Follow another emudeck tutorial, im telling you right now, this makes shit a lot more complicated than it needs to be.
Removing parsers for systems your not emulating literally does nothing.
Thank you so much. Now I got to buy a 1TB Micro SD Card to load up all my roms. I tried 1 rom for each Emulator and everything worked Accept the ps1. It still would not show up even going through your steps. But I'll figure it out later. Now I can have all my favorite games on 1 portable unit and take it anywhere. And dock it to a TV do play with friends. Man this is by far the best handheld device ever in my opinion. It runs everything. Even played my Ps5 and Series X games Remotely. Damn this is a power house.

Thank you for this video. I have emudeck, but I didn't know how to set up the sub folder directory so I just had a folder with a bunch of files.
All I had to do was get a few BIOs and this worked like a charm for my Deck. Thank you for this video I've had Emu station on my deck for a long while now but didnt understand how to set it up till now.
What are those bioses? Is that like an actual bios for ps1?

Just finally pulled the trigger and brought the steam deck just waiting this is going to be my first time emulated games and boy I’ll have field day with this thing 😂
Duckstation can also use other file types, you just need to add those to the user glob inside the brackets (where .bin is) separated with a pipe.
Emudeck literally already includes everyting remotely worth adding. & if it doesnt just rename the file extension on your rom to something that wll pop up.
Their is literally zero reason to mess with the parsers except for something like ppsspp that will add 2 collections if you have both checked.
@@johnfrankster3244 Then go ahead and rename all of your .iso, .chd and other files to .bin, while I'll just add a few letters to the parser and have the exact same result with much less work.

I don't need to rename them because when I convert them it does it automatically ROFL. You go add lines to your parser. Enjoy taking up a whole lot more junk space with bin files aswell, while mine take up 20% of the space of your ps1 bin files.
For the record duck already reads chd clown....& so does its parser.
So I literally have no idea what your shitting on about(rename all my files). Do some research before talking shit next time.
If you had a faintest clue wtf your talking about you would know both those file types appear in the parsers already for literally every emulator that can use them peanut.
For anyone who hasn't gotten their Deck yet (I know, the wait is torture, but it's coming!), I can definitely confirm the emulation potential of this machine, which is one of the reasons why I was so stoked for it. The Deck plus a decent-sized micro SD card equals emulating virtually anything up to the early 2010s and even some things from today, on TOP of running all kinds of exclusive PC games, Steam games (of course) and even, uh..."borrowed" games as well. It's amazing. I've been going back and forth between playing one of my favorite Switch games (Wrestling Empire), my favorite boxing game (Fight Night Round 3, PS2), my favorite classic shooter (Perfect Dark, N64), Resident Evil 7 and 8, and even Dead By Daylight (on my portable Windows SD card, when the game isn't even supposed to work on the Deck at all). It's awesome. This is the machine everyone wished the PSP, Vita, and Switch Lite could be. All out of the box, no hard modding required.

@@c.m.7037 Not legally allowed to say (I doubt anyone's gonna do anything but I guess it's best to err on the side of caution). Basically reddit and the internet archive are your friend.
Fight Night Round 3 was so legit man. I played it on 360. Great times.

Only thing I got hung up on was getting a bios. I found a bios file with a lot of stuff and threw in the three bin files. Ended up working but really not sure of the difference between the three. Also worth mentioning, you want iso for your ROMs

Duckstation runs .chd files as well. Simplifies the .bin and .cue format, plus any files with multiple tracks, into one file per disc per game. I converted my collection to chd mostly so emulation station only shows one option per game, and it makes making .m3u playlists a breeze
How did you put all of those chd in one file? I thought you only could do that with .bins and .cues.
My duckstation collection shows "115" games of which 35 are parts of one same game.

Be careful on what you run on linux, linux is not invulnerable to viruses, trusting random scripts off of the internet is not a good idea, make sure you trust that script before giving it sudo privileges.
This is why the people experienced in using Linux are encouraging others to slowly get used to using the terminal so that you don't have to deal with potential vulnerabilities caused by random scripts. Although, learning the terminal and its commands is a different story.
It doesnt ask for sudo privileges, but if you use expert mode you can use PowerTools. Otherwise unless im blind or it snuck some command in theres no real worry for this one. Always double check whatever youre running though, this is true on every computer, but with the sudden influx of users theres thousands of new easy targets. Dont be a mark everyone

Just got my steam deck and luckily you don't have to manually set the parser to search in sub directories anymore. Guess they changed it in a update since then.
Watching this from a console player switching over this is great and exactly the kind of content I need to get my feet wet

this is a great video. I did have a question though. I downloaded a bios pack for retroarch and it has a system folder with lots of bios files for various systems. When putting bios files into the bios folder, can they all just be in one or do they need to be in individual folders within the bios folder? also i see it works with other files than just .bin. It works with img and cue and cdi / gdi just fine.

So due to videos like yours and others I've seen Alex, I have now pre-ordered a Steam Deck, probably won't get it till end of the year, so I'll have plenty of time to sell my Switch.
You can use symbolic link to link to roms on SD card. That way you dont have to fix the locations of roms in each configuration if u have emu deck installed on internal ssd.

Good luck getting neo geo, mame or any of the arcades working. EMU deck installs a certain version of retroarch you have to know what version - then you have to find roms that match that version, and or curate them or process them to that version. Good luck w/ that as well.

I do everything manually without emu deck. There is a lot of things I do different but One big thing everyone that has a lot of bin/cue games should do is convert them to chd. The amount of space it saves you is crazy.

There is no drawback, it gets rid of junk data & overhead.
Only drawback is that if a game requires 2 discs you cant break it down into a single file.
@@johnfrankster3244 You can with CDMage. But I don't know if Eboot files work on Steam Deck. I use them in my SNES Mini.
@@solaris_cc4353 Its not a matter of working on steam deck, its a matter of what the emulator supports.
duckstation supports pbp format(eboot). You cannot compress 2 disc games to CHD & have them run properly for pretty much any emulator. Multiple tracks are fine discs are not. Eboot is not chd.

Hello! I'm new to this whole emulation thing and I'm completely lost. I followed your tutorial quite well, until you got to the part where you install the bios from your ps1 games. I thought that installing emudeck would give you access to all the games automatically. How do you get the games themselves? How do you get the roms? For example, how did you acquire Alundra?
Edit: I did it! After doing some research, I realized you're supposed to get the game file itself online lol. I installed 2 DS games successfully thanks to you!

One question though: many of my PS1 games show up twice in the Steam ROM Manager, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to prevent this. I believe that the games where this happens have multiple BIN files (i.e., Breath Of Fire III has two files, "Breath Of Fire III (USA)(v1.1).bin" and "Breath Of Fire III (USA)(v1.1)(track 2).bin"), but I just want one "poster" to show in my game launcher. Any tips on how to do this?

Everytime you add new ROMS is it required for you to go to preview > generate app list to get it to show up on steam?
As I see it generating stuff for existing titles I already have I don't know if that's harmful or not
Just head up for everyone. I don't know if I did something wrong but at first some configuations weren't set up for Dolphin on the Steam ROM manager but when I wnet to settings and pressed to reset fuzzy list it sorted it. Just in case anyone else has that problem

Great video, I hoped you would go into how to set up pulling games straight off the SD card without having to move the files over manually. I did some digging and got it to work off the SD card but it doesn’t automatically generate apps in the rom manager on startup and I don’t know enough about Linux to even see if what I’m asking is possible. I’ll just suffer with having to manually generate the app list on every startup if I want to play a rom for now.
The video is all about pulling roms off the SD card….I have individual emulation videos as well for each console

The Steam Deck is fascinating. I just got back into gaming beginning of last year. I currently own a Switch and play a lot of retro games too. I was thinking about PS5 in the near future but this looks like a great option. The only thing is I really like physical media and I would likely have to say goodbye to that if I go Steam Deck route.
if you could find a way to back your games up with custom firmware on the switch and transfer them to your steam deck you could sell the switch or trade it for a ps4 for physical media
