    PS2 was such a goated console that people are still having hard time emulating it 20 plus years later.

      PS2 is tricky but PS3 is going to be an absolute mutha to emulate on a handheld!

    Absolutely agree with you on the reviews focusing on retro gaming. Although I think it might be due to how it is more known to the retro handheld community than serious Android based gaming channels (if there are any at all); in fact I only knew that the retro gaming community is a thing only after finding out about Odin because I wanted a dedicated console to play Android-based games.

    • @ChronikSpartan
      @ChronikSpartan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's really interesting and a great point. I don't know of any Android based gaming channels. I think there's still a perception that all Android games are microtransaction and ad heavy, but it's not entirely the case. There are loads of amazing more traditional games on Android if you know what you're looking for. And with a console like the Odin, you really can get the most out of them.

    I was super hyped for this console and waiting 2 months for it felt like an eternity.
    I love it. I wouldn't say it beat my expectations, (mostly because I'd watched so many reviews I basically knew what to expect) but I can 100% say I wasn't the least bit disappointed. Being able to play most PS2 and Gamecube games (and even some Wii games) in handheld mode is a childhood dream for someone who grew up on the Game Boy Color.
    For me, this was a great buy and I have so far not regretted the money I put into it, and I think for the amount it cost I personally think you get the most out of the Odin compared to other retro handhelds. I wouldn't say it's perfect, but it's probably the best you can get so far for that price. It all comes down to what you want it for. If you want simple pocket-sized NES/SNES/PS1, you could probably go for something else. If you want something more high-end, I highly recommend the Odin.
    PS2 emulation is not perfect by any means, and some titles I want don't work at all. God of War, Asterix XXL, Kingdom Hearts 1, Whiplash and such can however already run at 60 FPS with the right settings, so once the app has been out for a while I'll be happy to see what it can do.
    I've had a blast playing Double Dash and Simpsons Hit & Run at 60FPS on Dolphin as well.

    • @ChronikSpartan
      @ChronikSpartan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perfectly said. It is an absolute beast and considering the competition right now, nothing comes close in terms of the power.
      It's even started making me rethink some of my physical PS2 and GC collection.
      It's amazing considering where retro handheld emulation was last and even more exciting is where it's heading!

      Take in mind that AetherSX2 is a kind of a "hobby" work that works amazing on recent firmwares and processors (The odin has a Snapdragon 845 for the "pro" model, the lite one has a dimensity 9000)
      The ayn odin is way old in the software side as i have the same SoC and RAM on an old phone and it runs way better than the odin, since the software is making a lot of conflicts with a bunch of settings and internal data. None of us were expecting aetherSX2 it was a simple, just because release, the emulator is in beta phase too, so i wouldn't be too harsh on that. The odin could very well handle it, but the old android version is the one to blame.

      @@MuhammadAli-xw4yc You kidding right? Go to the steam deck

    • @Soaches
      @Soaches 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MuhammadAli-xw4yc If you want retro emulation on a less bulky advice, go for the Odin. There is however no denying that the Steam Deck is more powerful in practically every way. The Odin can play up to most PS2 games and some Wii Games. The Deck can emulate Switch and PS3 and it can play basically any PC game. Everything the Odin can do, the Deck can do, and probably do it better.
      One is built as a retro emulation console and one as a high-end portable gaming PC. It all comes down to which you prefer. Tekken 7 and Street Fighter 5 won't even be able to run on the Odin.

    I have a Pixel 3 XL with the same processor, so I knew what I was getting into already. That's why I went with the Odin Lite. But it looks like it shouldn't have been called a Lite. Cell data, Wifi 6, BT 5.2, No need for a fan. longer battery life, looks to play some consoles better than the base/pro, but a little worse in others. I do concur that setting up all these consoles is getting a bit annoying. This will be my first dedicated Android-based retro console, so it should be a new experience for me. I'm excited to see what the next couple of months will look like when more reviews for the Lite trickle out. Cheers mate.

      Yup that's what I been saying the D900 can be significantly better if it was prioritized to overclock. The 845 excuse is only for it's windows support. Anyone that's capable of reading GFLOPS and understanding the architecture difference can compute this. It's not even that hard. All that driver support blubber means nothing given that Devs and the community have find their way around since 2020, and progressing very quickly I must add

    Honestly it is a good gift for a kid or friend who doesn't know that much about emulation because it's a great chance for them to learn. It's not that hard and if they can't be bothered to watch a youtube video to complete it if need be. Then they never wanted to play it in the first place so it was never a good gift. Or if they're really inept or young just set it up for them? I mean it is a 300$+ gift after all.

I’d love an option to reduce the refresh rate of the phone to 60 as it’s slightly off and can only be remedied though retroarch. A added 30fps option would be even better to smooth some things out on more demanding games.
