/proper rack.I mean, just look at the 8-Ball.
Three things tip Carlito off in this scene: #1, He's denied the bathroom, and notices that if its "out of order", then why is somebody in there? #2 They turn the music up knowing shits is not far away from going down to muffle any gunfire or screaming. #3 Carlito notices the rack doesn't make one lick of sense after they mentioned they're playing eight ball. - after the culmination of these things.... Carlito takes action. Street smarts at its finest. Excellent scene.
YESSSSSS!!!!! Al Pacino is one of the best actors of all time. For me he's #1 and my favorite movie of all time was Scarface. It doesn't matter how old he gets, he's movies will always be top of the line successful.
I also love the scene in the movie Heat with Robert De Niro. The dialogue they had off each other and they way their characters finally meet face to face was incredible moment. When I was watching that part I almost had difficulty which character to root for because the way both men carried their acting skills to their own characters was impressive.
Yes! I agree 💯 best score ever, catches the decade/era masterfully. Even Viggo Mortensen as Lalin’ had me SO fooled!, he sounded 💯 authentic Puerto Rican! I didn’t realize at 1st it was Viggo. Great great cast.

Al Pacino belongs in the very top tier of actors together with names like Anthony Hopkins, Danial Day lewis. His commitment to the characters he plays and his delivery is on that level. He hasn't had the credit he deserves.
Carlito's Way is my favorite movie of all time. "You ain't a lawyer no more, you're a gangster now. You can't learn it in school and you can't start late".
His anger in Godfather 2 whilst looking at Fredo or Kay especially when she says about the abortion.. his face is speaking words that your voice just can’t say! Then there’s the “silent wail/scream” in Godfather 3 these scenes are burnt into my brain he’s just impeccable.
When Pacino asks to use the bathroom and they say it’s broke and guy says turn up the music look at Pacino eyes …. It’s exactly the way they looked in Godfather when he comes out of the bathroom and sits at table before he shoots McClusky in the throat. Same darting eyes.
One of the best scenes that takes me is the scene in Scarface when Tony is talking through the speaker and gets angry after being called a cockroach and he leaps to pick u the speaker and it jups out of hs hand whihc lead to an most amazing scene which can only be seen rather than described.

Of all the legendary roles he played, the one that struck me the most was his interpretation of a disillusioned author having to take care of 5 or 6 children while his wife has left him and he is in the middle of depression regarding the play he is struggling to write. The film is a romantic comedy entitled ''Author! Author!'' (1982) and I must have seen it a hundred times. I still look at it today from time to time, like an old comforting blanket. For me, this is my favorite role of his. I was shocked to read recently that he didn't get along at all with the director during filming! Can you imagine that!?! Him and De Niro will always be my favorites.
Too many moments to choose from. But for me, the top 3: Italian restaurant meeting in Godfather, Serpico underneath the bridge talknng to McClain, and Richard Romo putting Williamson in his place in Glengarry Glenross. Special mention to "Say hello to my little friend."
These are great. No doubt. You could probably have 20 of his scenes here, or more. But number one for me was always the final scene of ...And Justice For All.
Scarface was the best one ever, saw it in the movie theaters when it came out in 1983 and it was so long that they had an intermission because they had to change the reels. What a great movie that was still as my all-time favorite.
The scene in Carlito was a set up from the beginning, they planned to kill John Ortiz before they arrived. The Scarface scene was played with Pacino being conscious of his pain from being shot the whole time - real method acting. He acted like someone who had been shot, sweating & exhausted.
