Auburn eagle "Spirit" crashes into luxury box window in pregame flight

- Auburn University mascot "Spirit", an American Bald Eagle, crashed into a window and buzzed the crowd a couple of times during his pre-game flight on 9-10-11 vs. Mississippi State University. The bird recovered, but he's listed as questionable for next week.

"Spirit" must have had some spirits at the pre-gam tailgate.
Favorite part is at 0:34 where he dive-bombs and terrifies part of the crowd
Spirit retired today and took her final flight today. She’s 25 years old and the average life expectancy for captive eagles is 16.5 yrs.. War Eagle, Spirit!!!
Despite Spirit's run-in with the window, this was the loudest "War Eagle" cheer I've heard while a student at AU.
Before bashing anything about this video, take a few minutes and read about the program that cares for these birds. These birds were rehabilitated because they were not releasable back into the wild. Since most of you will be too lazy, search their website Southeastern Raptor Center in Auburn, AL.
Thank you for posting this - it's a beautiful view of Spirit's flight! Even with his "accident" with the window, he still made a beautiful flight! (I sure hope he is OK)
RIP Tiger... You get to fly for the Most High now. Bama fan to my heart, but you were totally majestic sight to see flying around the stadium from either side. War the REAL Eagle!

I was at the game. I am not an Auburn fan but think it is an awesome tradition. I hated to see the Eagle hit the glass and was in no way amused. I am thankful no one was hurt and do hope that the Eagle will be able to continue its performance for many games to come.

i think it's pretty shitty for some Bama fans to get on here and make ridiculous comments....i think it's a beautiful tradition that stands strong at Auburn and it's unfortunate that Spirit did hit the glass but the cool thing is, it didn't stop her! she kept going...pretty damn awesome if you ask me....i'll top my comment off with a Roll Tide though :)
I'm a UGA fan, but think this is a great tradition. Glad he didn't get hurt! I think the two mascot thing is a little odd but I know how it started years ago. I really think you should dump Aubie because you're all much more passionate about the War Eagle chant., but if you want two mascots, what the hell. Maybe we should add a kitten to our mascot lineup since we've been playing like one, but we did beat the Gators today.

If they'd put some of the transparent, UV-reflective stickers on the windows, the birds could see it's glass and might not hit is. The eagle was the bird of the day, but other birds, of all kinds, probably hit that glass just as they often do any pane of glass. OR, they could let cats into the stadium during the week to eat the wounded and killed birds! Let Auburn tigers in there to clean up the carcasses. Real ones. Who needs a bird? What an idea. WAR EAGLE.

Ive been to every game the past 6 years in jordan hare .... no shit its gonna be quiet were 2 and freakin 8 .... and "Go Tigers" is used in some chants ... and yes Aubie is the best mascot in the country ... if were referring to mascots not live animals ... Aubie wins in Orlando almost every year (check last year) not counting the stupid mascot voting things.
Aubie is easily the best mascot in the country? No offense, but that's a pretty ridiculous statement. "UGA" is far more famous but you still don't see me making that statement. If you love Aubie, that's fine with me, but I just went to the UGA-Auburn game, and all I heard was "War Eagle", not "Go Tigers". Actually, Jordan-Hare was pretty quiet.
Sorry I went to auburn university form 1979 to 1981, Music scholarship. It was ok but I always felt like a second class citizen tell people I went to auburn. I would have killed to have been in the "Million dollar Bad" But my ACT score was not good enough. Have to tell the truth AUBURN SUCKED AND STILL SUCK'S.

they have two mascots. that's not a crime, nor is being from the south. Is the way we treat animals humane? it's probably not, a lot of the time. the world runs on money rather than morality. However the south isn't any more guilty of that than anywhere else.

@Kippeneuker69 That's actually not our mascot... Aubie the tiger is. And this isn't the usual eagle... they chose a bald eagle (Spirit) as a one-time thing for 9/11. War Eagle VII is our eagle, and it is a golden eagle

@Z71Ranger Before another eagle gets killed? Please tell me when Auburn killed an eagle. Also, all the eagles/birds in captivity at the Raptor Center are there because they have some condition that prevents them from thriving in the wild. If we released all the birds they would certainly die.

I was there. They were trying to get her attention as soon as she hit the glass, but she wouldn’t look their way. Must have been disoriented, but she gave the crowd a heck of a show.

@jamiekmentel Yes. Alabama is currently on probation because of the textbook scandal. It extended your probation by 3 years, and the sentence was handed down two years ago.
Probation does not mean scholarship limitation or post season ban. Perhaps that's why you are confused.
As far as the ongoing investigation - if the NCAA hasn't done anything by now it won't happen. Auburn reported the Cam stuff over a year ago.
Even he knows that Auburn will never have another national championship after Cam Newton.

You do realize that it was Alabama who was proven to have paid 6 figures for a recruit, right? With Auburn it was nothing more than a blogger throwing out unsupported claims, and the lack of action by the NCAA should tell you just that. Also, keep in mind that Alabama has been on probation for the better part of 15 years now while Auburn has not been in trouble for going on 20.

For those who don't know, that's Auburn's backup Eagle. The normal eagle(golden eagle) was unable to fly that day. This bird almost did the same thing the game before(Utah State). I know because I was there.
