Cheers Jim, quality review. I see what you mean about the select/start buttons, not optimal placement. While nothing is perfect, it's still impressive how much AYN nailed for a first device. I debated which model to get. Went Pro hoping the chipset, extra RAM and storage give the most options and longevity. The Lite could well be the sweet spot on price/performance though.

I love it! Just got my purple base, it feels sooo good! My only big gripe is not realizing it doesn't come with lights, there was no documentation aside of photos to show it has no lights. I have the options to turn it on in the menu's but I have no lights lol, wish they'd push an update for transparent Odin's to remove it, it's annoying to see an option I cannot use. Also I believe I got the updated switch, I'm order 833 so well before the 1200 mark for the new switch, but I got the purple and that was being assembled as they announced the new switch. I believe we all have a 6600mah battery now, we got a boost from the 6000mah battery. I installed Nova launcher and button remapper to remap the home button to a .5sec hold to bring down the quick panel and a quick tap to open the apps tab and if I double click it, it goes to the previous app. I wish we could use the M buttons on the back for macro's outside of their key mapper app and in retroarch. I also increased the dpi in dev options to make everything a bit smaller. I also wish we could have different cpu profiles based on which app is being run. I really REALLY want to root this thing, enable live wallpapers. I have the RG351V and this, and with game streaming, this is all I need! ^_^ Steam Deck, I can't imagine taking that on the bus with me, too darn big. Great review! Hey! Just a lil tip regarding audio: In most editing software there's usually an audio effect called "Deesser". This is gonna get rid of the sharp "S" sounds from the audio, allowing it to be better listened to at higher volumes. Keep up the great work!
@@JimRPG gotcha, sometimes it has to do with the microphone. As stupid as it sounds, putting a sock around my mic helped a lot lol. I really like your content man!
Deesser is made to decrease the sharpness of s-sounds. To compensate you probably want to increase the spectrum where the s resides. A common mixing tip is to use a few EQ's and brighten the sound a few dB at a time and then add deesser to tame the sibilance.
Hello, How long does it take for your odin to arrived? I heard months but not sure..im moving this july I wanna order it this month. Not sure if company can send it soon.
They said the second batch (if you buy one now) starts shipping 3/25, and finish shipping in a month, so you’re probably looking at the back of the queue there.
I have had an issue with my Odin L/R button. My R1 button came broken out of the factory. Most games you can remap which I did to the m2 back button which isn’t inconvenient at all. I did receive my upgrade kit which I put on with the new upgraded l2 r2 pieces. I have no gripes about the new parts they work well and AYN does great customer service I emailed them and they sent me the parts just that simple they remember your email source your invoice and deliver your parts no hassle no worries. I see great things coming from them in the future they are clearly trying to invest in the gaming/emulation space.
Hey - sorry to hear the R1 button came broken. When did you get your Odin? AYN said that most of the L1/R1 issues were in the initial batch of consoles. Also I didn't actually have that much luck with some of the emulators mapping the buttons behind the console, I think MMJR doesn't recognise them. I need to try other emulators. I'm glad you got it sorted.
Depends on your definition of frame rate drops. You get smaller drops on faster processors. On my sd870, the drops last like one or two seconds. But on my mediatek t618, drops are longer maybe 3-4 seconds. Also you can play 3x or 4x if u want to, it depends what’s bottlenecking the cpu or gpu.
Were the RAM usage figures for DC/GC/PS2 all at native resolution? I'm wondering if some of them might use more than the Base's 4GB RAM when setting the emulators to display at higher internal resolution, e.g. running DC games at 1440p.

I'd say it depends if you're getting a steam deck or not or whether that's not in consideration because its too far out for Aussies. Poco F3 is way more powerful but you'd be missing the upper tier of PS2 games like God of War 1 and 2. I need to do more testing on PS2 to see how it holds up first. @@yoghetty5636 Aya Neo bro
@@KAIZENURAMESHI lol neo is 1000. if you bear with linux, you get great performance at a much lower price. and besides the community for the deck will be huge, meaning user experience will improve even more as more people develop for the deck
Lol Jim flexing his Rtx3070 hah
Good point! Gotta stream more!
Yes the pro is getting too close to steam deck price
Yeah that’s why the lite at $200 might be the better deal but we’ll have to see what it can and can’t do
@@JimRPG lite is out now, do you think its worth it ? i have my doubts about the screen eating the battery. and 4gb was ok for playing streaming games for you ?
you could fit "the Greatest Of All Time" instead of the GOAT ...
If it could handle PS3 emulation I would call it goat
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, Flip 3, and Microsoft Surface Duo 2 are the GOATs for emulation. Just get a Bluetooth controller and all the emulators for them. Those phones are always with you. And Snap888 destroys 845.
what about input lag ?
i see there is android input lag - th-cam.com/video/eiAJKMkXYC0/w-d-xo.html.
what do you think ?
To anyone thinking about getting an odin or loki...dont!!! Ayn just screwed me over bad.. customer service is horrible and rude. Can't keep shipping dates because there only putting out 50 to zero a day. Take my advice and stay away from AYN!!!!
Saving money...to me it's losing money . Your only talking $47 more. For 8g of ram and twice the storage.. you can't even go out to dinner for $47..lol
