Here is Fixe:
Go to Steam Deck Desktop mode - open standalone RPCS3 Appimage - configuration - Pads - Under Play1 - change Handlers to Evdev then under devices it should show Microsoft -Xbox 360 Pad 0 - click save. that's all
Now, the controller will work in both desktop mode & gaming mode.

Note:
1: The RPCS3 Emulator updates on March 27th somehow broke the steam deck controller in gaming mode.
Here is the Fix:
Go to Steam Deck Desktop mode - open standalone RPCS3 Appimage - configuration - Pads - Under Play1 - change Handlers to Evdev then under devices it should show Microsoft -Xbox 360 Pad 0 - click save. that's all
Now, the controller will work in both desktop mode & gaming mode.
Also, make sure controller template layout is using Gampad with joystick trackpad in gaming mode.
2:if the HDD0 folder is missing.
you can manually create hdd0 folder.
go to rpcs3 emulator manage virtual files system - select dev_hdd0 tab then click + icon navigate to your PS3 Emulation folder - click choose. the hdd0 folder will be created for you.
Tried the configuration, unable to play in gaming mode too, when back to emudeck and everything's works perfect
If you have emudeck your ps3 controller template layout in gaming mode is probably not set to normal gamepad with joystick trackpad template .
Hello! I have an issue with Ratchet and Clank 2007 on Steam Deck, im using Emu Deck and RPCS3, in game i cannot use gyro somehow, only if i unable sixaxis in option, but then i cannot use some guns properly, do you have any solutions?
I followed all your steps and I gues I have the most updated version of RPCS3. I am trying to play God of war chains of olympus (the PKG version) and even though I can have it launch in both desktop mode and game mode the default control setup for SDL does not work.
I created a custom controller config that was exactly the same as the default Steam virtual controller setup associated with SDL that was called Steam Deck 1 and that worked for Desktop mode. but for gaming mode the custom game controller config was not recognized.
I have tried your method "open standalone RPCS3 Appimage - configuration - Pads - Under Play1 - change Handlers to Evdev then under devices it should show Microsoft -Xbox 360 Pad 0 - click save. that's all", but it does not work in desktop mode (not sure about gaming mode).
Not sure what else to do. Tempted to just play the PSP version as its probably a lot more straightforward to deal with even though the dodge controls are a little wacky.
Desktop mode controller is working, gaming mode its not working. Followed all instructions but no improvement 🥲🥲🥲
Don't get me wrong, having standalone emulators is nice but.. Emudeck was precisely the reason why it exist that you don't have to deal to manually install and configure each emulator... Just click and go
Imagine thinking emu is perfect tho lol
yeah but it also caused nothing but problems, I spent wayyy more time in settings trying to get stuff to work on emudeck than I ever did playing emulated games before I gave up and stopped using it
What you can’t make time to go through the setup that’s just lazy bruh go back to console if you cant take a little setup being shown in ya face 🤷🏼♂️
@@darkzeronemesis497Jesus christ stop herassing people, both have their ups and downs, emudeck is streamlined and obviously this can cause problems with updates.
But this is an ultimate truth to much about everythig, updates have the potential to break things, an emulator update manually configured can do that too.
Emudeck is good for emulators that are easy to run and will save you time, obviously there is no way around some harder to emulate systems or games, you will need to set them up manually to make them work no matter what, its just how emulation is, nothing to do with emudeck specifically its just how it is.
Nothing about this is lazy or anything, just using computers normally for you know for what they were meant to be, atomatization.
@@scottcaramelI really would like to know the problems you have had, the only thing i can think of is when they moved yuzus prod keys directory, otherwise i dont know what you could possibly mean, didnt cause for me any more problems than i would have with manually setting up every emulator. It convieniently places everything in one location, convienient predefined steam rom manager parsers which you mostly do not need to touch (i need to admit they probbably require at least some manual configuration especially if you are using playlists for multiple disc games).
Otherwise its the same as always you still have the ability to configure each emulator manually they are standalone after all if you wish so you can set them up how ever you want, just dont click on update configurations obviously (which even warns you it will override manual config), thats it.
Of course it has the potential to fuck up things with updates too but well, emulators themselve do it as well, in example there is a reason why emudeck uses the windows version of cemu via proton, it just runs much better than the flatpack/appimage version does (i forgot which one cemu is distributed), would you really ever have guessed that by manual configuration? Probbably not.
I was thinking of going the standalone route and your simple guide has made up my mind. Thank you for the guide and I look forward to more great videos
Yeah i think straight to the standalone emaultor is a long run we should go. no more third party apps are running on top of the emulators.
me too. the yuzu and citra were gone in emudeck was so horrible
I cannot thank you enough for making this awesome guide. I hope you can make more like this for other systems.
Heavenly Sword! What a throwback, my dad and I loved that game
ah yes a Ninja Theory fan
You are AWESOME, thank you! The current version of RPCS3 has a regression in it that breaks some of the games I want to play. I'm able to use your solution to use an older RPCS3 appimage and finally able to play my games.
No problem man enjoy !
@@ED4T I wonder if using an older appimage would be the solution to the controls problem I am having.
You are my personal hero!!
Thanks for the tutorial. May have to do this. Want to replay Odin Sphere on the go.

thank you buddy
i have been looking for a video just like this very thorough please do the others!
More to come!
nice guide raven!
Thank you buddy, I dont use steam os but this works perfect on my steam deck now. before it was laggy as f, now its algoods thanks to your content.
Great bro. This is what I wanted. Hope you have a similar video for Nintendo switch as well
That's the plan!
😮 yes plz
Very informative
Was thinking of emulating some PS3 games and really didnt wanna deal with EMU deck, you sir are my hero right now!
thank you man.
Why you don’t want to deal with EMU DECK ?
Just subbed, looking forward to a Gamecube & PS1 vid in the future.
To my experience GC and PS1 games run flawlessly on Emudeck with Bios to save you trouble/time on stand alone emulators.
@@djganty8830Thanks. PS1 does work really well. GC not so much for me.
I'm still working out the configuration for some of the controls PS3 and Nintendo games but apart from that I don't see why anyone wouldn't use emu deck?@@djganty8830
I love this channel ❤️ thank you ED4T!!
Glad you enjoy it! thank you
I don’t even have my steam deck yet and I already subscribed! Thank you for this video!
Thanks you, appreciated!
I just got emudeck 2.2.17 and have no issues, I don't use emustation or Pegasus either, just the steam OS and it works great.
Very Nice, you just earn a subscriber. Thank you.👍
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you!
Welcome!
Agree, Emudeck is messed up now on my Steamdeck since latest updates.. just use standalones, awesome vid though..
I haven't updated emudeck in quite a while I don't have the need to open it anymore
EmuDeck made my Steam Deck sluggish, yeah. I had to factory reset to reassert functionality.
i have heard of hundreds of ppl said they have to factory rest steam deck due to failure of the EmuDeck updates. This is terrible.
@@ED4T I tried to play Turok (2008) through EmuDeck's installation of RCPS3 but it wouldn't launch. I can't for the life of me figure out why because X-Men Origins: Wolverine ran very well by comparison. I own the game on my PS3, but I wanted to run it on my Steam Deck.
Emudeck was always trash and bloated. Not to mention the developers constantly updating and breaking it.
Ed for President 😎 I'll probably download everything standalone in future, I prefer the more granular control I have over everything.
Yes
if EmuDeck remove pre-configuration for any emulators emulators will stop working right away and we have to fix the configuration files.
I think standalone makes everything is under our own controls. our steam deck and we make the decision lol .
If this makes the games run better I'm all for it. Gonna do this to my steam deck. Thanks
it doesnt
@@rabidrivasoh so the game will run the same just like in emudeck emulator?
Yes emudeck uses virtually no power @@truthtruth9056
@@truthtruth9056The emulator emudeck installs and the one you install will be the same. Emudeck only installs them all automatically, and organizes your folders. If you disagree with how emudeck does the emulator settings you can change them. If you install the emulator manually the default settings will not be optimal for deck.
spoiler it wont xD
Thanks ! 👍
Welcome!
Wow this is great! I want to see this for Game Cube and 3DS next 🎉😊
will coming soon. stay tuned!
omg the all white SD is something,
sure save to my hack list, n will try it on my SD. ps3 on the go haha
im with you emudeck is worse every update now! Thx again M8!
Yeah. Man I hate their nonsense updates. I am afraid they will add more ads stuff into it too in the future.
Dude that white steam deck is cleaaaannn! How did you do that? It doesn’t even look like a skin. Looks like an official Steam product. Did you take the whole thing apart and paint or something?
I'm moving to Vietnam and am so glad I can play my PS3 games with out dragging my PS3 across the world!
For me, the best setup currently is ES-DE + standalone emulators. I've made some box covers for games by myself, and everything looks and feels great. I'm using it on my PC, but Linux (SteamOS) should also work.
Good stuff for sure. ES-DS + standalone emulators is golden combination. I plan to make ES-DS guide after couple standalone emualtor videos. I think ES-DS + Standalone emulator just beats EmuDeck and it gives you solid & stable emulation experience.
Thanks for the great guide as always Ed. Are there any hot keys for RPCS3 at all for the Deck?
One of my games (NBA Jam - On Fire Edition runs super sped up and I am not sure how to correct this.
np, dude. thank you. you can go to rpcs3 emualtor from desktop and set the hotkeys inside the Emulator. also there is speed you can just from custom gaming setting by select the game then change game custom settings. hope this helps you.
Lutris is by far the easiest way to add emulator games to your steam library but for some reason the ones that play through retroarch don't recognize controls in gamepad mode only in mouse and keyboard mode.
Thank you so much for this video very informative and explained. I was hoping to emulate GTA 5, have you tried and had issues with this game yet my friend?
thank you, I have never tested GTA 5 on RPCS3 since its on steam pc game.
@@ED4T ahh yes valid point friend. What about metal gear solid 4, would you check that out one day?
You can build all precompiled shaders (3rd option) 6:45 when you add a game or multiple, it will save you from having to do this when you launch a game 9:10 and 12:38
haven't had a problem with emudeck and I have all of my games launching from steam in game mode fine, got switch, ps2,ps3,xbox,gamecube,wii u
I haven't used emudeck since i put windows on my steam deck. Now i have the tech toy tinkerers emulation station setup and it works great.
You put windows on steam deck you crazy why would you do that most reason I passed on handhelds they have windows so far I don’t handheld but I’m going for steam deck more and more new handhelds are out and reviews are let down
Through emu deck I’ve never been able to get skate 3 to run that well
Yeah that one is demanding even on some decent pcs.
Note: if the HDD0 folder is missing.
you can manually create hdd0 folder.
go to rpcs3 emulator manage virtual files system - select dev_hdd0 tab then click + icon navigate to your PS3 Emulation folder - click choose. the hdd0 folder will be created for you.
I just got a steam deck and i installed emudeck. Its great but i got to admit I'm not a huge fan of how it connects to the internet and runs scripts to set things up and keeps stuff updated. I'm sure its really not a big deal, but I just like the idea of the emulators being self contained
White steam deck is oled or lcd looks more beautiful than the orgianl now
Best step by step videos! I used your videos for installing the EmuDeck version a year ago. I am getting so many errors recently after their updates. But one more question, should I uninstall RPCS3 from Emudeck? Will it cause errors/issues having both at the same time? Thanks a lot for your tutorials!
no problem. happy to help. you don't have to uninstall RPCS3 from EmuDeck. you can keep it. just remember to copy your save files to standalone i showed in this video.
there is no conflict between standalone & emudeck one. they are running individually because they are stored in different folder path. thank you.
@@ED4T I tried to install it today, but I am facing problems. First of all the RPCS3 was recognised as a stand alone emulator probably,so I uninstalled it through EmuDeck. I went all your steps through and when I am choosing the folder you/me created on SD card I am getting the error "Fatal Error.Segfault reading location. Thread: Main Thread. Emulation stopped ". What did I do wrong? Thanks in advance! I have no computer path, but I found the folders, still getting error message.
@filippnurijew4489 maybe try to create the folders on your internal ssd see if you still have the same errors. Sounds like you have issue to access sd card from rpcs3.
@@ED4T Going to try to do so, but is there a specific path for internal SSD or it doesn't matter?
@filippnurijew4489 no specific path required. You can just put inside your downloads or documents folder that will be fine.
Thank you !!! Emu deck was way too confusing 🫤 this is actually way better and a way better explanation given than anyone that tried to explain that horrible emu deck set up . This is gold thank you 🙏🏽
You’re welcome 😊
Great step by step tutorial. Love your videos. I’m having some issues with getting my controller to work properly, if I select Steam Virtual Gamepad 1 under SDL, the Steam deck controller does not work in game. I have another selection under SDL named Steam Deck 1. If I select it, it works in game but then I get random on screen keyboard openings. I’m not sure what is going on. Any ideas?
Thank you. I believe you have some controller layouts is on under the gaming mode. You can try to put to virtual gamepad 1 under SDL and then start a game from gaming mode press steam button and put the controller layout into joystick mode.
@@ED4T if I set it to SDL Virtual Gamepad 1 in the emulator and then launch the game from the Steam Deck’s Gaming Mode, I get a prompt telling me that “Wireless controller has been disconnected. Please reconnect the controller and press Start to continue “. The game is Dante’s Inferno but that shouldn’t matter.
you can fix the controller this way. the new RPCS3 updates on Mar 27th somehow messed up the steam deck gaming mode.
but we can fix this easily
go to steam deck desktop mode - open standalone RPCS3 appimage - configuration - Pads - Under Play1 - change Handlers to Evdev then under devices it should show Microsoft -Xbox 360 Pad 0 - click save. that's all
Now, the controller will work in both desktop mode & gaming mode.

HELP
This guide is absolutely fantastic, I followed step by step. Game loads up, by none of the buttons seem to work at all, I went to pads and selection what you said. But I tried two games and none of the buttons worked at all. Any ideas? Thanks 😊
pls check the pinned comment. there is an update on the controller setup.
@@ED4T ah yes, that worked. You're a star, thank you.
I wish I could have my oled swapped all white like that
Do the Wii U next please 😊

I still want fight night to work on steam deck.
Wonder if you can make a tutorial for yuzu citra and dolphin (specifically for the wii) stand alone as well
will do .
I'm new to steamdeck like less than 24hrs. Now Yuzu is gone from emudeck. Not sure what works. If there is this new video it will be great 👍🏻
@@ED4T is there a guide somewhere to obtain bios files from a switch game that I own? No piracy, just ones I legally own.
@@providencez9496yuzu and citra are still available. Many people have linked the files on Reddit. And of course the way back machine is quite useful 😁. Then all you have to do is install the emulators and then drop them in the emulators folder for emu deck. Boom. You can now play switch and 3DS games again. I do. They work great 😎.
Could you also possibly please make a tutorial for extracting already existing emulators on Emudeck and making standalone? Reason: Yuzu :(
Yuzu is in the Applications folder, on your home folder on Desktop mode. It's named yuzu.AppImage.
Easy. Go into dolphin file manager. Home/deck/applications all your app images should be there including yuzu.
you dont have to extract them. there are files on internet always.
I get the point you're tryna get to, however EmuDeck just clears all the clutter and packages PS3, PS2, XBOX and more emulators into one.
I personally like "Batocera" on a separate SD card.
yeah thats good too. will make a dedicated video for Batocera soon.
Do all ps3 games work ok using this method? I tried to get motorstorm to work but there is big time lag
When I load the game from steam OS, the controls won’t work, but when I play in desktop mode the controls work, but when I press “B” it interacts as if I’m minimizing the game.
Check pinned comment pls.
I use Retrodeck, it's easy and runs fine.
not a lot ppl use retrodeck. maybe worth to try
@@ED4T its simple, you have more custumization with emudeck but for a simple opcion retro deck
This new emu deck update has made everything confusing, half the stuff has seemed to disappeared
Is it still ok to do PS2 via Emudeck after the update, or should I go the standalone route for PS2 as well?
I mean it's all up to you. EmuDeck most of time has no issues. but some time the update just mess up the whole thing, the worst thing is you cannot deny the updates, it will force you update once you open up emudeck. The standalone emulator is more stable and everything is in your own control.
agree on the new emudeck updates , total garbage now, spent hours fixing steam rom manager , imagine making a tool to ease up emulators install only for it to become so trash that it's easier to setup all manually, sheesh.
good tutorial but i have a problem, when you show the new folders that were added in the PS3 Emulation folder, on my screen i am missing the games folder and dev_hdd0 folder.
You can try redo the file patch step. Or you can manually create hdd0 folder from the virtual file manager tab.
I am refusing to update Emudeck stuff, since it already works great AND it still has Yuzu stuff on it in case I need it
Updating doesn't remove your installed Yuzu, it just gets rid of the option of installing it for people that didn't already have it.
when my steam deck arrive i want to play Splatterhouse & Rambo The Video game on Steam Deck..but performance was so bad on Emudeck before this..i give up..i don't know if this standalone PS3 apps can perform that 2 game at least 30fps 😢
you definitely can try it out.
What's the games like as I know not every game will work. Need a good powerful pc for that
We also need a native way to install 3 more emulators starting with NW, NS, N3 "ahem ahem". I know its very risky but is there any guide I can follow? Looking forward to remove EmuDeck from my system. I still have my old Y installed. Have not updated the EmuDeck after the incidence.
Hey man, I’ve been following your videos to try and get skate 3 working on my steam deck using the ps3 emulator. I followed your instructions on how to patch my iso file and download it on to my steam deck. I also put it on rpcs3 exactly the way you did. Everything seems right, but when I run the game, it loads for a second then eventually says “The ps3 emulator has likely crashed, you can close it”.
Any ideas on how to fix this. Thanks!
I actually just got it to run without crashing. Now I’m having an issue getting past the screen where I need to press x. I followed your controller configuration setting but still isn’t working
It seems to be freezing on and I can’t use touch screen anymore on the black screen that says “skate 3 will install game data to the HDD. If the game data does not install correctly you will be prompted to install again. Do not switch off the system while the HDD access indicator is flashing.”
Did you check the pinned comment? There is update with controller setup
Install game is normal it will take about 5 mins to install to hdd. This is good
Yeah... I'm not a fan of the new EmuDeck update they REALLY messed things up. :\
big mess from them. couple hotfixes but still a big mess.
Done all this but steam deck controller not working in desktop mode, pressing X brings up the on screen keyboard? What's up with this?
Before I would just launch a gamecube game in gaming mode and it would launch, but NOW when I launch a gamecube game it goes to the dolphin menu and I have to select the game though the dolphin menu. It never did that until now.... Any tips?
Same with my rpcs3 games like wtf did emudeck do
they messed up the configuration files. just use standalone . i will do a video will gamecue standalone soon.
I have everything installed all my files and firmware are correctly installed as well but when I put the roms in the roms folder i open the emulator up and nothing shows on my deck. The emulator starts up fine.
you have the wrong format games. check out my game rom video pls.
@@ED4T Ok thanks
I suppose that if they are no game patch it's because the game do not have one
Ps2 next?
I was extremely frustrated after the last major emudeck update however ..
What it did do was force me to manually go and sort out yuzu so now i know i will always have yuzu available to me
But to give credit to the emudeck team, the last update has fixed quite a few things within emulator updates and controller setups as well as add more emulators like model 2 and 3
Yes,agreed that when the update came out neither model 2 or 3 even worked and steam rom manager was broken but its all fixed now and actually yuzu is re enabled but you still need to supply the yuzu appimage which isnt too difficult to find
Now on topic of standalone emulators ...
You do realise that emudeck DOES install all of these emulators as a stand alone application
And within steam rom manager, you can scrape them as an entire folder onto your steam deck library and then run the emulators directly, and at least most if not all legwork is done for you,you dont actually need to run emulation station unless you want to
And as far is losing these emulators go,well just go into the installed directory for emudeck and copy them all to your sd card
I simply wish there was a more safe and secure way of actually updating emudeck, currently it seems far too easy to just click or touch the screen when running the app in decktop mode and accidentally updating, you get very little warning, the english prompts and instructions often dont make much sense either
For instance,i knew a major update came out,i ran emudeck because i wanted to add games and use steam rom manager,by the time i launched emudeck,i hit the update button that appeared by mistake
They need to add an option to turn off updates entirely so you can wait for issues to be ironed out,you simply dont get much of a warning,i also think the last big update felt like a temptation for many with the lure of new emulators not realising yuzu would be disabled
For me,it updated and broke soo many things that i was forced to reinstall everything and that is where i lost yuzu so its no wonder than some of us are a bit pissed off, emudeck may make things easier for us but alot of hard work still goes into setting up games and artwork, controller set ups and game saves only to lose it all with an update
This is not to say that i dont appreciate emudeck,i value it highly and i think the folks behind it are brillian
Thanks for the comment. I agree with you. the current way of emudeck updating just don't make any sense. User should have the option to choose update or not. The EmuDeck will just update right away when you accidentally open it up. I have no idea why the Emu team do this way, it feels they have controls for everything you want or you dont want. I hope they can get rid of the current way of updating and make it a truly user friendly app for gamers to use. so we can decided to update or not by ourselves.
Did you try twisted metal for ps3? how does it run now?
Yes dude I tested that it’s still not running well. Average 10to 15fps
Can make video for cemu please ? For some reason I cannot find the shader cache folder and all my cemu games are running horribly
yes will do soon. stay tuned !

Can u pls help me, my game shows up in steam rom manager but doesnt show up in the emulator folder i have to search and add it on the mainscreen . It was working before the update
sorry I am not sure what are you talking about. are you using EmuDeck or standalone RPCS3? there is no steam rom manager for standalone emulator only steam library. also, do you mean game wont show up in the emulator game list interface?
@@ED4T for steam rom manager.
So for example I would add my games to the folder , for example (gbc) I go to steam rom manger load the art save it. When i go back to steam menue the game doesnt show up in (gbc) i have to type the name in and then add it to the collection. It was working perfect before the update. Its all my games having this issue.
Why can't you just use rpcs3 from downloading emudeck?
